If it's because "Whaaaaaa too different", then I'm surprised they didn't leave sooner.

If it's because "Wait, this isn't mwo, did I type it in wrong?", that certainly explains what I see sometimes when I play.

Well now that this is no longer "A BATTLETECH GAME", I will just play it for what it is, a stompy robot gladiator game that is loosely based on BATTLETECH lore, while I wait to for BATTLETECH and MW5. Especially since FP is pointless and it is way easier to play Solo or find one friend to drop with.

Looking at the temperature specs for the maps in the patch notes, I wonder if it would be better if PGI just removed them from the games for a set standard for all maps. Yes, this would hurt immersion and be unrealistic, not to mention against 'lore' (which had rules for high-low heat environments, high-low gravity, etc.), but it might actually allow more than a handful of the maps to be played regularly. As it stands, the 'cold' maps always get chosen over the 'hot' maps (at least the majority of the time), so it was almost a waste of resources for PGI to create those maps so players can vote to avoid them. Variety is a great thing, which is sad when variety suffers so that people can overheat less. Granted, map design also plays a hand in player selection, and not all maps are created equal, but the heat issue just makes some maps as rare as a unicorn for how often they get played. If nothing else, maybe just for QP, as drop deck loadout is a strategy in FW.

Or they could just make the maps completely random again and people could just learn to deal with it.

'Resolutions lower than 1024 x 768 will no longer be supported'.

Wait what? that means that you can't play on a laptop at all now? I've been playing at this resolution since closed beta on a desktop!!

It's almost as if you don't want people playing this game.....You're making it easy for people to leave!

Hope that's sarcasm
What's the next common res lower than 1024x768?
640x480?

Also
That's some low res, especially for a desktop

Not against that either, but PGI seems to be. Either way would be fine, I just would like seeing more than HPG, Polar, and Frozen City almost all the time.

Yes, that would be nice, but it doesn't matter to me anymore, since I am retiring from the war zone to pursue a career as a "Stompy Robot Gladiator".

800 X 600 for the record.

The hilarity of people who want to play video games on glorified typewriters and toasters is amazing.

Now i'm gonna have to go and dig through the bin of PC parts that I keep around for wargaming terrain and see if I can build a potato bench to run MWO...

Now that you mention it
There was that one :D

Man I haven't had a res below 1080p for, sigh I don't know 15 years or so? Maybe more? Time flies.

Most Sci-fi based games, stories, movies, etc... tend to contain a lot of "space magic". Battletech is full of "space magic", you really can't try to make a lot of sense of how the technology would work in a scientific way.

Mmm
Maybe
But in the case of Heatsink, aren't they really just radiators?
They usually look like as well in artwork.

Ya know, pumping a liquid through a Heatsink and probably blowing air through it with a fan.

While this wouldn't work in a vacuum, heat is still transferred as radiation as well.
It Would not be very effective, but a niche for the night gyr me thinks

pgi seems to assume that all maps have the same degree of atmosphere in regards to heat dissipation. a moon that is distant from a star would have low surface temps, but without an atmosphere to carry the heat away, dissipation would be a lot worse than a warmer environment with an atmosphere

There is probably very little as cold as deep space
That being said, I would've expected HPG to not add any warmth, but be the most unfriendly when it comes to heat dissipation
And to favor laser Heatsink, but ehh, coding is bothersome I guess

1) Heat is dissipating throughout all contacted solids, including the rock of the entirety of the planet.

2) Heat isn't being trapped by an atmosphere. Energy in this case is reflecting off the surface back into space instead of bouncing between it and a greenhouse gas layer like it does here on Earth. Very little of the energy from a star is absorbed directly into a planet, most of the ambient temperature is caused by energy being absorbed by the surface, atmosphere, and the energy being reflected between the two

3) Second law of thermodynamics.

K
Mmm
1)
On a Mech that would mean only the feet, and as far as construction goes there would be very little heat transfer equipment in such a thing, no?
Also IS has a hard time fitting Heatsink in the feet :D

2)vacuum is kinda an absence of an atmosphere, that's what he is getting at, a vacuum isn't very good at heat transfer
Especially when your main way of transferring heat is convection, except for the night gyr

But the point #2 your making is a really nice explanation for a greenhouse effect
How does it have anything to do with a radiator dissipating heat?

3)
I'd really like an explanation with this one

it's not being replaced. they're just adding Solaris in, THEN getting onto remaking FW better. people've just been bugging about Solaris for a long time.

well, they might start doing something about it in 2 - 3 months once they stop tinkering with solaris

After every match, players will earn Supply Cache Points (SCP) which are displayed in a progression bar. A new element in the game's front end displays progress to the next Supply Cache. When a player earns enough SCP to fill the progression bar, they will be awarded a Supply Cache which contains all kinds of rewards, and then resets the SCP progression bar back to zero and the process repeats.
Once a player has earned a Supply Cache, the contents inside of it can be viewed. Each Supply Cache contains 4 items randomly picked from an item pool based on the Supply Cache's rarity. All 4 items are given to the player when the Supply Cache is opened.

With the part I underlined, I was curious does that mean that Supply Cache's Still have to be Unlocked? meaning we still have to buy a MC Key or such to get the Cache to open to get the 4 Items? I mean it kinda supsicious to have Supply Caches Viewable before be able to open rather then just open and find the surprise random items.

Is this because of the Gambling stuff that has happened when considering Loot Boxes or was this just made to sell the boxes if you don't want the items?

They have been nerfing Clan Tech since the Clan Mechs were released (plus they were already nerfed before they were released).

Hardly anyone at PGI has to endure this new site design, since they don't use their own forums much if at all.Posted Image

Really not convinced Solaris is going to retain players other than the instant gratification FPS twitch players. When battle tech comes out

I am too old to be a "twitch" player anymore (as Fortnite has painfully taught me), but I do want a game mode that will give me the greatest reward for the shortest investment in time.
