One doesn’t realize just how much PGI can improve on these...if it wants to...and good Lord does it make a difference to immersion. Just saying.

i think every laser should have a distinct appearance. heavy lasers i think should be orange, purple and bluish-white respectively to make them distinct from er lasers. pulse is already pretty distinct from the others. clan micros neeed to be more blood orange to distinct them from the magenta small lasers. also need something to distinct is std lasers from er lasers.

id even go as far as having different sized weapon models for different laser classes, different models for different types. keep the square ones for std lasers, do a wide apurature hex model for er lasers, circular small apurature for pulse. pgi needs to redo its weapon model system for this though. every time they change weapons they need to do retrofits that never get done. with a proper modular system they would just have to throw in new weapon models and script the layout.

PGI really should rework MG's tracer animation so that it will clearly show that the MGs are hitscan. Kinda like TF2's Heavy's minigun tracers.

It just amazes me how the little things...matter. Sounds *matter.* They make the difference between feeling like you’re stomping around in a 95-ton death machine and running around in an enhanced suit of armor like Call of Duty In Space. The current sounds for IS AC10s, machine guns, and medium lasers are WEAK and always have been. Come on, guys...we can do better than this.

And darn it, heavy lasers NEED THEIR OWN COLORS. I want to know if that Loki is packing HLs or ER lasers. I want to know what I’m being shot with before my side torso just goes poof. I know when it’s regular IS ACs, or IS ultras, or Clan ultras, or LB-X, or MGs, and Clan ER large lasers are different than IS ER large, which are different from IS large lasers...they’re different shades of blue, folks, if you look at them. But Clanner HLL looks like a Clan ERLL, their HML looks like an ERML, and their HSL and ERSL look alike too. That’s lame, lame, LAME.

Seriously, changing the color on heavy lasers is something your average modder could do without a lot of effort, never mind a developer.

Also, you haven't played with pulse lasers until they sound like an AT-ST's blasters. Mmm. Pew pew pew pew!

IMO the sounds could use help more than the visuals.

Especially the old non-ER iS-side lasers sound weak. The new ER-ML's sound better.

"Purple" isn't but "violet" certainly is.

sounds and graphic mod are already a thing in MWO. PGI doesn't mind you altering the game files so you can see things clearer or differentiate them better than people not using mods. You can even use reshade for some clean up and gamma corrections so you don't even need to mod the game files.

But you can mod the game files too and PGI doesn't mind, someone just posted this the other day on reddit and he's got purp HLL https://www.reddit.c...gargoyloe_gard/

You can also just make mechs have an emissive value too so you don't need to use heat vision and they just glow no matter the conditions. Which is pretty cool.

There's only so many colors that are visually distinct, and I think they're best used to distinguish IS vs Clan or something really unique. I'd rather see heavy lasers get a different beam effect and a sound adjustment.

The ultimate in lazy development. a SIMPLE color change .. not possible for a year.

I've been all over Russ on Twitter for Heavy Laser colour changes for months... to the point I'm afraid he'll ban me if I mention it again. He said once that he was going to talk to the art department and saw merit in the change for purple and orange heavy lasers, but that was months ago. I just don't think anything will happen on that front. Either they don't care or it is of such low priority that we will see it in a year. I'm bummed, like the rest of you.

technically white shouldn't be a thing either but ive seen cutting machines put out white beams, though it was a co2 laser so it was probably in the infrared and the glow was probably plasma coming off the cut. or perhaps some quirk of the eye protection glass in the lid. but it would look really cool. figure a laser that could liquefy tons of metal armor would do some weird things to the atmosphere.

Why I use a Sound Pack.

Wonder if they could do a "Light Pack" for laser colors without fear of EULA violation.

Wait what? You can make mechs always be highlighted visually? Does this apply even to stealth armored mechs?

This sounds less like a help and more like an unintended exploit.
