Is there anyone here who has thoughts about working on a redux of the Mechwarrior 2 games once Mechwarrior 5: Mercenary comes out? I am learning how to make U.I. in Unreal Engine for the game. Granted I don't know how the menu screen for MW5 looks like, but I wouldn't mind modding it. So who else have plans on doing a mode like this?

Think about how awesome it would be to walk around the various clan rooms like these in first-person with the Unreal Engine!

Description:
Mechwarrior 5: 31st Century Redux is a mod for Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries. The goal is to replicate the missions from the previous Mechwarrior 2 games, such as 31st Combat Century and Ghost Bear's Legacy while using the art assets from Mechwarrior Online. As such, there will be a new Ghost Bear Hall to represent the missions of the expansion pack. The mod will also add new features to make it unique compared to its predecessor, like having the ability to walk around the Clan Rooms and play clan mechs that were excluded from the first game in the Wolf and Jade Falcon campaigns.

As for the Clan Stories, here is how they could be:
  • Clan Wolf and Jade Falcon - focuses on the Refusal War from Mechwarrior 2.
  • Clan Ghost Bear - focuses on the missions from Ghost Bear's Legacy.
  • Clan Smoke Jaguar - focuses on how the Jaguars ended up on their situation in Ghost Bear's Legacy.
  • Clan Nova Cat - focuses on the alliance of the Draconis Combine and fighting the Jaguars.
  • Clan Steel Viper - focuses on sabotaging the Jade Falcons.
Absent from MWO:
  • Horned Owl (Peregrine)
  • Phantom
  • Grizzly
  • Naga
  • Stone Rhino (Behemoth)

Would be awesome! A hurdle though would be the Clan 'mechs themselves since MW5 will have a massive roster of IS 'mechs but little or no Clan 'mechs depending if they tease the invasion in game or leave it out.

Speaking of, if MW5 turns out to be good, I hope PGI consider making expansions akin to the older titles. That'd be awesome.

Since we already have the Clan models for MWO, it should be easy to put them into MW5.

We don't have the full roster from MW2 31st or MW2 Ghost Bears. Off the top of my head:
  • Firemoth (We have Half a Firemoth from the Mist Lynx's legs)
  • Incubus
  • Horned Owl
  • Phantom
  • Rifleman IIC
  • Grizzly
  • Stone Rhino
They're not necessary, but it would be a neat challenge to develop those mechs with the Iglesias style.

An MW2 remake would at least require replace the roster of mechs and weapons, a new set of maps/missions, and a presentation of the mission sequence. I've never done Unreal modding and I've done almost no Unreal development, so I'm curious how moddable MW5 will be upon release and if such a mod bordering on total conversion will be possible.

You do have some good points, but I can imagine people making some of those mechs without Alex's assistance. I do want to see how the game will look before modding it though. I do know that at least some games come with Dev Mod Kit that let you mod anything from the menu to the game itself. But its a good thing that Unreal Engine is free to download.

It's a fun idea, though PGI tends to send cease and desists to anyone who uses their assets. The closest thing we may ever get to more 31st Century Combat is original stuff like my videos.

Your post has much win !! This is a phenomenal idea !!! My prediction is we are going to get the best Mech experience yet by way of the community modding the heck out of it. Im praying one can tweak with the physics somewhat to get weight back in these battlemechs instead of this twitchy speed stuff. One can hope !!

Well, HBS is using MWO's assets for Battletech and PGI is using their own assets for MW5. On top of that, PGI has mod support for anyone who wants to give a try to mod the game, so it is highly unlikely that PGI will get after someone for modding their own game.

For the Kell Hounds, they should have these mechs for the mod:
  • Wolfhound
  • Jenner - Used the Jenner IIC due to tech limitations
  • Marauder - Used the Marauder IIC due to tech limitations
