Since I am new I don't a lot about the clan stuff etc. Just tried a search for the clan crab but didn't get much.

I LOVE my crabs (did I say that too loud?)... Just finished getting them to the master tier and grinding XP for that last upgrade. I had a champion crab but made a mistake selling it bc I thought it didn't count towards variants..... wished I had that MC back...

So, I have seen a few crabs that are (L) and a guy said it is a clan crab. I watched him in spectate and really liked his setup and speed. I looked through all the factions and rewards for ranks but didn't see where you get one of these?

So that is my question.... how do you obtain something like this.... also, are the "C" weapons better? How do you earn those?

Thanks in advance.

The (L) means it is a loyalty reward mech. What the pilot probably said or meant was that he purchased one of the clan packages early on and later was rewarded with that free King Crab.

I've got one as well for purchasing MC and ordering the first Resistance package.

The King Crab is an inner sphere mech, not a clan mech.

"C" in front of a weapon means clan technology. They can only be mounted on clan mechs. Generally, clan weapons are lighter, take up less space, have greater range, and do more damage than their inner sphere counter parts.

To balance out all of those advantages, clan lasers burn longer, generate more heat, missiles stream out, and auto-cannons fire in bursts.

You have to own a clan mech to mount clan weapons. If you want to give them a try, you can run one of the several clan trial mechs. Just click the top tab over to trial and clans in your mech select screen.

Crabs and King crabs are unique to the Innersphere.

But many clan mechs have similar design aesthetics with low profile "fighter jet" like fuselages for torsos.

One that is most like the crabs in the current game is probably the heavy "ebon Jaguar." Its kind of a middle ground between the 50 ton crab and 100 ton king crab.

The direwolf is essentially a clan king crab. Same general function (massive dakka.)

Clans don't really have that much of an analogue for the clans in the medium weight bracket at this time.

- Storm crow is more of a well rounded "strike" mech due to its speed. (still a very good chassis though.)
- Shadow cat is more like a jumping cicada then a crab, but it can mount similar laser spam builds and is much more zippy (but much more frail as well.)
- Nova has the crab's durability right now, but its model is over scaled at the present time. Although a re-scale should be coming in a few months apparently, so might be good to get a jump start. It has the durability, but its a MUCH bigger target, lower slung arms, and while jump capable, has limited options at its disposal in some regards.

If your looking for a future clan mech that might fit the crab "role" within the clan tech side, keep an eye out for the "Black Lanner" omnimech might be your cup of tea.

It would be really cool to see something like a Crab IIC. Clans had CRBs from the exodus that stayed in service, I'm sure some Clan crackpot had an idea or two to "modernize" them.

The Nova is basically a Crab IIC (it is to the Supernova as the Crab is to the King), or at least the closest we're getting.

Hell of a necro, though.

Raising the dead is against the rules.
