that is actually an interesting idea for a new map, if its even possible. Those lava streams on therma suggest it is possible
Like that Mass Effect 2 map where you need to stay in shadows.

If you hate map voting so much play FP, no map voting, additional maps AND no nascar

I can't see **** in Therma, and Bog, which is why I do not vote for them. Same reason I never vote for Forest. For me visual clarity is top priority.
Bog can be tricky, but on Therma/Caustic I am partial to night vision. It takes some getting used to but it works better for my eyes.
I also really like Terra and Caustic and will almost exclusively vote for them for a few reasons, one of them being that in QP they reduce the complete ********** because folks have to try to pay attention to heat and actually put some thought into the game over "rotate right".
(I hate QP)

I find it the most boring map in terms of scenery and gameplay... too many corners that block your shots etc.but more than anything I'm just sick of it... because its almost always picked especially when there is an "event" because everyone knows they can rush to the middle, die, and play again quicker than on the other maps.
Can we see some statistics on which maps are chosen by the voting system? Because I feel like PGI should just rebrand it MWO: HPG endless Manifold
Voting is the worst "feature" PGI has made.

Really? I find that caustic is like rotate right central, I think its the worst map for it because on top of obvious map design that leads to it you are actually discouraged from going over the center with heat

I don't like Terra/Forest because I can't see anything. When Grim Plexus comes I'm all giddy and happy as I can *see* (and I don't feel like tweaking contrast just for those couple of maps).
TBH, lately map rotation seems to have lately improved for me; a few weeks ago it was Polar all the frigging time.

Meh, pugs in Therma always tend to fight in the middle and in Caustic they generally nascar one direction. Very predictable.

this is probably the biggest issue with "low visibility" maps. people play a sim and complain about non perfect visibility. the game offers different view modes with different downsides for a reason.
its sad that gamma and contrast tweaks are used in this way in all kinds of games. but it is to be expected when you try to push for the whole "competetive" crap. all humans are scumbags that need every advantage they (or others) can think of.
oh, just in case: my issue is not with you personally, its with that mentality overall. some people gamma up their games so night becomes day, which defeats the point entirely.
but if it was a singleplayer game, theyd probably wouldnt even give a **** about it, because its just another interesting element of the battlefield. makes one wonder how they would want a vietnam war game to be.
great, now i reminded myself of vietcong again :< why is there no vietcong 3 ?

it wouldn't be so bad if the night vision/thermal devices on 100 ton war machines in the distant future would be at least as good as the ones you can buy at bass pro in 2018

Deathstar isn't a bad map on its own merits, it just gets ruined by the community's hive mind instinct to constantly rotate around the center counter-clockwise.
The only other map that gets ruined by Nascar harder than Deathstar is Cancer Valley, the latter of which was pretty much precision-engineered for the singular purpose of promoting and enforcing Nascar. It's probably the map that most contributed to the birth of the phenomenon.

and it would probably be better than any existing gamemode
caustic valley deathrace gamemode
team race. theres 6 teams of 4 mechs. with one mech of each weight class on each team.
win condition is for one mech on your team to win the race (10 laps or whatever)
have to go counterclockwise around the caldera. if you slow down below 50kph your mech explodes.
you can shoot whatever mechs you want because its a deathrace.
special consumables like banana peels and turtle shells
