So I was thinking about how people love lasers on this game.
But...people also love hiding.
So I came up with an idea.
What if we could exchange certain armor pieces for mirror armor?
How it would work is that you, hiding from safety, could shoot a friendly mech that is in the open near-ish an enemy unit. Instead of damaging the friendly, though, the laser beam refracts at an angle and hits the enemy unit.
That way you can deal direct fire damage via lasers from cover!
I'm also considering proposing an idea for ballistic rounds, a la rubber bands to ricochet gauss rounds, AC rounds, etc.
Perhaps a magnetic shield or something to bounce SRM/ATM/LRM fire...

Reflective Armor is canon, but it doesn't actually deflect things. It just reduces all energy weapon damage by 50%.
For missiles and artillery there's Reactive Armor.
For ballistics there's Ballistic-Reinforced Armor (way in the future of the timeline).
For shielding there's the Blue Shield Particle Field Dampener system that reduces PPC damage.

I'd love to put a mirror armor in my front CT so the opponent can see his mech's sorry reflection before it is blown up by me.

Are you even aware of the capabilities of free-electron lasers?
BT lasers are not the same as those disco lights you're familiar with.

They could implement it like its done in Elite:Dangerous. If you equip mirrored armor you get a malus on kinetic and explosive weapons and vice versa.

The problem with mirrors versus weapons grade lasers is that you'd need a mirror that's nearly 100% reflective to not melt into a useless puddle on the first shot. And even on the off chance you get one of those, contact with the environment will likely ruin it before you get to battle. And if the environment doesn't ruin it, missiles and cannon fire will.

Immediately I thought of reflective and reactive armors... something WAY overdue...

Dayum, when I read title I had completely different idea of what this thread would be about. To be more on point: I'm all for mirror armor, but for different purpose. Most of us have big trouble seeing how our mech looks from 3rd-p perspective, especially when you run all those fancy camos and badges, so I figure if other mech would have mirror armor, you could get closer and see yourself! Just how cool would that be?

That's exactly what laser reflective armour does in CBT....

Though the armor functions like standard armor against ballistic weapon attacks, it is very brittle. Whenever a 'Mech is physically attacked, falls, or crashes through a building, the armor is half as effective as standard or Ferro-Fibrous armor. This weakness has also been observed in artillery attacks. In addition, Armor-Piercing autocannon ammunition, Tandem-Charge missiles, and BattleMech Tasers all have a better chance of penetrating the armor and causing critical damage.
Like the Ferro-Fibrous armor it's based on, Laser Reflective Armor is bulkier than standard armor. In game terms it provides the standard protection per ton, and takes up ten critical slots on a 'Mech. The total damage taken by the armor from energy weapon attacks is rounded down.
Funny thing about standard AC ammo, is that it is H.E.A.P. (High Explosive Armour Piercing) rounds, so it should do bad things to Laser Reflective Armour, like increased crit chance or extra damage... it used too, but that changed in the newest rule set...
