As for firing arc, MWO can't make arm weapons use the torso crosshair unless you've got armlock activated.

Which is why hardlocking it to certain mechs and variants is a pretty good idea. That way, it's consistent and you don't have that as an issue.

yep hardwiring longtom/arrowIV is the only thing that makes sense. at least in the current state of the game since we dont have dynamic crit splitting and likely never will.

so yeah only the catapult C3 and Naga would be able to use ARROWIV. it would be a hardwired weapon system that couldnt be removed. and they would lose their arm actuation.

BUT we would have arrowIV In the game. With minimal effort required on PGIs behalf (all they have to do is add a new catapult variant, the NAGA, and the ARROWIV weapon itself, and maybe make some adjustments to TAG)

We could also legit have a use for -P variants on other designs simply because this would allow for more artillery-capable chassis AND give PGI more reasons to add such.

And who's gonna complain if they're canonized? Artillery is a rare bird otherwise on giant robot.

Also, don't forget the Urbanmech eventually gets an AIV variant. :)

There are actually two Artillery weapons that can be added to MWO without critsplitting being an issue, and Clan ARROW IV is one of them(On account of it being 12 crits and 12 tons. The only reason the Naga uses crit-splitting is because it has them mostly in the arms). The other is the Thumper cannon, which is 7 crits and 10 tons, but only has a range of 18 hexes and a damage of 5/2.

the problem is ARROWIV on the IS side.

if you have to hardwire ARROWIV on the IS side, then its only fair to also hardwire it on the Clan side.

also by limiting it to specific mechs, it significantly reduces how many weapon meshes need to be created.

one of the reasons PGI doesnt like to give us new weapons is all the work that has to be done creating weapon meshes for every mech that can use those weapons.

by hardwiring it to the catapult/naga they have to make ARROWIV meshes for two mechs. they can implement it with minimal effort.

ARROWIV could easily be added within the span of one or two patches.

I think aiming the Long Tom in MWO would work like aiming unlocked LRMs. It shoots whatever spot of ground you have your crosshairs pointed at.

That's how it works in TT. You aim at a spot of ground, NOT at the mech you're trying to hit. But unlike MWO, mechs don't take turns moving and projectiles have flight times, so you actually have to predict where your target will be in order to do any damage at all. I imagine it'd be like trying to hit a target with unlocked LRMs too, except the splash damage gives you some home of actually doing damage.

I imagine a Artillery Cannons would be most useful for breaking choke points like the saddle in Crimson Straits.

It'd be shooting it over hills and such that would be the problem, really.

Which is relevant how? You said no mech, period, could fit a long-tom, which is incorrect. It used to be correct before super-heavies, but not anymore.

Streak MRMs? The Society's iATMs make those obsolete. They replace the built-in Artemis IV FCS with the Streak FCS like on the Clan's Streak SRMs and LRMs, so all the missiles hit their target! How about an iATM-12 with inferno warheads to overheat a target to shutdown? Follow that with HEPosted Image

They can also be fired indirectly like LRMs. It's a shame The Society didn't make more of these weapons. They would've totally turned the Clan way upside down in the homeworlds.

iATMs will likely never be added because ATMs that could indirect fire would make LRMs even more obsolete

IMP missiles would be nice but theres no ammo switching in MWO so theyll never be a thing.

It really wouldnt be that good. since it would screw up using other weapons at the same time as MRMs.
