i dont know what to think about the fafnir yet, i will reserve final judgement till its completely skilled out but this centre torso, everytime ive been killed i get cored out so quickly with this huge ct hitbox that doesnt have enough armour, and everyone knows to focus it, im not sure if this is worse than what the sun spider was going through or not, anyone else have the same thoughts or is it just me being a potato.

Well, people were worried about the side torsos, so I guess they "fixed" that... Posted Image

Sadly, there's really no saving this thing without insane armor quirks. It's like a huge Cicada, and the Cicada has some of the worst hitboxes in the game. Legs constantly falling off, no ability to shield realistically from any angle. Just torsos and legs, all ready for the killing... ugh.

Yeah, that CT is pretty easy to chew through. I thought the ST's would be the issue, but the CT protrudes so far that any attempt at twisting makes it even easier to hit.

I tried to rename mine to suit the required playstyle, but "Direct, intense, unflinching eye contact" wouldn't fit.

Maybe "Staredown" would work?

Ironically, the only time I've piloted a Fafnir, my CT was the last torso bit attached before I went down. Prolly because I had stealth armor and wasn't main priority.

The price for being smaller than an Annihilator is having torso hitboxes that can be isolated from orbit?

its unfortunate. They should make it big but a smaller ct with anhialater quirks+ extra armor. Not as tall as an annihilator but maybe as big as an atlas

From what I've seen and experienced, the Fafnir is much, much worse than those mechs.

Yeah, being playing for a few hours with the Fanfir. Trying many configs that the package cleaned out my C-bills fast. Fanfir is a easy kill, and I am sad about it. I thought for sure the Fanfir would be as tough as the annihilator (hard to destroy). On every match that has Fanfirs, that every (QP) match all are destroyed. You might encounter one lucky one (rare). Very, very weak mech, even for an assault. Terrible mech atm.

success comes from waiting with these things till the enemy comes to you then unloading as much as possible before your core shreds, ive found x4 lb 10-x-ac quad fired kinda does the trick, it really can go either way, either a good match and youre lucky or someone sneaks up behind you and sneezes or you get focused down in seconds, still have some hope for when its fully skilled.

I'm just amazed that you guys are dying to CT so consistently. I take back my earlier criticism about the STs!

Exactly... I'm really surprised that PGI made the not only the side of the ST circles part of the CT, but even part of its vent as well!!!

At the same time, if the CT hitbox was removed from the "physical STs", would it turn into an easy to ST nightmare?

I take back what I said earlier about this mech obviously being easy to ST kill, PGI obviously did a great job with hitboxes to correct that. I do still wish the ST width to depth ratio was 1:2 instead of 1:1. This would have respected the original Battletech art, reduced the diameter of the circles by 30%, and made the CT protrude only to the cockpit ridge-line. The exposed surface area to damage would have gone down for both the ST and CT as a result...

I'll wait for my experts to say whether it's viable in combat or not, if so I'll buy it.

If you take some of your back armor to front. Will help be stronger. Just watch your back. Having a good time now using the Fanfir with armor adjustments.

Well from what I am seeing right now either no one is playing them or they are better than most here are admitting. I mean aside from this one thread, there is almost no one posting about them. That being the case I have to be a bit skeptical about just how bad the Fafnir is.

No offense to everyones opinions here in the thread but based on past experience, one tiny thread griping about a problem tends to just be a place to collect the small minority of player that have a gripe about one aspect of the mech or even those player that were pre-disposed to the idea the mech was going to be bad. Typically if there is a real issue, there would be 4-5 thread going, all full blaze.

Also not seeing any complaint threads about it being OP either so my guess if that in the grand scheme, the Fafnir is actually just plain old average which is going to disappoint alot of people who were hoping for an another Annihilator or maybe even a pre-nerf KDK-3 for the IS side of things. Of course this disappoints me as well to be honest since an average mech isn't worth spending real cash on. Unless something comes to light over the next few days, I guess it will be waiting to C-bills before I pick up a Faf.

I don't think dropping the last 6 armor from my rear will make a difference.
