Well, going by feeling alone is fine in this case when it kinda is supported by facts, regardless of how it's worded. I mean, they can test it out and if it doesn't work, do more tiny shifts, yeah? Also, didn't the MC MK II pretty much replace the Marauder IIC because of those high hardpoints and sexy as **** yaw while still having similar loadouts and power?
I'm still fairly new, but from what I gathered certain assaults were straight up replacing others because of details such as these. I was pretty much told to not buy the Scorch, or any Marauder once the MC mk II came out... though I guess these changes are for the sake of smaller mechs, not assaults.

They do look at data but they also have an idea for how the game ought to be played, and since they don't share the data and don't tell us how it should be played... #feels
It's not too annoying to me anymore. I was pretty ticked when they used phrases like under-performing without a qualifying/stated standard. Like, under-performing... to what? But whatevs. I ain't mad. I mean... it's free-to-play and you can make a hundred accounts. I started one last week expressly to see what sort of numbers I could get only using trial 'mechs.

Yep. Clans can't operate without their chicken hats.
Currently Clans can do 78 damage with 6 ER ML and 2 Heavy LL without ghost heat or shutting down. All this at only 14 tons.
Closest thing IS has without triggering ghost heat is 60 with 6 ER ML and 3 LPL all at 27 tons. Not to mention nearly twice the range for the Clans.
Post nerf it'd be 59 damage Clan to 60 damage IS without hitting ghost heat at 16 tons to 27 tons and even better range.
Or risking a measily 3.7 extra ghost heat on top of a minor bit for an extra ER ML the Clans could net 66 damage for what would effectively be 60% heat on a 15 DHS build with no skill tree. Meanwhile the IS would get hit with (and currently do) 7.06 extra heat just to bring that IS 60 damage to 65, post patch... so the Clans STILL win the laser vomit war post nerf. But it would've been a lot more fair.

That's probably what they were thinking. That it would bring them closer together. While still leaving some wiggle room technically.

They should be aware of Clan mechs ( lights especially ) that will suffer because of the nerfs, more than the bigger clan mechs which can have room for diversity.
The problem is that mechs IS and Clan that will be hit by such kind of nerfs and are utterly dependent on the nerfed weapons, will become harder/ useless to perform well in.
