well he did say he was having no issues running Battletech which defiantly takes a better system than this game.

OP: the other thing i was thinking, Perhaps you need to run some microsoft updates. Maybe your .net definitions are out of date or something. So outside of driver issues, aka motherboard most likely you could have some missing windows item you need. Just a guess..

again DXdiag to support is what you need to do.

Try purging any background running utilities that access your video hardware. ie temperature monitors and FPS overlays.

Some of it is a pain to remove, like MSIs bloatware.

i can never remember off the top of my head. ive owned so much hardware over the years that its all become one long blur of alphaneumerics. then again its not like its hard to find out looking at the device manager.

No potato. I've been with this game since before launch and this is third computer I'm running it on. When I went and bought it, I took my roomie, the computer expert, to talk tech with the guy are Fry's, and just tell me from there what to spend. I followed his lead. Simple.

I had rainbow colors before a Bluescreen (or just rainbow, depends) when I pushed the GPU too hard with an overclock.

So maybe its the GPU?
I mean obliviously not being overclocked, but the cause giving strange colors pointing to the GPU.

Bad hardware can happen, shrugs.
I had to RMA brand new RAM 3 times in a span of 12 years or so.

Btw, did you actually install drivers?
Windows 10 comes with good enough stock drivers, but installing the right set of (and up to date) drivers is usually best.

Also if its a pre build, off the shelf system then maybe try and remove all bloatware.

And that's absolutely fine, as long as your not gaming with it

sounds like graphics card or mainboard driver issue

I had this same problem when I built my I7 8th gen with a 1080gtx graphics card. Turned out that MWO really revs up your graphics card and produces massive heat. So basically my computer was shutting down due to the heat. I manually rev'd up all my fans on the case and manually max'd out the fans on the graphics card and it solved the problem. Hopefully that helps.

That's strange, i had the opposite problem with my GTX 1070, it refused to even boost clock with MWO because Nvidia's drivers didn't deem that MWO needed more power

Your claim of "No potato" means nothing, because you still have not told us specification.

Come on man, figuring out spec is VERY BASIC SKILL for operating computer, not just for games.

type "dxdiag" on your windows search bar at the bottom left corner, hit enter, say "yes" if it asks whether you want to check digitally signed or something.

It will fire up DirectX info, the very first you can see is processor, and if you look at the upper left you will be able to see "display" tab, where name and information of your graphic card (called "device" at the display tab.)

Tell us name of your CPU and the name of the graphic card, then we can start from here.

You can also get your system info from Steam under the help menu.

Or you activate v-sync (or in nvidia case, adaptive), though I'm guessing you are not using a 144Hz display
Also this is not even close to what OP wrote.
He is seeing lots of rainbow colors, that reminds me of an overclock gone wrong back in the day, so while most likely a GPU issue, too much heat or too much power draw will just make the system shut down.

Also I would've expected your GPU to throttle extremely before shutting down.

Might be the exact opposite issue
You have v-sync (or g-sync) on? On a display with a 60 to 100Hz range?

If it doenst need to render more than 60fps for 60Hz then it won't boost obviously.

If the card is maxed out, but fps is still low it's probably more the CPU throttling you

This was when I first got the GTX 1070 2 years ago, and the nvidia drivers defaulted to "optimal power". I got rid of that and it was fine. I play at 144hz, v-sync off (no g-sync)

Yeah I love having to check that it's set to max power instead of "optimal".
I'd appreciate it in a laptop, but a desktop?

I'd recommend all those who don't have a clue leaving this thread. You guys do more harm then good, tbh.

OP, you meantioned your system is freezing and ranbow colors when running MWO.

Press Windows+R to open the run dialog, enter eventvwr (or eventvwr.msc) and press OK.

Look up system and critical error log (check the time when your system was freezing up.
Doubleclick on the event and see description. There will be an error code (for example 0xc00000e) you can look the specific code up on google (support.microsoft.com is your best adress).

If there is no event logged for the time your system hung up, it is most likely your RAM (the ram is in charge to save eventlogs).

Work from there, or get advice from your roomie.

I might not have much of a clue

but I had similar problems when I first started with this game
in fact the reason I came on the forum in the first place was to try to get the game to work

I have spent more money trying to play this game then on the end game content
I even sent my GTX 650 in for repair while I was waiting I bought an AMD card
the GTX 650 came back with nothing wrong with it

anyways OP good luck

Appreciated.
Randomly tossing in "advices" from so many people is only causing confusion.
OP needs to identify his specific problem, windows has as build in mechanic (event manager) to do just that.

If you didn't fresh install MWO and or copied over your user config you might have a video setting that's not jiving with your new card or config.

I know it's a pain to set everything up fresh but I've cured more than one issue by blowing away the config files a starting fresh...

i have a script to migrate settings to new windows installs. i dont like how windows gives you a place to put your stuff and then craps all over it with its own endless file spew. so i used junction points to direct desired locations to a drive more under my control. if windows goes tango uniform i can delete the whole damn partition without loosing anything. im still downloading mwo so i guess thats something to look out for.
