Whatever gets new players to play and most importantly stay to play longer is a good thing. I blew that x-mas free mc and some mc from recent events on two heroes I wanted. I wish pgi would combine the two dragon heroes into a double dragon pack. The price of fang and flame combined at normal mc price is way out of my limited budget. I got Skement and Hi There as my most recent mc mechs. got a normal bushwacker last night for c-bills. I'm so broke in game now.

I have blown through real money like a drunken sailor at his first free port in 9 months. I need MC to finish skilling 2-3 more Clan Mechs or Omnimechs plus I still have several heroes on the wish list plus the Blood Asp Standard Pack. Ouch, I think I need my head examined.

The ramp up of the sales to coincide with both Battletech and Solaris7 and then to retain and get investment from all yhe new players is pretty obvious. This is also partly in preparation for Mw5 at the end of the year. I noticed a decent uptick of MW5 coverage when battletech/solaris7 launched.
There is also now so much content (yes mechs/cosmetics is content) that they can have many back to back sales of large amounts of that content with much more still at normal prices. get people into the store and they might like the look of some mechs not on sale or hero mechs.
I dont thing the HG stuff has nothing to do with it or preparing for the last push for MW5 but I also dont think that or the 'ever impending death' of MWO is a factor, despite what the most bitter of bittervets say. Like it or not (and they sure as heck dont lol) MWO is doing fine, probably better than fine. According to PGI there is at least another 3+ years in MWO.
Heck, hopefully part of this increased monetization push is to prepare for MWO2. A guy can dream.

After spending as much time and real money on this game. I do not even want to think about it being gone. My hope is things keep going and even improve. I would like to see more missions, maps, fixes we have talked about for years, etc.

What you said about having it all coincide with BT and Solaris 7 is probably the case. The crazy amount of mech sales conciding with the Solaris 7 launch only makes sense, as with the division system they set up some “bad” or “not so great mechs” are needed for the lower divisions.....the whole idea of Solaris meta usually means bringing a mech that wouldn’t be amazing for QP or FW. So, you need 1v1 specialist mechs. I know I started buying a lot more mechs right when Solaris launched. What I think PGI didn’t anticipate was that I (and many others) wouldn’t stick with Solaris much. But these events and sales may well have been planned months ago to be in support of the Solaris launch.
The amount of development they put into Solaris alone indicates they are committed to MWO. It’s a good mode for what it is...just few really want to play it. The social element of units and the idea of larger scale mech battles (12 v 12 vs. 1 v 1) is what makes MWO special. They are supporting Solaris and should considering the effort and money they just spent....they just bet the wrong horse by giving the community what PGI wanted to give (and it is nicely done) instead of putting more time into modes like FW which lots of players (including those who have left the mode, due to issues with it) would like to see work better, but where success in development by PGI has been...well....”challenging” in terms of ideas and actual implementation. Heck, just think of the number of maps and modes we could have gotten for QP with the time and resources they spent on developing Solaris from scratch.

Sales were not common at first, but there weren't many things to put on sale either. Not to mention, that was all done by IGP for the first year or two.
Once PGI took over, they still didn't have more frequent sales because of the UI until they worked on those systems to make it even easier for them to inject content. Remember when they had to take the game offline just to change prices? Now they've gotten all that streamlined.
Sales seem more generous lately, but I think part of that is perception because more things are on sale at a time and it's almost always mechs. I don't remember seeing any color sales lately.

I don't ever remember this many sales consecutively. When i first started playing MWO they had 1 mechbay sale a year and hero's maybe twice a year. There seems to be a perpetual sale going on now. They've also been extremely generous with free mechs/bays/MC etc. Seems like a clothing store going out of business having flash sales.
Sales are a great way of generating profit, especially if your merchandise is digital and already complete..
it's not like selling saaaay, jeans - jeans cost X number of $$ to make, each time.. with a digital product, like a mech, it costs X $$ to make - once. Every other time you're selling it, its pure profit..
So when they do a 40% sale on a mech that nobody would buy otherwise, it's not that they are giving you something, it's not altruism.. it's pure enhancing of sale.. except they get 40% less income..
But since -40% of zero is still zero for mechs that nobody is buying, it's actually +60% income for them when they appear to be "cheaper" and people start buying them again..

We need more $500 gold plated mechs.

40% sale of a 5000 MC mech is still 3000 MC, which is still $15.
For one mech.
That's made from a skin that's been used at least three other times.
But part of me is still saying *BUY IT*. And we're questioning whether it's because of generosity or cash flow issues? I'm not convinced it's either, but simply because they can, and it works.
I'd do exactly the same, then I'd go for a swim, Scrooge McDuck style...
