Are you using a 32-bit operating system?

Yes. That might be what it is. Happened with planetside 2 as well.

You need a 64-bit version of Windows to run the game from now on - the question is whether or not you can do that on your machine .
- What's your CPU? In theory all CPUs that are above min spec should support 64-bit instruction set, but let's make sure if yours does.
- What's your Windows version? If you're still on XP, you're SOL - but if you have Windows Vista or newer, your existing license is valid for the 64-bit version; you just need to get a 64-bit setup disc for the same SKU (Home/Premium/Pro etc) and install that version using your current product key (obviously backup your stuff first)

Starting with yesterday's patch, 32-bit support for MWO ended. This was announced about 2 months in advance although perhaps PGI wasn't as overt about this announcement as they should have been.

Windows 7 is what I'm running. Might be able to update, but meh. Maybe.

No need to update to Win 10. Your license for Windows 7 covers both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions, all you need is the install media.
I'm not sure I have the install media, but I already had my fun. Good thing I made that mrm40 2 er medium laser raven and got to play it a few times before this happened. The thing is that the game requires more and more meta builds at higher levels and there aren't that many combinations that I was excited for. Also, I found out that phantasy star online blue burst is still around and I've been playing that. I have a pc that can handle 64 bit, but I've been too lazy to set it up. If any game would motivate me to do that it would be planetside 2, but I looked at their server populations and it's pretty much dead. I'm just not all that interested :/
