Faction Warfare in MWO is about being part of the story. Strengthen the story.

The pilot has a history, the units have history, the planets have a history and value, and the factions have meaning. the battle is a paragraph in the chapter about the capture or defense of a set of planets, in the wider story of the back and forth of power and position in the inner sphere. The pilots, units, and factions matter.

The stats and leaderboards tell part of the story. It’s up to the community to suggest ideas to make them better. Here are some suggestions to improve the story via the leader boards in FW.
1. Leaderboards having the ability to sort by more than KMDD.

2. New metrics: In this post I introduce new leaderboard stats, Elite, and Winner counters. They are earned in events.

5. Show the unit 4 letter tag next to pilot names and unit names.

Reward the Loyalists. This is the weakest and poorest experience in FW and yet the one area that ties players to the lore the most. Don’t take away from Mercs, that is a favorite role of many a pilot, add to Loyalist specifically for being a Loyalist. Here is one suggestion on how to give loyalist units a home world.

Rank is part of the story a pilot writes for himself. With rank comes privileges. When voting for planets your rank should translate into how many votes you cast. A top ranked merc gets 10, a top ranked loyalist gets 20. If you are rank 6 your vote is worth 6. Generals get more say then privates on which planet to attack next.

Gameplay for faction needs to break up the meta for each map and mode regularly. Only one thing in MWO had that effect, the Long Tom. Meta players hated it because they had to change tactics when Long Toms were in effect. Potatoes hated it because they like to bunch up. Bring it back, 300 pts, 150 meter radius, 4 seconds of smoke. Well placed purple smoke in a stationary death ball should kill several mechs. Battle awareness, spread out, and more scouting can reduce or eliminate this threat. Bring back this challenge. For enhancing the story the battle report should list how many kills the turrets, dropship Dan, and the long Toms made. For enrichment add these stats to the leaderboards.

There can be so much more to the FW story.
