There's a high likelihood that they'd spend hours, if not dozens of hours, just attempting to get 1 win, and those are the people the game really needs to keep because they are the ones that need to keep buying things like premium time.

I'd say there's about a zero chance of that actually happening. Even when you match two guys who are terrible against each other, one of them has to win the fight.

Well you say that, but the game also has a time limit - also given how the MM works now and almost certainly will work in Solaris - the gates will end up more open than those players can deal with in an amount of time that would keep them interested in the game.
It won't take very many "Holy F I suck" moments when those players get matched with people even moderately better than them to chase them off - and this is a straight up reality with all sorts of players getting bored and trolling the low tiers in addition to the MM flood gates.

QP No. However if they wish to take down FW for this new setting, go for it. Maybe when FW returns to game play, they will have fixed the freaking bugs in it. FW set up has more bugs in it than a swath of North Dakota woods.

If you listened to the Podcast, then you'd be aware of Russ stating that no work was being done on FW. As in, none at all. Not one line of code touched, until "much later" after needed tuning with Solaris was finished after its launch. So taking down FW is doing nothing towards improving it, well, other than just not having it up for the 500+ players that regularly drop in it during the week (I'm not one of them).

OP: I'm already heavily divided when I game...SWTOR? Diablo3? Aion? Guild Wars for gits and shiggles? Or ... *sigh* MWO because there's an event for free camo....? Get rid of QP you say? Make it 1v1 or 2v2 only? LOL thank you. Easy choice then. No need to update or load MWO until it's over.

Solaris is going to be that point when 95% of players learn how absolutely terrible they are at this game and have nobody to blame. Slews of people will have a sub 0.5 w/l, a hundred or so people will have a 30+ w/l.

1v1 and 2v2 has 0 tolerance for sub-meta builds and -1 tolerance for bad aim and not twisting. If you take a well honed dueling meta build and you can brawl well (because unless the map is Polar you're pretty much certain to be able to safely force a brawl in 1v1 or 2v2) you'll win 90% of your matches or more vs everyone else.

The math isn't hard.

If my skill level is 55% and your skill level is 45%, in QP there's very, very little difference between us -

However in 1 v 1 I represent a overall 25% increase in your skill level. Unless you *instantly* bridge that skill gap or I take a bad mech and you take a good one that crosses that divide I'm almost always going to beat you. The gap between us doesn't change because you, me and the mechs we take are the only variable.

Solaris is going to be fun for the comp crowd to play each other. I'm betting before too long it's got a lower population than FW, and we will all point and laugh at the people who like FW as PGI doesn't implement all the promised features and then ignores it for a long time, adds something that destroys balance and leaves it for 9 months and the like. Because as soon as they see that it would need a vast ocean of more depth (more like what MW5 will provide) to be relevant they'll write it off.

I will try Solaris for gits and shiggles. It's a new toy, and I'm all for variety. I gave FP a chance too, before dropping it like a hot potato. If there are enough "Let's Do Fun!" players in Solaris, I might even stick around a while- if, as I suspect, it's a minmaxed meta cheese hellscape, it won't hold my interest for long. I could be wrong, though. Weirder things have happened. I will say that, as long as the stats in Solaris don't affect teamplay mode stats/tiers, I will be more likely to stick with Solaris for longer. If doing badly in 1v1 speedbrawls causes my PSR to drop in normal play, I just won't touch it at all after the honeymoon ends.

I don't really care much for FP in its current form, so if that goes down for a few days or a few weeks to give Solaris a bump I probably won't even notice... but if QP went down too, I would just not play until it went back up.
