Sunder, Raptor, Templar and Avatar would all be prefectly playable in MWO. thing people tend to forget about IS Omnis is while a lot of them do have permanent XLs, they're also usually incredibly well armored, armed, and/or fast for their weight classes as well.

For instance, the Templar has forty tons of pod space for weaponry, and sixteen and a half tons of armor stock. compare that to an Atlas, with about 44-46-ish tons of podspace, and two and a half tons more armor, while weighing FIFTEEN TONS MORE and going 11kph slower.

This all sounds swell until you realize this is the same speed, armor, and 'pod space' stats an XL 340 Endo Battlemaster would be rocking, and 'Night Gyr fast' with 'Battlemaster armor' does not really sound like a safe combination to house an XL in. Judging from the Templar's pics in both TT and MW4, its STs look deliciously large to boot. Well, unless you're purely hanging back and sniping with it, and then your team yells at you for not sharing armor.

On top of that, XL checking is a thing for IS Battlemechs. Saw an XL Annihilator get caught out by that the other day, and that's as much tank as you can currently have. With Omnis, you wouldn't even need to check; anyone who knows the mech is going to drill a side off as soon as it comes into range. The Sunder and Avatar aren't in much better shape (and they all move at the same speed), and the Raptor is a light mech anyway.

They announced it but as soon as they knew they could have the Locust instead, they decided to put it off completely until all the other MW4 mechs could start being added to the game so it would fit in a themed wave of IS releases?
They didn't know best how to handle it with MASC until now, and they didn't like the community's suggestions at all?
Given the release of the Piranha, they wanted to give the IS a light mech that had more than 4 ballistic hardpoints?
They were pressured by HBS to make it for their game, so it's a collaborative release?
They wanted to show Gas Guzzler's poll the finger, so they epicly did a classic 180?
They're scraping the bottom of the barrel before adding anything the community would deem good?
All the above?

Just spitballing some thoughts that came to mind.

Yeah, they do kind of look like a male and female version of the same Mechs. You just need to make the Locust blue and the Flea pink so it will be more obvious.

Na, still works. The Flea is male. Posted Image

Surprisingly large number of animals, especially insects, have larger females than males. Posted Image

Or maybe a Locust IIC...

Please don't make me drool... The design of the Locust IIC was my favorite of the TT days... While functionally it's very much like the Piranha in MWO, I still want that mech here... >_> >_> I may throw wads of cash at PGI for it... Well more wads of cash...

5 and a half years since it was first released as a mech for the game in 2012. Then the masc issue with breaking the game due to it's raw speed.

the part where your arguement falls through with using the Battlemaster is the amount of weapon hardpoints. also, you do realize it usually takes either a 100-ton assault, or an entire lance to "XL-check" an assault mech from the front. add to that the Templar could be highly quirked for Structure and anti-crit.

You don't pronounce something D.O.A. before it's even out. historically has always shot whoever claimed it in the ***. there's plenty of Clan Mechs with Weak STs that still get used. a lot.

and frankly, 90% of the time, they're either going to go for your front CT, or rear CT first, as regardless of mech, that always gets the kill confirmed. it should also be noted that the Templar actually looks a LOT like most of the other IS assault in its specific bracket, which would actually prevent it dying to XL-hits at long range to all bu the most sharp-eyed players. plus... fact is.. if you're focusing firepower to make sure it goes down, that's firepower you're not focusing on its teammates, which means it's actually doing its job.

Or two Hellbringers. Or one Hellbringer with a coolshot. Or a particularly hungry Piranha. Or if you're out in the open for more than 5 seconds.

add to that the Templar could be highly quirked for Structure and anti-crit.

"It could be as quirked as the biggest and slowest target in the game! Which people have complained about!"

I really wouldn't hold my breath.

...because you have to shoot out both STs? Historically, nothing in the game has had locked IS XLs, either.

Quote

and frankly, 90% of the time, they're either going to go for your front CT, or rear CT first, as regardless of mech, that always gets the kill confirmed

That has been anything but my experience, unless everyone in the entire game is a particularly lousy shot. Setting aside mechs where legs are the top priority, XL checking still happens because

1. STs have much less armor than the CT,
2. STs are often way easier to hit, especially from the sides, and
3. even if they don't have an XL you've likely blown off half or more of their arsenal and thoroughly neutered them, plus a nasty speed hit for LFEs/cXLs.

Quote

. it should also be noted that the Templar actually looks a LOT like most of the other IS assault in its specific bracket, which would actually prevent it dying to XL-hits at long range to all bu the most sharp-eyed players.

That rounded head and those monster side torsos look fairly distinctive to me, and close in the paper doll will tell the enemy exactly what you are. And at range or if they're not sure? You're still most likely getting XL checked unless someone's already opened up your CT.

I mean seriously. Look at those side torsos!
Posted Image
Those things have their own postal codes. I wouldn't take those anywhere near an XL even with Anni-level armor and quirks. I can guarantee you that, if those make it into the game and they show up on the enemy side, I'll be telling every team I drop with against one exactly where to shoot. It's not like they can miss.

Quote

plus... fact is.. if you're focusing firepower to make sure it goes down, that's firepower you're not focusing on its teammates, which means it's actually doing its job.

And that job is done way better by a mech that doesn't die when something sneezes on a single ST. You know, something that can spread damage or use a dead side as a shield. Something that's not the Templar.

You know... I'm kinda sad. I went looking into the Flea, and while there's a retconned "Flea 4" from either 2001 or 2003.. the Flea 14 actually states it is the very first Flea, as Troopers went up to 10 and 4 redesigns were attempted of which only the Flea 14 given a production run of 5,000 (the other 3 remained as undescribed prototype failures). The Flea 14 was 15 tons and while the overall details aren't important (you can however find them on my signature on what is currently the last page, including Diagrams of how the jump system worked and the entire layout of the mech including hatches, etc.)..... the important thing was it got its name because it could jump amazing distances (technically it broke the rules, it could jump 8 hexes with 4 jumpjets).... thus.. it was called the "Flea."

(Exact jump distances were also calculated and given.)

....Sadly no jumpjet Fleas. I know they drop the jumpjets when going to Flea 15 and onward, but c'mon... Its why it has the name!

After calming myself down a bit after the overjoyous moment once I saw the Flea s pre-order on the front page. I will continue to support other pilots mech wishes especially Lights! I got all of mine. Got both the Cougar and the Flea and those werent IMO the most popular, but they just appeared. ( Ok maybe they have been in top 10 priorites at PGI, I dont know.)
Mostly because of the timeline, kinda. Not just about the voting and discussions about them. I think I saw alot more about the Wasp, Fire Moth and Owens.

I voted for the Fire Moth / Dasher so I hope that fella appears too. Clan need their 20 t pure Omnimech.

i still will campaign and fight for other mech wishes I have.
Namely any mech that the Rasalhague have produced or at least was common among them besides the Kurita/ Steiner mechs they shared.

Viking, Thug, Venom, Beowulf, Valkyrie ( the name, norse divine girls bringing fallen warriors to Valhalla!)

Others I want are the Vulture Mk II.
Yes it is almost exactly like the one we have now, EXCEPT, as with the new Mad Dog hero with CT hardpoints.
We could have a new line-up of MDD / Vulture Mk II with ALL of them being Omnis, having all CT hardpoints at the cost of less arm moutned hardpoints for balance sake. Also the arms should look like the one shown in Mech warrior 4. The arms looks like the Mad Cat Mk II arms. Not looking as slender but like more solid shield arms.

Wouldnt mind IS omnis either like the Raptor, Hauptman etc.

Again. Thanks PGI for adding the Flea, finally! Posted Image

Mixed feelings about this mech.

None of the variants have any jumping capability. Not that any MWO mechs does since JJ in MWO are weak sauce like HoverJets, but still no JJ on something titled after an insect that 99% of people when they hear the word flea would foremost associate it with that of jumping.

IS however finally has access to MG spew, albeit not as lethal as the 25% heavier MLX. I just hope the quirks don't suck. & if for some reason PGI did give good quirks that they don't debuff them once the mech moves on to its MC/C-bill releases.

Plus once again. This mech not doing this is fail.

If you wanna read about jumping Flea mechs...
There's a tidbit on them here.
Skip to the line "But returning to other stuff..." for the Flea 14. Prior to the retcon in 2000-something, Flea 14 was the one of four Trooper redesigns to replace the flop that was the Trooper 10. Trooper 14 came to be called the Flea, for its speed and jumping ability. The name sticks with the chassis ever since, though the first Flea to be considered 'good' is the Flea 15...after they neutered out the jumpjets and brought it back to 20 tons.

(I say retcon in 2000+, as somewhere between 2k1 and 2k3 it was changed for a "Flea 4"... However in 1987 the Flea 14 is written as the first Flea with quite a story to it, including the Flea 14 hero mech "Hound Doggie" whose trait was "Jump gliding".)

(Sadly Alvira MacNeil has been dead since the end of the second Succession War.. She died trying to complete a bet, making it to 2133.6 meters up an impressive mountain in this less-than-5-meters-tall Flea 14, with jump heights of 54 meters. From there it fell and tumbled all the way down. So no Hound Doggie in our age.)

That original mech model that someone made, and I think was hired into PGI because of it... any chance any of its assets are being utilized in this one? Can someone find that model art?

Didn't see an answer to this... Mark Nicholson did a Flea years back based on the concept art.

Did spiders not get quite sizable armor bonuses just recently? Or is that not love enough? Firepower is not everything...
