Hi all I just started playing this game on Monday and I'm having a blast. Recently my friend gifted me with a Quickdraw IV-4 and I have absolutely no idea what to do with it. I've tried looking up a few loadouts but haven't really found one that looks great, and one video I watched the loadout was too heavy for the mech so that was confusing. Also, any tips you can give on how to play it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

1st. In-game Mouse sensitivity.. move to to the far left to around 1.5.. adjust to your liking. This will help gaining more control, a more steady aim.

Make sure to finish the Academy lessons.

Never sell a mech.

Good time to purchase some MC but save it for mechbays when they go on sale. Regular price 300mc, sale price 150mc. By default players start out with 4 mechbays.

I've had plenty fun with the double Ac10 2 ml one. Run it like a gunslinger firing the cannons left right left right

Check out MechSpecs.com . They got lots of build ideas for you to try . They also have star ratings for the most cheesy / awesome builds .

MRM60 to MRM80, jump jets and a huge engine. Strip the arms.

Chances are the build used Endo-Steel structure (which gives you 5% of the mech's tonnage) and a Light or Extra Light engine (which require less tonnage but take up additional space, and are more risky due to effects of side torso loss - reduced mobility and heat efficiency on Light and instant death on Extra Light)

" I watched the loadout was too heavy for the mech so that was confusing."

Doesnt helps to tell him. try 2 AC10 when he dont know HOW to build in.

For explaining the basics bout heatsinks endo Ferro and how to buld a mech, read this one. Yes its old but the basic stuff is still the same:
Download the beginners guide. All the things with critical slots double heatsinks and more are still the same. Gives you an idea how to build a mech . explains the most impportant stuff.
https://mwomercs.com...s-guide-to-mwo/

then the bwrowser mechlab smurfy(safes Cbills & here you find number infos bout the maps and mechs
:https://mwo.smurfy-net.de/

the browser skilltree.: https://kitlaan.gitlab.io/mwoskill/

In the Academy, there is a ative combat zone where you can trainee against KI mechs, go from spawn over to the Container crane.
In the german forums we offer newbys to trainee and get the basics explained by a veteran player in the Lobby.
, maybe someone has time to group up with you in the lobby and explains and shows you the basics over Teamspeak. Much easier.
Hope the links help a bit. See ya o7Posted Image

"and one video I watched the loadout was too heavy for the mech so that was confusing."

If you lower your engines speed , you can free up tons of tonnage for weapons . Most mechs , especially the heavys and assaults are much faster than they really need to be . Your job is to pawn noobs not win races.

What you saw in the video was probably an extra light engine or a mech with less than his average speed , I am betting the latter .

Thanks for all of the help everybody. I was playing around with the browser mechlab and came up with this as just a little missile harasser. https://mwo.smurfy-n...c3150071ddc13c1 - What do you think?

Very close, but I think https://mwo.smurfy-n...6c3441eb6d1149f this is probably the optimal build. A little less ammo, and no armor on the arms, but it's faster and can jump.

MRM40 and 20 don't sync, their cooldowns are different That's why 2x30 is used.

Join a unit that provides training. Learn in Quickplay, follow people, see where they go on the map and if you die, spectate others to see their builds. Don't be afraid to ask questions, but the biggest thing is not to rush. Take your time and set yourself a goal. Maybe 100 damage a match, then 200.

Most of all, have fun and welcome to a great game :)

This was more of a joke build made as a bit of "Why not?" and "Made because no other Quickdraw can do it."

Twin AC/10, slow XL engine, large laser.

The skill tree shown is dated (and has been replaced with a far more comprehensive tree, but it shows that all I had was Heat Containment [more max heat] and Cool Run [faster cooling]
This isn't a case of being super powerful, just a case of showing up at the right time when so many enemies are weakened and surrounded, and then targeting every weak spot to make quick disables/kills.

Really you could do a lot of things with this. I personally like to use Streaks if I use any missiles at all, as I'm a heavy user of the "Arm" crosshair ( o ) instead of the Torso crosshair ( + ), and lock-on missiles can use either one. LRMs can also use them but if I'm using Autocannon centric builds, the Streaks make a solid anti-light defense. If I'm gearing more against heavies and assaults, a good set of MRMs or strong set of lasers help when used alongside ACs.

In general, it depends on if you want to focus more on speed or firepower. Quickdraws can go pretty fast or hit pretty hard but they are not terribly good at doing both together.

Here's a really basic rapidly hitting, reasonably speedy Light Engine build using twin UAC/5s, a Light PPC and an AMS to help protect you against the LRM rain you might experience. While untested on the IV, I've done similar builds with standard engines on bigger heavies with good success. It's a little weak on anti-light defense, though. If you find them to be a pain you might drop the added punch of the Light PPC and throw a pair of medium lasers or a MPL and ML in the center torso.

Rear armor can be dropped lower when you're confident enough to keep people from getting behind you.

I'll second the Mouse DPI.

I don't mess with the in game ones, I use the software for my mouse/keyboard to turn down the DPI that way.
Generally use just the lowest 3 settings on it. 800(on keyhold only), 1500, 2600, 3700.

It may be awkward at first, but learn to use your arms unlocked. Even if you don't have weapons in them, they can still be used to block some incoming damage.

You can generally lower the rear armor on most mechs.

You're going to die horribly and out of position. Repeatedly.

Learn to watch for red smoke. particularly after a light mech flyby or yolo medium.

The extra consumable slot is 1SP and will let you carry both a strike, and a coolshot or UAV, depending on mech. OR Coolshot/UAV even. They're in the game, might as well learn to use them like others. You don't get any style/martyr points for NOT using them.

(When arms are unlocked you can take full control of them with left Carl).

The recommended approach is to NOT use the default Arm Lock setup but instead set that button to Toggle Arm Lock. You don't need to hold it then, which makes it much easier to use.

Personally, since armlock off results in faster torso twisting, I only "tap shift" or old shift to turn Armlock on when I need it, and otherwise keep it off.

I also only have to press left CTRL to take direct control of the arms instead of shift + CTRL if they were already on. Fewer buttons to press at once, leaving me free to turn at will instead of locking two fingers to be able to do a basic function.

Torso twists faster to "catch up" to the arms then it does to "track to the mouse."

Um, Kon? CTRL is just freelook. You don't need to use it to target your arms independently when they're unlocked.

Wow, thank you guys so much. I've heard this community was great but didn't expect this many replies. I feel as though I'm getting much better than when I first started in the beginning of the week, not rushing in and dying right from the beginning and taking my time while trying to ping the center torso. This game is great I don't know why it took me so long to find it. Hope to see you all out on the battlefield.

Funnily enough, if you come in looking for help and/or asking questions you'll generally get good responses(Note: Maybe not the response you were hoping/looking for, but a quality one(or a quality response if original is wrong as well)).

Come in hot and salty, well that's different :)

Haha yeah, I play the games for fun not to stress myself out. I like to be positive and constructive with my game time since these days I don't get as much as I'd like. The joys of adulting lol
