So i was looking for a new toy to play around in and i came across the Supernova Boiler. I glanced at the loadout and looked again, same loadout as a King Crab. Im like holy freakaziod! It's a IIc! I just had to buy it!

What if I were to tell you that the base Supernova is literally a redesign of the King Crab, and it only had lasers due to ammo shortages?

Well the Supernova's lore does state:

A second-line Clan 'Mech feared by many Inner Sphere pilots, the Supernova seems to be an advanced version of the Black Hawk, though it was actually developed before that venerable OmniMech. Plans to replace the King Crab's loadout with clusters of Large Lasers grew from a shortage of autocannon ammunition. The first prototypes met with little success due to the King Crab's integral Ferro Fibrous armor, but gave rise to a lighter and leaner new design.

So yea it is effectively a King Crab IIC.

Except the KingCrab is not in anywhere near how tanky the SVN is.

I have to double check but I think the King Crab has slightly more armor to play with than the Supernova, and their both the same width. If anything its likely due to the range most SNV pilots prefer that gives them that survivability.

The King Crab's torso is way bigger than the Supernovas, which is its problem - All three of its Torso hitboxes are easy to isolate. The Supernova isn't so easy to focus down.

Neither one is very tough either way, of course.

I actually tried setting mine up sorta like a KGC. 2 UAC20s, 3 ERMLas, ArtiLRM15.
Pretty happy with the results.

Maybe in depth but side to side it feels just about as wide.

Of course, like most IICs the SNV is a different weight than it's ancestor, in this case 10 tons smaller (and thus a smaller target).

And it's very easy to see a King Crab IIC superimposed over the Boiler-plate here. It's explicitly a KGC throwback,

(note: not even close to optimized but neither is a stock Boiler)

Oh, I actually have a Boiler thanks to enough MC being scraped together, I'm a big fan of the Supernova and the -A specifically. If I was channeling my totem Crab here, it'd probably look like this:

https://mwo.smurfy-n...5e7cf1714d143e6

But if I really wanted to work it seriously on MWO, it's gonna look like this:

If you'd rather have the lasers reach out with the UAC's, an HLL works just fine as a replacement.

No one is more skeptical of the fact that the Boiler is a better heavy metal?

If you think that's a lot of ammo, you should see my MadCat Mk2 with 16 tons of LRM ammo and all ammo quirks.. 3500+ missiles aboard.. enough for 2 waves in FP, but have been known to use them all up in Qp..

Nope, it has nothing to do with range.

I own I think 5 variants of the Supernova and I can tell you that range has nothing to do with because you can set up a brawl build on a Supernova and it will handle itself just fine at short to mid range.

The reason it is more durable is quite simply the fact that the Supernova just flat out has better hit boxes. In fact in alot of ways it is very similar to the Marauder and Marauder IIC in that the area where the STs and CT meets isn't easily identifiable which makes it very easy for the Supernova to wiggle its nose and spread damage to all 3 torso sections with ease. It also has a very narrow CT hit box.

The King Crab on the other hand, has alot more armor due to quirks but the geometry of the King Crab makes it very easy to determine what is CT and what is ST and the CT hitbox is probably twice the size or larger than that of the Supernova making it much easier to core in the heat of battle.

I tend to ride the fire button on those a lot. Given, that build was pre-skill nodes, I'd cut down after getting magazine.

Why not to make it really optimized?
7 empty slots, no endo/ferro (both are 7 slots each) and no max engine... makes no sense.

Most likely never, I don't think they are selling mech pack heroes separately, but you can still buy it in-game with MC and MC is on sale at Store and so is Boiler in-game store.
