Lately the map keeps my sound crashing in that at the start the sound is well, then when fireing the first shot all sounds stop and I only get a constant tone that goes loud, quiter, loud, quiter...like a WoW WoW WoW.

Only way to stop it is quitting MWO and restarting it. Anyone else has this problem?

Yes, I also discovered it yesterday. just happened to me the second time. Didnt figure another way than restarting yet either. Its really annoying.
