How Are We Playing With A 300 Elo Difference?

Usually the one with the 300 points lower ELO gets wrecked

I mean, how many people are you seeing in the queue? When I was playing 2 days ago it was maybe 25 on average.

Less than 5 probably. Shouldn't they skip the match then? Rather than go ahead with a 300 pt difference?
PS: 5 to 10 atm

Then you would have to wait 10 minutes for a game because there probably aren't many people that have around your elo online at the same time.

Play during prime time. Solaris is not everyone's cup of tea so very few people are online during off hours.

Either get wrecked/wreck face or wait an eternity for a proper match

Do you not realize that by 'farming potatoes' you're actually destroying the game mode? Because those players aren't going to have a good impression if they get wrecked in moments and continually face opponents miles better than them! Plus you're not gaining anything so it's practically griefing.

Lol, are good players supposed to play badly on purpose just so as to not upset the bad ones? What a great concept to apply to a PvP multiplayer game. Toxic meritocracy and all that, nice meme.
Also, no one is farming potatoes intentionally in Solaris, the MM just picks the best match-ups it can.

Are you being funny here?
Seriously can't tell. Honest question.
I ask because Solaris, is by the very nature of the mode, ultra competitive, Duncan Fisher is even making fun of you if you lose, "hey baby, that's right, check out my Epeen and if you are impressed with that go look at my leader board stats...oh and look at the horns on my mech's ***" mode. This seems self evident, and I say that as one of the regularly farmed potatoes.
Also, Solaris, I must admit, is still pretty fun even as one of those potatoes.

Sooner or later I gotta beat them all so all challengers are welcome!

Good. Perhaps then these potatoes would realize that Solaris not meant for them. One actually needs some skill to play a ranked mode--just look at all other games, such as LoL, and Overwatch. Good players don't want scrubs in Solaris either, cause the amount of Elo earned by defeating them is pitiful.
Bottom line is: Git gud first, then play Solaris. Unlike FP, there are no units to carry the scrubs' sorry asses.

Thats all well and good but my ELO courrently is 1600 mainly due to playing a locust. I have been put up against people with ELO 2500 already.
The problem is... I do not think Solaris has the population it needs for ELO to really work.

This is just the first week. If people pester Russ loudly enough, then PGI might switch mechs between divisions sooner than 3 months. So fire up your Twitter. Also, stop playing Locust if you wish to be placed higher.

I ran into a +500 in a moderately populated queue. Poked around from cover for 3+ minutes before the "super-skilled" player realized he'd actually have to leave the elevator to win the match or end up with a time-out tie.

Just in QP they get carried by better players and delude themselves into thinking their crap builds and poor choices are viable.
As someone who's a little tired of carrying sandbags I have 0 empathy for bads complaining that because they are bad and refuse to put in the teaspoon of effort involved in improving the game is no fun for them.
They make it less fun for everyone else. The implied threat that the game will fail if we don't constantly work to help create the illusion that the players who refuse to take good mechs or make good choices are still winners is patently false.
We've tried for YEARS to nerf teamwork, punish accuracy, reduce mobility, buff every counter and make dropping in larger groups as punishing as possible. You know what?
Good players in good mechs still beat bad players in bad mechs all the time. The people who refuse to adapt or improve or put in the effort still lose just as much and this who were going to quit still quit. Just now the good players and team players quit because everything handles like **** and they're punished at every turn for not being a terribad.
We need to quit that. If you want to win you have to put in the effort to not suck. That's not unreasonable.

The problem is when mechs do nothing but put their back against the wall and wait. I am sorry but that is not fun to deal with every damn match.

As usual with MWO, the problem is low population and the matchmaking issues that flow from that.

Little details. Really it's the small player base and as things like this happen then less and less will come back. There's already people who thought they were good and found out they were bad and have quit Solaris. Looking forward to seeing what the battletech release next week does to the elo match ups.
