Here's a post for all you daydreamers out there..

If you were a Game Developer, had a big budget, and wanted to design a mech-centric game, what kind of a game would you make, what would it have, what kind of features, and how would you go on about it?

To make the answers a bit less ramble-y, and structured, answer in the following format:

1) Name of the Game

2) Game type (PVP, PVE, PVE with multiplayer, PVE with COOP, PVP with PVE elements)

3) View type (1st person / In-cockpit simulator, 3rd person, top-down)

4) Is the game community driven or story driven?

5) Is the game mech-centric only (like MWO) or person centric but about mechs (Like Star Citizen is about spaceships)

6) Is it F2P (free to play), P2W (pay to win), or P2P (pay to play)

7) Is it online, offline, offline but must connect to play?

8) Basic game concpet - what is the game about?

So here's an example of my answers:

1) Emberverse ™ (RPG setting I'm working on)

2) PVE with COOP

3) 1st person / In-cockpit simulator

4) Story driven

5) Person centric but about mechs

6) P2P

7) Offline

8) The game is about special operatives that use mechas (small mechs akin to power armor) to fight rebelled A.I., aliens, and human wars alike.

Post your own!

The only solid thing I know I want, and would make if I were capable, would be a Powered Armor game with a mechlab level of customization. That includes lots of cosmetic and archetype options (everything from the exoskeleton stuff the military is working on now, to Iron Man-level stuff, all the way to Fallout-style huge bulky power armored suits) to suit different playstyles. Beyond that, eh.

1) Balls of Steel - The Merchwarrior RPG

2) PvP with PvE elements

3) 1st person

4) Story and community driven

5) Person centric

6) F2P with ingame advertisement

7) Online

8) Character development with RNG based Mechcombat within a living universe

There's the game currently developed, which supposed to have everything I'm looking for, so there's no need for me to daydream about it, and this game is MW5. I'm really-really hyped about it, and want it to be glorious.
*Please PGI, don't mess this one up!*

I'd call it: Hunter - Killer
FPS
PVP - Stars by weight
FP
A Lot like MW4 where you bid for and take contracts to kill high value targets
F2P but, like all games you can buy in

It takes the mercenary concept and adds in the cost back story... A MW4 clone.

Mechwaifu-Online. Harem romance game, in a mech academy settings, where you seduce mechs in order to ride them. And then you face other players with your collection of waifus in a Pokemon styled combat.

I wouldn’t use dice game balance for an FPS. I also would make sure shooting things was a priority over sitting behind a rock over-heating on a stable easy to develop on engine.

So I would start with very basic common sense.

Why stop at just a computer game? I'd make a table top game too, and shamelessly rip off BattleTech, but set the timeline in the distant future to not make it too obvious - say, the 62nd century? Then I'd call the 'Mechs something different, like Cogs. Finally, just like MechWarrior, I'd have the Cog name in the title. I reckon Massive Cog would do.

F2P, P2W, P2P are all the same damn thing. Freemium garbage, unless your Valve, Blizzard, or CD Projekt.

If I were a Mech Warrior game dev with a big studio the first priority would be to make a PREMIUM game. Multiplayer would just be an addon with every single 'Mech available to toy with, like any other past game with dedicated servers and actual lobbies. Dev time would be spent on content, and not wasting time on trying to 'balance' the Multiplayer portion with board game statistics (it has barely worked in any MW game, abstraction in FPS format makes more sense) - the community can figure it out, mod it, whatever.

No, they aren't. P2P and F2P in particular are quite literally opposites.

Battletech: Legacy of the Inner Sphere

It would have massive MP battles, maneuvering for tactical and economic advantages on a giant map of the Inner Sphere, and each class of mech would have specific advantages and disadvantages.

It would be First person only in the simulation portion of the game, and there would never be coolant flushes. There would be a Mechlab and mechs would have weapon specific hardpoints to limit loadouts and boating.

I would support this all with four Columns, pillars if you will, that the game would remain true to;

Mech Warfare
Role Warfare
Community Warfare
Information Warfare

You know, basically what PGI told us we would have.

1) Name of the Game
Battletech: Rise of the Scavengers!

2) Game type (PVP, PVE, PVE with multiplayer, PVE with COOP, PVP with PVE elements)
PVP, moving to PVP with PVE elements, but it's alot cheaper to get the game out first and worry about AI after.

3) View type (1st person / In-cockpit simulator, 3rd person, top-down)
1st person, but dependant on the unit, you may have some more options available.

4) Is the game community driven or story driven?
Yes

5) Is the game mech-centric only (like MWO) or person centric but about mechs (Like Star Citizen is about spaceships)
Technically, I'd do a combined arms person centric with mechs, vehicles, aerospace

6) Is it F2P (free to play), P2W (pay to win), or P2P (pay to play)
I'm actually rather happy with MWOs process, so I'd prolly do that, F2P with pay for early unlock an cosmetics.

7) Is it online, offline, offline but must connect to play?
To do PVP you hafta do online, but I think allow for offline Skirmish or training.

8) Basic game concept - what is the game about?
Surviving the Succession wars, with actual combined arms, infantry eventually (I'd wanna do a sorta player lead Ai platoon with re-spawns as surviving platoon members.) Also I'd love to use the classic Battletech weapon profiles. You know, 3 shot whirlwind AC5 being just one of many AC 5 options. Lords Light PPC acting differently than a Magna Hellstar having a different firing profile than a Donal, and so forth.
