The Arrow IV weapon type should be added to fill the role of a heavy missile. LRM and SRM sizes have no difference in individual projectile damage, just salvo size. There is no missile weapon that has the punch the to threaten Assault-class mechs like a heavy gauss rifle or AC/20 can. If this were added, the missile should still be vulnerable to AMS and it would withstand more hits before being destroyed.

I could see this added as a new consumable type. It could work like the current artillery strike, but strike a shorter range cone rather than a straight line.

Technically Arrow IV "Thunderbolt" missile is defeated by a single AMS hit, but if this was so in PC simulations it would never be included. And Thunderbolt missiles are mech shattering missiles so would never be a consumable. They are large and heavy. Anyway, I always like more missiles and Arrow IV would counter ATM's nicely.

Actually, Thunderbolt and Arrow IV are different weapon systems. The Thunderbolt is a large one-shot missile, similar to the current line of rocket launchers but dealing 20 damage pinpoint. The Arrow IV is an artillery missile system small enough (barely) to be mounted on a Battlemech, and is usually parked a good distance away from the battle proper. The Arrow IV, functionally would be similar to the current artillery strike, which is probably a barrage from a Long Tom Cannon parked a few kilometers away.

Long toms and Arrow IV's actually have similar damage and area effect, but the Arrow IV can be targeted onto a specific mech using a TAG laser, and that's a can of worms I'd rather not see opened. Posted Image

Then you want the Arrow IV Homing Missile. Posted Image

P.S. I use TAG all the time, but now that LRMs require massive non-lore numbers like LRM-80 (yes, I am aware of the Longbow and others) or more to do comparatively moderate damage I just regard MWO's LRMs as placeholders for a yet to be delivered weapon system. A Mad Cat with 2 LRM20 should be doing the damage of the current LRM-80 mechs, give or take. Instead, 2xLRM20 are a waste of time because the battle would be over by the time you saw any tactical benefit from them, with your Mad Cat being a steaming pile of salvage. Better to just take an extra 2x ER Mediums.
