If executed well, mech or robot games can succeed, and you don't need a well known IP or franchise with big studio backing to do this. Just look at how War Robots did in the F2P action and PvP shooter genre in mobile gaming.

I would at least. The fact that its battletech themed is the least of my draws to the game.

Actually there is proof to that statement but I'm not going to get baited by you into placing it on there forums you know how testy the minions can be on this forum.

EVE is a good example of the devs turning a game around from almost dead in fact this last year they have grown there player base by a additional 30% after 10 + years.

I love EVE. Unquestionably. But what it is now is a flailing half-corpse l. It's alienating much of its base, and only those in the largest of factions are still loyal. When you have $15,000 invested in a game, you tend to ride or die. The only reason EVE seems okay is the large number of overly-invested players. They can't quit. It's a poor financial choice.

They haven't turned anything around. The players and their wars keep EVE afloat my friend.

MWO is in a similar place. Whales but everything, so they will ride this bomb til it drops.

But you wanna know what DOESN'T help? Starting threads where you inconsolably, determinedly, and unabashedly **** on PGI multiple times, regardless of subject matter and whatever logic you are presented with. If some pug decided touim3wo get more involved today, hopped on the fourms, and this was the first thread they saw, just how encouraged would he be?

You're part of the problem.

To be fair, pretty much every multiplayer game with an online community has people and threads constantly popping up declaring the game dying or dead. No matter how popular or beloved a game is.

I left EVE long long time ago, after spending three years in the game from the day it opened its doors to the public from beta. In hind sight, those three years can have been spent exploring and playing other games which would have given you a much better variety.

Haven't played a match since season 3.

Wouldn't come back for anything at this point except Russ leaving the company for someone competent. (Sorry, being drunk when doing your job (talking to your customers) is bad.)

What is being advertised as Solaris, while maybe more cannon, isn't what the players asked for. They asked for a Free-for-all player mode like Solaris in MW4-Mercs. There are many who would play that mode (I would have to the exclusion of all other modes). It wasn't a mode for everyone, we get that. But team modes also aren't everyone's cup of tea either.

I started playing because it was a successor to the Mech Warrior series of games. I keep playing because it's a decent and relatively fun game, although like all games it gets old after a few weeks.

CW or FP needs a rewind back to 8v8 days CW 1.0 segregate solo casual players from competitive teams add a nice universal chat lobby to the game UI for player social interaction and lets see what happens.

Huh? What are you talking about?

CW was never 8v8 and solos were not segregated from groups.

Just my point exactly Organized teams and solo players should have been segregated long ago for player retention to this game and in MechWarrior4 we could play anything from a 2v2-12v12.

CW would have been better as a 8v8 game mode rather than 12v12 less wait times better game play for a solo, casual player game mode in FP.

Then do 12v12 for a organized team FP game mode for them.

Bit of an old thread but since I saw it I thought I'd make a comment.

As to player count as in PCU or peak concurrent players, the steam number is the minority portion. Although I don't claim that it's the great minority or something. It fluctuates.

MWO is a pretty steady type of game. Our player counts for about 75% of its almost 6 years since open beta have been pretty similar with some bigger spikes around launch and steam release.

Were currently experiencing a nice slow day over day increase in our MAU or Monthly active users. This is the number of unique users that have logged in during the past 30 days. We haven't had an MAU this high since a couple months post the Steam release.

Were watching to see if this trend continues in the post Solaris release or not, free to play games are tricky and your always searching for the formula that brings in new players and keeps more of them.

Currently we are a 100,000 MAU game and at the moment growing. This does not put us into the categories of the big games not even close but it's still a healthy player base that again is higher than the majority of the almost 6 years.

We have a couple really nice Quality of live improvements coming in next few patches. Were hoping this positive trend on MAU continues. As always we appreciate your support.

Can you expound/explain this a bit more? The leader boards seem to suggest something very different than a "steady" MAU of 100K users. Not trying to nit pick, just to understand. I assume this is some sort of industry terminology that I simply don't appreciate. Thank you.

Thankyou.

Good match the other day, btw. I would have had you if I didn't fall from that catwalk lol.

I am really not sure what the leaderboards would say, I would need to remind myself if even one quick play match in a month would put a player on the leaderboards somewhere. MAU really just means 100,000 people logged into the game in the past month.

Hmmm...

Well, I guess that makes sense. It just seems contrary to the pattern of population that I have subjectively observed for so many years: the same core population of folks at specific times with a transient but very small population of "new" folks that come and go. This idea that there are in fact 50K (or substantially more even) players making up the monthly -potential- playing population (admittedly just logging in but maybe playing too?) just seems, well, unbelievable based on that subjective experience. I hope these folks do more than log in, but stick around.

Well your daily play experience would be more in tune with DAU ( daily active users ) or even more so PCU ( Peak Concurrent users ) - especially since we all tend to play at the same time of day. So if the DAU for that day was 20,000 and you played a few hours in your local evening your only seeing a portion of those 20,000 then add match making on top of that and you start to get to your observations.

It's believable, 100k MAU (monthly active users) playing 5 hours a month on average equals only 700 average concurrent users (100k x 5hr / 30 days / 24 hrs = 694). The peak concurrent users is a bit higher than that since people are clumped in the NA and EU zones.

Interesting calculation - If were to assume its a good way of calculating average concurrent users than players must play about 3 times that much in a month as your average number is only about 1/3 of what it actually is.

I mean even the steam charts PCU shows daily low points of around your 694 number. Almost 2K at this very moment not counting the MWO portal launcher which is a significant portion.

Yep, since you said steam accounts for minority of the players, but it fluctuates, if I assume 50% and use steam chart's 1200 average players to get to 2400 "true" average concurrent players.

Working backwards, that's 17 hours played per month on average.
