Bounty Hunters
Was just thinking, if Merc Units were able to buy a few things on a credit system, but then lost a few contracts and weren't able to make payment, it would be a really interesting game option for a "Bounty Hunter" contract to be placed on them that other merc units or lone wolf's could bid on.

Winning a bounty hunter fight would rase the stakes, a larger contract would be placed. This would continue unless the credit debt were paid off, the merc unit folded, or the merc unit lost a bounty hunter fight (and would then lose some or all of it's stuff)

Pirates
Pirate units could be formed by lone wolf or merc units whose loyalty rating went negative towards a certain house. They would be able to initiate attacks versus house planets of that house's periphery area planets, and they would get a bonus for win streaks. However, that house would start placing contracts on the pirate group for higher and higher amounts, much like Bounty Hunter contracts, House units would get loyalty bonuses for taking these contracts.

This gives options for the dark underside of battletech. It also gives gameplay options for people that want to be a bit more Arrrr! It's not a fully developed idea, but I think would be pretty nifty.

Thoughts?

Good idea. That makes it feel like the game is responding to you, not just giving out contracts.

Good idea.

It would need some fine tuning or you get full on Eve level Pvp and guild screwing. But not a bad premise.

Being a pirate seems like fun. Whats better then a pirate? Obviously a space pirate.

I like it and wouldn't mind the eventuality of pirate nations out beyond the periphery being included as 'demi factions' that only really attack one house. Davion is busy? The Tortuga Dominion comes in and starts attacking outlying planets (actually ends up help making the Filtvelt later on). If you are Davion LPed you can take contracts against the pirates and if you are -LPed to Davion you can help the pirates.

If you have some extra C-bills, and there is that one pilot who is a lone wolf or other wise who you just cant stand (Yup, like many cant stand me) You can put C-bill contract down for something like 'destroy said players blah de blah' or just kill them 3 times and collect reward. The contracts can all be drop down menue for creation to help keep it simple.

I like some facets of this idea.

Though I think the Devs should reserve the actual Bounty Hunter and his lance for their own use. That would be a perfect vehicle for GM sponsored special events and such.
