1988
Citytech
Pearl Ridge Mall, Oahu, HI

I had a paper route at that point and could basically make one $20 gaming purchase per month. Add to that the fact that in '88 gaming stores and TT gaming in general were part of a strong, healthy industry. There were a lot of titles to choose from back then and they were readily available. So, my monthly splurge was an agonized over decision. Prior to picking up Citytech I had been buying a lot of Star Frontiers and D&D products. This was really my first TT foray. In the end it was the cover art that tipped the scales. The Archer crashing through a burning structure scattering people and tanks before it like some vengeful metal god just could not be denied. (It was only later that I realized how ironic it was to insert an Archer into pretty much any urban combat situation...heh...anyway...) So, Citytech it was and the hook was in. After that it was the long happy decent into Battletech madness that has led to decades of fun and entertainment.

Mech Commander, i remember i first saw that game in a game magazine, it was so amazing that i read it every day for like a month! back then i did not even own a computer, but i asked that game around for years when i finally stumbled into Gold version. I cant describe how happy i was. Anyways my point is battletech rocks!!

PS: I dont remember exactly when but it was before mw4 came out.

... one of the novels. which I do not remember! In the late 90's.

First book for the TT game? "classic battletech master rules, 10984, fanpro" ... when it was released.

1987, Everett, Wa. I didn't even have a copy of the game. I just pored over all those deliciously ugly sketches.

Decision At Thunder Rift (novel)

This was my first hit in what became my addiction to the BattleTech universe. I have read all of the novels and most of TROs, played all of PC games, and played various flavors of the Table Top games. I haven't really played anything Battletech for over 5 years until MekTek re-released MW4.

I think I got Mechwarrior 4 for Christmas way back in 2000 or early 2001. Been playing ever since! I picked up a novel or two, but those have been lost amongst the stacks of books around here...

Oh man...awesome book. That was also my first BT novel. I must have read it a dozen times in my teens.

I loved those sketches. I always pictured some scared forward scout in chameleoline armor hiding in the bushes somewhere madly sketching the enemy units patrolling in the distance. (And no "why didn't he use a camera quips?"...obviously they give off an E-sig that would reveal his location. Duh.)
