I was off for a almost a year, and part of that was when the skill tree got changed to a weird skill tree that resembles a Final Fantasy game. I had not kept up with what was meta or close to it. The PUG were horrible and very unforgiving. I haven't played in a few months because it feels like I must buy all the mechs, that I failed to purchase in the last year and study all the mech builds before I could compete in regular matches. I have spent well over $800 into this game already and it seems to never end with the mech pack money grabs, that seems to further dilute the game. Years ago you could see the readout of the type of mech and pretty much figure out what it may be carrying and if the load out. If it slightly off you could figure out where they had changed the config at(i.e. had no heat sinks or lower armor). After being out for 7 months I couldn't jump back in like I had been playing. Hell even CS:GO seemed more evenly matched and less salty players back in summer of 2017.
I have met many cool players through this game and enjoyed my time playing it when I threw 5 hours + in a day. But this game requires too much time, money, and tweaking. It's not at all fun at the level that I play at.

Hey it could be worse, it could've been changed to FF10s node system... good luck figuring out that sh*t if we had an MWO version haha.

Another satisfied customer. Hope they keep listening to the same people they have always listened and nothing changes.

I am sorry for my grammar, but I am so drunk. I'd almost rather be dropped from the tier one to tier 5 or less after so long. I tried to run the HBR 4 ML gauss ECM, but that was so out dated in AUG of 2017. Also that the skill tree is crap... especial if you want to change you build once you realize how you want to change the mech.

HEY! I spent $500 and got a "The Devoted" banner!

Maybe don't try using the skill tree when drunk, then. And actually, you know, be patient before you complain about it.

I'm complaining while drunk. I have tried to tweak the mechs I had while stone sober and reading different sites on load outs. Now let's say i spend 3 -5 minutes changing all my mechs to the new tree. that would take 360 - 600 minutes. Realistically I would try a little at once and then tweak the other variants based on their builds and how it performed to my play style.

Disagree on the money part. You can play the game without spending a single dime and still do really good in QP. Especially since the buy three to elite 1 rule is gone.

No one forces you to do all of them at once, and I bet you only main a couple dozen at most. Most importantly, once you get used to it, you can select 91 nodes for a mech in less than a minute. It is not complicated once you know what kinda mech you wanna pilot.

Gauss Vomit Hellbringer still works (5 cERML instead of 4), just not as strong as it used to be.

Let's say you have $60. You can buy one game. You dump it into MWO. What is the best that you can get and does it make you have the same competitive edge against someone that has 3yrs into this game?
let's say you take that same $60 and put it into CS:GO or Overwatch. What's the difference?
I used to preoreder mech packs. How often would they get nerfed right before purchase for cbills? Granted only half of the packs would be good back then and players would figure out an optimum build that would work in a way PGI didn't foresee.

$60 into CSGO or Overwatch is a waste, it's just all cosmetics. In MWO it's sort of the same thing with cosmetics, but mechs at least offer something a little bit different. Overall, you're probably better off with a new game, especially since the mechs only offer a slightly new experience-- even though you're still playing the same exact thing you have been before getting that mech. A new mech doesn't exactly offer a fresh experience like a brand new game does.

Which is why instead of MAYBE considering packs to play later, i went and got Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet (Deluxe Pre-Order). No regrets! Can't nerf my Tiamat PGI!

No need to dump $60, or any real money. Just purchase Mad Cat MKII variants using C-Bills, and already you have one of the best mechs around. As for the rest, players just have to git gud.

MWO is actually very forgiving compared to Overwatch or CS:GO.

At which point all of your friends call you an idiot for dumping $60 into a F2P game when you could have bought a regular game and still played the F2P.

There are people that have played this game non-stop since closed beta that aren't as good as I am, and people that picked it up last year that are better than I will ever be. Sure, you can dump $35 into the game for a Mad Cat II pack with DeathStrike Hero and run the current Clan-side assault metamech. But the expression in MtG was that a tier 1 deck with an incompetent pilot is an easy match win. It holds true in MWO as well. You can have the best mech in the game, but if you don't know what you're doing a good player will rip you six ways from Sunday while running an objectively worse mech.

Well, for me the difference would be a lack of satisfaction. I'm not interested in either of those games. (I'd love to see a sci-fi RPG in the same setting as Overwatch, though.)

Umm, yeah, there's only so much predicting game devs can do. MtG game designers while in a rush have a few times tweaked what they thought was a mediocre card into part of a powerhouse combo. 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons, despite being the most thoroughly playtested table top RPG ever released when it hit the market, still had overpowered and/or abusive content (E.g., 3e Haste, or the Whirl-Cleave combo).

And the fact that some things were too strong, and others weren't, well, what did you expect? Perfection? Because keep looking, let me know when you find it.

This game requires zero money, whatever time you want to goof around playing and the learning part, well, just ask for a build if its troubling you. I can't believe you are saying you have already spent 800 dollars and barely played this for a long time and now feel obligated to buy more just to play. You must have a metric asston of mechs, just pick one and learn it and play and have fun.

Yeah, they sell mech packs and that's how they make money. I never understand people that feel required to buy them. People can list 40 good to great mechs that are cbill only and Im sure someone would even tell you decent builds to go with them.

Hey El, and very boring...... Same stuff, over and over and over with the same 13 people in QP during the day on the same maps, doing the same crap..............(sigh.....and, I'm not at all drunk.) FREE? ok, it's f2p and that's about it......

get GuD? Seriously? With the hit box issues, the preciaion issues, the parralax issues with fram rate progression errors, get GuD how? I've seen ERPPC's miss open standing targerts, 12 in a row and they weren't actual misses: just frame errors at extreme ranges... nerf's out the butt to extend TTK for Solaris. FP and NO ONE IS THERE...... ghost drops....

Look, I appreciate all of the advice and assistance but, you can't gloss over the absolute incompetence of the game's ability to be first rate and world class.....

OP, it's just the way it is till Solaris; and, either it will be a whopping success with 1242 players who want to fight 1x1/2x2 (with the other 29,000 leaving or watching) or just implode.
