Past MechWarrior games have had rich dynamic gameplay due to the game launch system that allowed Mechlab after Map selection. MWO could do something similar by allowing players to have a Drop Deck of 2-3 mechs, all of the same weight Class, in Quick Play. Then once players are Readying up, waiting for the Drop, they could quickly choose which mech was best suited for the map or mission.

Doing this would also allow weapons to be more mission specific since the players would have tactical choice for each drop.

The improvement would be greater gameplay depth and variability with no slowdown since mech selection would take about 10 seconds or less.

The fear some folks have is that knowing the map makes Mech combat more prone to everyone boating one weapon. The truth is that knowing the map makes each map favor a different set of tactics. Or at least that is how it worked in previous MechWarrior multiplayer games. You knew when that fast LB-20X was right or perhaps a slower Gauss Rifle.

Great Idea. How many times have I said "Should have dropped with the other Load out".

I thought others would have suggested something similar, but I searched 5 pages back and used the Search feature with a couple of likely titles.

The negative feedback is incorrect. You don't see just LRM boats on the open maps, you see a variety of long range weapons, some directly chosen as LRM counter-attacks. Everyone brings AMS. It's not the nightmare some are assuming, it's more like real tactical planning. Same with short range maps like Mining Colony.

With Solaris 7 coming it would be good for players to have a way to test their ideas about map-based mech configurations on the Quick Play maps. I assume that players will know the map they are dropping on in the Solaris 7 arenas.

No, a three mech optional drop deck would improve game play variety a great deal and hurt no one.

As opposed to drop decks, I'd suggest mech loadout presets... You select your mech and are limited to that specific variant, but you get 3-4 loadouts of the mech to choose from (built by you in the mechbay) before the map starts.

MWO seems to have problems with saved variants/presets. I think because a lot of changes cost CBills, but there might be more to it. It can do Drop Decks though so they might be fairly easy to apply to Quick Play.

And I'll be able to run right up to them in my Stealth Armor Locust, and kill them all... I see no problem.
