The last 2 days, I have dropped into QP games I was sure we would win only to get curb stomped. I tried calling a game of Domination on Alpine Peaks. All we had to do was just peek enough to get locks but stay behind the rock wall. We were up on Kills. The enemy team split off 4 members to flank us. We handled that well. Then people started poking and getting hurt. I call for us to pull back. Some emmo kid says to push. I suggested we wait. He said I was passive. I threw up my hands and said I was done. The match went into the toilet soon after. We could have won but what do I know?

QP tactics are crap lately. This frustrates me immensely.

Yea, it's part of the reason I've been doing faction play more. If I can get in a group with a core of 4-5 solid guys, it's a lot more fun than quick play.

Wish I could be on the Red Team and watch the Blue team not be able to find their own backsides with a mining light and both hands. One genius said focusing fire was passive they need to push. Push into an ambush where the other team focuses fire BRILLIANT!!!

I truly despise the guys that are always yelling for a "push". Push means suicide into the enemy lines 99% of the time in quick play, or nascar around the side leaving assaults to die to the enemy nascar, and almost never results in a win.

Just try to survive for a while. If you're a brawler, chill until the enemy actually gets close enough. If you've got range, try to SLOWLY move up and get some shots in. People that just rush blindly to their deaths annoy me.

When they tried to push us they did it in 1-3. We were beating the dog mud out of them. We did the same thanks to an emmo keyboard Rambo, we got spanked and had no dinner.

Hmm, I am a very mediocre pilot, but looking at your stats tells me there is a lot of room to improve yourself.

Stats do not tell the full story. Can they tell you how many times I bought a new machine and was skilling it or had a team that thought coordination and communication are OP. None of us are perfect. We all are works in progress.

Yeah, I am running currently an old amd phenom 2 because my mainboard of my intel died. Now I came from 60-140 fps to 15-40 fps and it makes a difference.
But even now I avoid any kind of lock on weapons in this game because they are not reliable.
You know they are doing dmg. but the spread is worse then my aim on low frames.
Some smart ppl are saying the battle starts in the mechlab, where many are failing. It is not about meta, it is about bringing stuff what is reliable.
In general you can say the team with less lurms wins. Even on polar if your team is playing smart.
And about the thing with the push: if a team push with everybody pushing and not running in an organized firingline (on qp very rare) then you should win. If some ppl hold back on the push, the team is losing of cause. Even if you or other are sitting in a lrm boat you have to push yourself to share the armor and make the push work.
So yeah, in other words if you let pushing teammates die, because you are holding back, you are doing it wrong.
Sorry, but holding back on a ridge and let just lurms fly over it is not a good tactic at all.
But yeah communication is important, but it does not replace bad tactics.If you look at better teams for example, they are using always agressive tactics but they pick the right timing for their pushes.
Try to watch videos from good groups or even better, ask some of their players for advice and training, then you can improve a lot. Don´t think thy are just tryhards and don´t care about bad players, they are usually helping even us scrups to get better.
After a while you will be able to adopt these tactics and gameplay and also you will be able to provide more help to your team.
Belive me, also good players are not happy to farm every match, they like close matches with a challenge even more then us.

I would argue that the pushing teammates are doing it wrong. While a well-executed push will often win (do a faction play drop with EVIL or any good team, it's literally a race to get in first to do damage before everything is dead) it relies on everyone working together, and everyone being in good mechs that have good pilots. You cannot guarantee ANY of that in a random quick play, so pushing is often a very bad move. It's best to sit back and trade at range, and only push when you have a decisive advantage. If your team tries to push, it's very rare that the entire team actually does it. If you follow a call to push, all you're doing is ensuring you follow a doomed player and even more people die. I've learned that it's foolish to try to save a person making a dumb move, all that ends up there is an extra person dead.

Holding back doesn't mean lurming though. Ideally it means using ~500 meter ranged direct fire weapons like AC5's or AC2's, Large Lasers, Gauss Rifles, ER Medium Lasers, ect to hit the enemy when they expose themselves to shoot at you, without getting shot back, or at least winning the trade. If you do see guys pushing, you can shoot at enemies that expose themselves to shoot at the guys that are pushing. If it sounds like using other guys as armor... well... it is. Ideally they would wait until the guys with range drop 2-3 of the enemy before pushing to ensure victory, but if they insist on suiciding into an enemy firing line (which is really common unfortunately) you can at least make their deaths mean something.

I am not holding back. I LRM as I advance or to soften up the enemy.

Some good tips to follow OP -

1. Follow the NASCAR. Be in the middle of it if you can help it. I hate NASCARing but it's a necessary evil in QP.

2. Do not be afraid to trade if your build is focused on high alpha and taking cover. Of course, don't trade against a firing line, but in QP, people rarely form one, so it's usually a safe thing to do.

3. If you got General Patton on your team trying to make calls like...Giving up the high ground to catch one mech out of position...Try and convince the team to not move. This usually doesn't work, but I can't stress this enough that a height advantage in a walking tank simulator has more benefits than cons. If people are chasing that mech or whatever the bad call is...Just follow and cross your fingers.

4. If your team is up six kills and most of you are in the present area/grid. Call for a push and end it. Sometimes four can seal the deal too but stupid stuff can happen.

5. There is no such thing as kill stealing. Kill it if you see it.
However, if the mech is a stick, no weapons or is out of ammo IE - Not firing, pick a different target.

6. Flanking is a good thing. Staying in one spot for the entirety of the match is not.

7. Mute people if they're abundantly annoying. Or just turn off VOIP. I know this is counter intuitive in a game that is suppose to be "team based," but most people are not willing to work as a team or incapable of it even if they claim they are doing it.

8. Treat every game mode as skirmish. Rarely do people win from objectives alone aside from Escort.

9. Use your artillery strike/air strike in a meaningful way. IE - You or a buddy being swarmed by lights? Call an arty on yourself or them. You can tank the hit, the lights can't.
Don't use it on that one poptarting shadowcat that will likely outrun it before the salvo hits.

10. Have fun. It's a game of big stompy robots. Break open a case and just laugh at how some people can get worked up over nothing.

#5 I had a guy curse at me because they drove three battered enemy Mechs into the guns of my fresh dakka/ Laser Vomit Direwolf. I shredded them like lettuce.
