Good thing there is no market overlap and no one who enjoys an FPS will be drawn to a turn based game. /s
I suspect (and hope) that this population drain is temporary. But still, seems like a lot of the players of this here FPS have gone to play a turn based game instead. Solaris didn't stand a chance against the nostalgia and novelty of BT.

BT is a single player game, so once they finish the campaign most of those players will be back. I'm not worried.

I am a bit worried.

From many I know and from reading these forums and reddit over the years, I feel like a lot of the folks who went BT, went not just for the novelty of a new game, but for the nostalgia of a BT (TT) like game. That is something that a lot of folks have been pining for, for a long time, and they have only been playing this game because they had nothing else to scratch that itch. Now that they have something, and a game that lets them play it over and over with various different outcomes and theoretically never getting beat down by players with better skill, I think a lot of folks are going to be quite content to never return to MWO. These folks never cared about fps vs turn based vs whatever format; they only cared about "immersion" and "lore" and nostalgia, and now they have it. Whether you liked these players or not, they helped fill the queues and now they are gone. If the queues stay this barren for long enough others will leave too out of frustration and boredom.

Anyway, I hope you are right and they get back here soon.

Like the 1600 hours I have playing Skyrim? It's still one of the top played games in Steam. A lot of SP games are in the most played games list.

People play what is fun and engaging. I'll get hundred of hours out of Battletech. Its incredibly done and open ended and modable AF and as successful as launch has been (there are certainly more people playing BT right now than MWO. Possibly 2x or 3x as many. Maybe more) it's certain to get DLC expansions and most of us will throw money at it. Christ I bought 6 copies total, gifting to friends.

I say this as someone who enjoyed Solaris way more than I expected. However it's got a lot of limitations and 2 weeks out I'm already struggling to find matches in 1 v 1, in 2 v 2 it's often empty in most divisions. To say that's going to just turn around on its own is a terrible strategy to take.

Solaris event with grab bags time.

certainly will be back. but wont be playing solaris.

I have zero interest in that gamemode. its too flawed and one-dimensional.

Success. Bad players stayed/went back to QP, good players stayed in S7 in droves. I rarely see the people I'd normally have in QP anymore, replaced by the matchmaker shoving piles of new and usually terrible fodder in to replace them.

That's about what I expected- poor players would go in, quickly whine about being beaten in their trashbuilds, ignore the ELO system needing time to put them at the bottom where they belong, and go back to QP because the second they find out there's nobody to blame, it's too painful to experience further losses.

There is no mode that will satisfy the truly stupid, but S7 is very good at showing they exist. I mean, there's someone trying to ban NARC from S7.

Not sure I'm coming back, 5000 matches feels like enough over the years, and I don't even like online games to begin with.

MWO was the only Mechwarrior/BT game.
BT has the enough going to scratch that itch to hold me ober till MW5.

There is Frostpunk begging to be played, bought Alien Isolation on "Alien Day", just got a PS4 pro in God of War design.
Many better games in need to be played, and again now that the MW/BT itch is being addressed (and MW5 on the Horizon), shrugs.

Why return to MWO?

Sure I'm grateful that PGI has seemingly opened the door for MW again, but after having spent 1500$ it feels like I did my part as well.

Heh, still have about a year premium banked, ehh whatever.
Was good times playing team death match a few thousand times.
All things considered money well spent (on a dollar per hour ratio), but it feels like its enough now.

Maps should make all weapons useful. Force players to carry balanced loadouts.

No, no they should not.

Bracket builds are garbage. No map can be designed that would get people with any sense or understanding of the game, to run garbage and not specialise.

Not done in real life either. A tank may have some back up machine guns but the machine is built around it's main gun. Mechs which are like walking tanks we are told, are the same.

Even as I watch streamers playing Battletech, it is obvious even there it makes sense to have long range support mechs with some brawlers.

These ridiculous lore builds and TT stuff would only make sense in very prolonged engagements on very big maps...even then, specialists and balancing a team around those specialists would rule the roost.

You are probably a lost cause but hopefully people stuck on mixing the loadouts on mechs will begin to understand that this is where the lore is wrong and impractical.

I would really like to know where these "droves" of people are. I barely see anyone in the 4 divisions I play in. And by I barely see anyone I mean, 5 outta 8 matches I play the same person with an ELO well below me.

I played a fair bit on Friday and through Saturday night EST in division 7 trolling in an Uziel. On both days the queues were very short on players, and on Saturday night it was more or less only Oceanic players online, and I kept being matched against players in the 1300 hundred range, ouch. The mode has maybe 20 "regular" players within the 1500-1600 range with new players appearing once or twice, getting smacked down and then leaving. I wouldn't say the population is dead yet, but it's very, very low.
