Did spiders not get quite sizable armor bonuses just recently? Or is that not love enough? Firepower is not everything...

Firepower may be not everything, but its damn important in a game where much of the rewards and your combat efficiency is calculated by the damage you did. what good are armor buffs if you have no firepower to shoot back?
you are just feeding damage points to the opposing team and crippling your own when choosing a spider over much more viable options, which is a damn shame because i used to like them very much - my first mech in fact.

try it yourself: what is easier to get huge damage numbers and kills with: a spider or a much more armed locust with 4-6ml?

Not sure what you want to accomplish though. If you are looking for manouverability, durability and JJ capacity, you look at the Spider. If you are looking for raw firepower, you look at other 30t 'mechs.

Spiders can be really dangerous if piloted right. Saying that they have no firepower to shoot back is simply incorrect. Sure, they could perhaps do with a little love in the offensive department, but how much is not too much, if they still retain other advantages over the other chassis? Or should we just have all the 'mechs with 6 energy hardpoints? What makes them different at that point?

Damage numbers do not equal number of kills and all that does not equal how useful you actually are for your team. It is quite possible to score solo kills with an average of around 100 damage per kill - all depends on how efficient you can be, perhaps with the use of superior positioning and speed.

I certainly do not believe that picking a Spider puts your team at a disadvantage, if you use proper builds and tactics. Unless you are piloting something with a Gauss, or other troll builds, that is...

Na, still works. The Flea is male. Posted Image

Surprisingly large number of animals, especially insects, have larger females than males. Posted Image

Lol Posted Image

I say they are cousins. Cheap on the drinks, quick in.. on the tracks Posted Image

@ Yeah, I guess so. I dont actually worry too much about the Flea getting massive. They are similar and should hopefully reflect that in PGI volumetric scaling thingy.

the spider is a bit of a on-off love for me: sometimes i suck with it, sometimes im one of the top scorers and carried the whole match, just to totally suck again the next day.

but on IS side, locusts are better armed than many of the up-to-30-tonners. Javelin seems to be quite good, but i prefer lasers to srm tbh, and the rest of the light mechs on IS side lacks firepower. i do best with a 5-6ml locust on IS side.

Thanks for making me pick up my ECM/Stealth armor Spider again. 3 medium pulse lasers, XL225. It's a fun mech to drive, even if I rarely crack 300 damage.
It took me a long time and a lot of salt to find the 3mpl build that actually works.

Engine rating at 170.... just 5 more and we arent hindered by Heatsinks dammit!

8 ballistics
7 Energy

Ofcourse clans get the better hardpoints as usual

Might preorder this

As far as I can tell the Flea will do XL190 speeds (with MASC) and have the same net weight (XL170 is 2 tons lighter 1 ton for a heat sink and 1 ton for MASC.)

Not every Flea variant can have MASC though. AND those extra 3 crits needed for the extra DHS outside the engine are quite in the way when trying to use the hardpoints. For the MASC variants, it's even 4 less crit slots.

Still debating with myself whether to buy this or not. Thanatos left a sore spot last year. Having that 175 rated engine option could help.

Think your prob is you have no idea how to pilot a Thanny properly. they're not meant as brawlers or snipers. it's a midrange skirmishing heavy. usually does best with AC/10s, Snubs, ER meds, etc. the hitboxes kinda screw it for bralwing, and the hardpoint layout isn't really great for sniping either, so that kinda limits its role to mid-range skirmish/direct fire support. that said, it excels at mid-range, and the fact most Thanatos have ECM helps there a lot too (given you don't get close enough that people can lock anyways because you don't brawl). it's actually a pretty damn solid heavy if you actually take the time to learn to play it properly. every 75 tonner to date is. some are just harder to learn to pilot than others.

it's just another of those mechs people try to make fit their playstyle, when, in reality, you have to change your playstyle to fit the mech.

Well, could be true. That it had structure quirks instead of armor ones when I leveled the 3 sure didn't help. I didn't really experiment with their loadout much. With the basic package I couldn't replicate that ghost gauss fun TheB33f showed off. Current configs iirc are stock engines, AC20/MRM30/4ML, ERLL/3ML/2MRM10 and AC2/2ML/3SRM4 or something like that. Haven't touched them the last 2 months.

Try AC/20, 4 MPL. Need to stick with an assault for distraction but you bring the pain. For the third build you mentioned slap on 3 ASRM6s and a LBX/10. Same plan as before. Or you can do a MRM80 on it. For the last one try a MRM40 and not sure what lasers I could fit.

The stealth/gauss combo is very situational and I personally love hunting these 'mechs down.

the use standard heat sinks and as for the variants that don't have MASC then you get the two extra tons and space for more weapons. there is not point in nit picking a mech that is not even out yet. The Flea looks viable to me on paper if you don't like it then don't buy it but I suspect you will be getting pissed at them soon enough.

After seeing the Fire Ant, I think there should be other mechs that have the same chassis, but either modified slightly or nicknamed differently for this game.

Like these Mechs:

Crockett
Katana CRK-5003-2: A Downgraded version of the Crockett given to the DCMS as a part of Operation Rosebud.

Charger
Challenger CGR-SB: A modified Charger-1A1 that was made to correct the mistakes of the original variant by turning it into a true assault mech by taking away the speed and upgrading the lasers.[/color]

Hatamotos
Hatamoto-Chi HTM-27T: The original variant
Hatamoto-Hi HTM-27U: Laser Variant
Hatamoto-Ku HTM-27W: Ballistic Variant

Dragon
Grand Dragon DRG-5K: Despite being classified as a different mech, it still uses the Dragon chassis and shares the same tonnage. Essentially it is an upgraded version of the Dragon.

Lupus
Hellfire: BattleMech version of the Lupus made to become testbed mech of Clan Star Adder's Heavy Laser weapons. It takes away the Lupus' Omnitech capabilities and was renamed into the Hellfire to distance itself from its Coyote cousin. Both mechs are identical and share 60 tons.

have you seen what clans can do with piranhas and myst lynx on gens and omega in faction play come wave 4. Machine guns are op and a wave of these at full tilt loaded with mgs will remove the cannon toute suite on siege mode. Anything with 8 machine guns and speed is going to be ridiculous, I had my doubts about the piranha, but... having said that IS machine guns are heavier so we'll see, i loves me a locust or a commando so i'll give this a whirl, bet you'll see more of these than you will black lanners......

I use a thanny with 2 torso mounted mrm 30s or 40's depending on how i feel, can't remember the variant but one has the 2 high missile mounts and is an excellent mid range damage dealer, can last reasonably in a fight too.

also switch to light engines, xls are no good on this mech

Think the collectors edition level will count towards the IS customer appreciation for 2018 like the piranha did for last year?

I think any of the packs will count towards something. I hope they invent the Solaris as a separate item/reward. Anyway I scratched my itch to get the packs, rewards and loot bags.

I got the collector pack, and will likely get the reinforcements add-on, but the hero mech is extremely underwhelming. I don't envision getting it before it goes on a 50% off MC sale, giving it an effective cost of about $2.40.

Find another variant to be the hero. Maybe something with many ballistic slots, since the special variant has 7 energy slots, and the 8x ballistic one is just a normal variant.
