Quick Play And 8V8

From a logistics/match making perspective, 8v8 has numerous advantages including faster team creation for both solo and group play in the match maker, faster connection times (less ‘Mechs being loaded), improved framerate, improved memory usage and less taxing on your local CPU.
From a player organization perspective, 8v8 means less management headaches getting 8 players together rather than 12, deck building would have a much higher impact in terms of what ‘Mechs are fielded and how they’re played. The ability to be carried through to victory is less likely due to the fact that in an 8v8 scenario, every ‘Mech matters more.
The drawbacks affect the game in a different way and are just as important. We would be losing the feel of full divisional combat (12 ‘Mechs in 3 lances). Switching to 8v8 will not be a simple switch and team size reduction. UI, Match Maker, Economy, game mode adjustments, map adjustments, etc. A switch to 8v8 will also impact on our ability to address other parts of the game such as Faction Play.
Overall, we would be looking at covering all team size areas via the following:
* 1v1 and 2v2 are covered in Solaris 7.
* 4v4 in Scouting
* 8v8 will be covered in Quick Play and Comp Play.
* 12v12 will be covered in Faction Play.
So the big question is, and the reason for this poll, would you like to see Quick Play switch to 8v8?

Also wouldn't a change like this also force a change in some of the maps? Some of the bigger maps may need to be reduced in size because less mechs means more ground to cover and there are a few times I can go entire scouting matches without even seeing the enemy till the end.

1) Enter queue as group of 10.
2) System decides to switch to 8v8.
3) Might as well paint the livingroom while waiting.

While we are going back to how it was, can we also bring back Predator vision? that was the best.

Further, recent failures to balance mechs and to make Solaris 7 worth playing have made me skeptical of the company's ability to balance mechs for 8v8, and to make the proper economy adjustments for 8v8.
Frankly, the change would make QP even worse than it already is. Leave it and work on other aspects of the game.

As an option, just like server/region selection

Adding more player buckets to split the population? I'd rather not.

With less people in the game, the chances of a disco are lower - so it would even out to about the same rate, IMHO.

Let's trial it for a month, so people can give it a fair chance.

Right now it's checking interest. Russ has mentioned before that he'd want an overwhelming response if we were to move ahead with it.

I say with 8 players, my odds of a disconnect drop considerably, as there's two-thirds of the possible chances for it to occur.
And considering how many times I have sat there staring at a win screen with 4-5 solo kills wondering if the rest of the team simply decided to watch, anything that magnifies my carry power is appreciated.
Leave 12v12 to group queue and make solo QP 8v8, with 2/2/2/2 (Alpha light/medium, Beta heavy/assault), broadening things to 4/4/4/4 and then 6/6/6/6 if need be if a failure to match occurs after a set time period, much like the recent alterations to solo queue.

And, when 8v8 is active, bring back the older maps for those matches. Original FC, RC, FC, etc. Shouldn't be terribly difficult to link those maps to 8v8 matchmaking.
