I have just come back to MWOnline, brought the FOunders Edition and played about 10 games and then quit due to lag. Really glad to see that so many players are online now. I am based in Sydney and using Vodafone NBN as my ISP, if you are in Australia you will be aware that they are new to the NBN, so I have to give them a chance. My question to everyone is why am I getting a 400+MS to Australia, 350MS to the US and 280MS to EU Servers. This thread talks about servers in Sydney, how do I connect to them please.

If u've already checked Oceanic servers for Quick Play (other modes are strictly NA), then it's your ISP's routing of traffic. It is likely routing traffic out of Australia to some other geography then back to Perth which is where the current Oceanic server is located at. The irony will be that it's routing from Sydney to Singapore or Hong Kong then back to Perth.

Not seen anything on this for a while. Either people have given up and are waiting, or it is fixed and I am missing how to fix it. I am in Sydney, with a 300MS Ping to EU, 380MS to NA and 680MS to Oceania. I am on Vodafone NBN. Can someone give me the IP Address to TraceRT and I will post it up. However as a Founder who left because of the Ping very early on, I would like to give it another go and it is killing me.

Thanks for the reply, .can you give me the IP ADdress and I will tracert it and confirm that. Then I will speak to VOdafone to get an exception to it. However this is not happening on any other game in any of the major Sydney Datacentres.

This is 100% correct I have established it is the ISP routing. As if I use a VPN to a different carrier, then I get a 54Ms ping and even better to the US and EU servers, sub 350MS for EU and 270MS for NA. Need to get the IP Address for Oceania if I can please from someone, so that I can give it to Vodafone to get them to route better.

Can anyone provide it?

Open MWO and connect in a match to the Oceanic Server.

Open a Command Prompt and run a NETSTAT command, while you are connected to a match, and look at your open connections, to determine the IP address of the server you are connected to.

NETSTAT will report everything you are currently connected to, so close down all other apps and browsers to help you isolate the Game Server IP.

Note: from my own investigations, MWO's launcher will contact one servers, and launching into the Mech Lab will contact a news server and (I think) a server that sets up the lobbies. But actual matches are hosted on a different server... the final server you will see once you are connected to an actual match.

An update on the Oceanic server ping situation from an Oceanic unit - almost none of us select it for quick play because of worst ping vs NA plus we get quicker matches on NA. Hell, some of us get better ping to the EU servers vs Oceanic. If PGI isn't going to relocate the Sydney based Oceanic server to a better location based in South Asia (e.g. Singapore) or North Asia (e.g. Tokyo) for the benefit of all players in the WHOLE OF ASIA and AUSTRALASIA, then please really consider renaming the current Oceanic server to the ANZAC server or OCEANIA server because no one in Asia gets decent ping to it. Thanks!

Haha... Saw the ping now... Hiazz...
They can't even call it an Australian server the other half of it gets bad latency apparently.

I've been suffering from lag that I cannot play as Light Mech anymore. And even in slower mechs the battle often is not fun anymore.
I've just ran the mtrtool and the result is mind blogging.
Singapore -> Netherland -> UK -> US - AU

No wonder......

Is there a workaround? Maybe VPN to AU?
I love MWO but I cannot take this forever.
I've sent the MTR to technical. Thanks.

Same with me.

And the lag is getting worse.

I cannot even control my mech anymore.

Oceanic ping was bad before, it's even worse now.

used to get 250-270ms, now it's up to 350ms. 230+ms to NA and Europe. Playing on those servers now since most players seem to be from there anyway.

A VPN that directly connects to a Perth server seems to solve the problem to Oceanic (gets 50ms ping), but results in much higher ping on NA and Euro. Can't be bothered since NA/Euro have much more players and it's easier to get games there anyway.

if PGI isn't going to relocate it, it might as well be shuttered since the Australians are going to have to play on NA anyway, when the Oceanic server turns into a wasteland.

There are new cables between Perth and Singapore now. Not exactly sure if they are online yet however.

Assuming they are at least equal to the ancient crippled one you should be getting 60ms ping or under,

It's more likely you are getting stuffed around by cheapskate ISPs sending your packets in the wrong directions.

I'd like to update my issue.
- MWO tech came back to me saying bad routing is ISP fault.
- ISP said they required "reverse routing" info from MWO to my home. Which I told them impossible to get.

Out of frustration I recheked and triple rechecked my MTR tool result and I saw missing package from PC.... to my home wifi router!!!
WTH! I reinstalled the wifi driver and cleaned the wifi USB same missing packages.

Finally I use network cable from PC to my home router and no more missing packages and most importantly no more LAG in MWO. Either to NA, EU, AU. All is good. Ping is 250+ to EU and NA, 300+ to AU.

I hope my experience is beneficial for everyone. Please check for missing packages.

I contacted my ISP and gave them my tracert to see if they could do something about the routing table to take a more direct route to Australia.

The information they came back to me was that the server in Australis (45.121.208.130) was "announcing" itself as a USA server, which is why traffic goes towards USA before going to Australia, resulting in a 350+ms ping. The technician suggested that if the server itself or the ISP serving the server could change its setting such that it "announced" that it is an Australian server, then routing would take a more direct route.

I've contacted MWO technical on this. Hopefully this may shed some light on Oceanic server's problem and maybe solve the issue, if it can be addressed

Noticed recently the GUI ping for Oceanic is 315ms when previously it was 425ms. Did something change?

EDIT: GUI ping is 315ms but ingame is 365ms, still an improvement from 425ms a few months ago.

EDIT 2: It has fallen to 195ms!

Definitely "someone" fixed the routing. It now goes directly to Australia.

The irony is now that I have selected Oceanic back on queue, Oceanic games aren't queuing at all...
