In watching the new Battletech game, I realize there's something desperately important missing from MWO.

SPRINTING.

Our mechs should have the option to move faster, at the cost of not being able to use our weapons. I would think that you can simply allow all mechs to run as if they had MASC, but put all the weapons on a global cooldown. You could even keep the damage function if you wanted.

"but that would invalidate MASC" you say.

"Not at all!" I reply.

MASC would allow you to fire while sprinting.

I think the sprinting in BattleTech is just a balancing thing. It's not actually increasing the top speed of mechs. It's probably taken from the board game and it's just supposed to make you think a little more.

You can already move your mech at its top speed. I don't know what you mean with sprinting tbh.
Sounds like you want a free MASC on every mech.

Yes, that's kind of the point. to give you an increased depth of play - make you think a bit more about how to play. It's not a balance thing, because ALL mechs would receive it.
In BT and tabletop, you can sprint, but not use your weapons for a round.

@Toha:
Right now in MWO, you can move at a top speed, but it allows you to continue to use your weapons.

MASC allows you to stop on a dime, turn almost instantly, and (the most useless option) increase your speed for a short time.

I want the ability to have mechs move at a slightly faster speed but not be able to use their weapons.
They don't need (shouldn't) gain the maneuver bonus of MASC.
Additionally, MASC could allow pilots to sprint and not suffer the penalty of locked weapons.

This way, MASC is still useful, serves its purpose.

In addition, Heavier mechs could keep up with faster lighter mechs.
Lighter skirmishers would actually have a chance of escaping when they need to.
Mechs that are out of position can have a better chance to rejoin the fight.
Since it would be a bonus based on your current top "cruising" speed, it would benefit builds with bigger engines, making you decide whether you should take the lighter payload for greater maneuverability.

In the BT game, sprinting is the same as full throttle in MWO. In the tabletop, you are too inaccurate when moving at full speed to hit the broadside of a planet you were buried inside of, so sprinting prevents firing entirely as a simplification of the gameplay. (who really wants to try for that 0.00001% chance dozens of times per game?) The same sort of simplification is used in D&D. This translates over to MWO ver poorly because of the way the accuracy is controlled by the player, and not the roll of some dice.

BTG has the right of it. "Sprinting" in BT is just full throttle in MWO.
