we should be looking at how to get groups together.

We all know that 90% those that are will/able already do this.

Those that say "groups or nothing", I don't share that precise sentiment. I *prefer* a group, but I don't have to have it, personally. Sometimes it's actually quite liberating to not be in a group and drop as fast/often as one likes...

But if things have to black or white, the mode will die. This is why I was only suggesting during off-peak hours having no groups. Most of us group up during peak hours why? B/C that when you have the greater likelihood of facing other groups. During off hours, too often it is rather one sided as a lot of the Mercs and larger groups shift from side to side, many times to the same side.

So unless you *only* group up now during off-peak hours, how would such a suggestion be so terrible? I know there are some people that relish in curbstomping pugs, but I really don't ascribe to that either...

Still no.

Right now we have the freedom to do whatever and that is how it should stay. The problem is not the groups it's players who refuse to play as a team. Not all soloists are such players, but again no need to cater to them as there is quickplay.

Also I am not saying anything that approaches black or white. You are suggesting restrictions which most of us will fight tooth and nail for many reasons. Time zones and population being one of them. There is no sweet spot you can put group bans in that won't screw over players who want to join up. Again the mode is focused on teams so it doesn't make any sense to cater to those who are against teams and complain that they get beat when matched up against them.

Practical and sensible solutions such as trying to figure out how to get teams together more efficiently makes more sense, considering teams do have success....

This mode is not designed for pug experience, quick play is. The mode has already been gutted and is worse than what we had in phase one and two. No more changes based on solo players.

So lets start asking what is practical that can be done to try and get people together. An official PGI TS or Discord perhaps that is well publicized in game might be a way to get folks together. We need more discussion and ideas to get team mode to be played as such. It's time to put to rest concerns over the solo experience, as again there is quickplay for that.

PGI won't make TS/Discord when they have a 'functioning' VOIP in game. We need the in-game VOIP to be more functional.

Even if PGI did add TS/Discord, I would never use it. Not to mention they would have to have admins there 24/7. Logistically, not that feasible.

Not you specifically, someone else earlier in the thread said something to the effect of "force everyone to group up and if the mode dies, I'm fine with it"

I would agree with this. But we've been talking practical and sensible solutions for how many years now? Again, I am not disagreeing, grouping up is much more effective, by a long shot. Having said that, the *REAL* OP mechanic is waaaay more than being in a group. It is familiarity with your teammates to the point that you don't even need comms half the time.

Those that suggesting making everyone group up would find that perhaps some would join groups, but nothing else would change...

Gah, what was I drinking this weekend that I came up with this idea in the first place... Probably something TWIAFU or PUG gave me...

How do you handle multi-national player groups and define 'peek-times'?

What if I happen, for example, belong to a Unit that spans the globe from the Americas, Canada, UK and EU, Asia and Australia.

Who's peek time are we allowed to group in?

Okay, now I don't have access to any actual data to show "from X until Y only ~30 people are playing FP" or anything like that. From a NA-perspective, it's pretty quiet when I log in at 8:30AM until 10:30-11AM, I'm guess even earlier than that. So granted, that data is rather anecdotal, but I doubt PGI would ever admit that there is ever a time frame where things are "slow" even though we know it is...

Just wondering if it would make sense to prevent groups from dropping in FP during "off-times"...

I have no idea if this could be implemented, but if there was only pug vs pug in those times when one side usually can't even muster a full team, it may actually attract players during those time periods and players then may actually get a better taste for FP if they are not getting repeatedly curb stomped.

During peak EU & NA hours (SEA?) you would be able to drop in groups.

Terrible idea?

I am understanding your proposal to be aimed at getting a game when it seems difficult to get a full 12 player team together on both sides.
For when wait times are epic.

Instead of altering the type of queue from solo to group and back and forth, wouldn't it be better to give the match maker more flexibility and allow matches with smaller teams?
ie.
4v4
8v8
and still allow for the 12v12

TL:DR My 2 cents, don't read if you don't want a full on opinion.

I'm not that great of a player, but I'm gonna weigh in on this anyway.

I solo all the time in Quick Play, sometimes I do good, other times I don't. It all depends on me AND my team.

I wouldn't want the commitment of Faction Play. I'm a casual. I play for fun. In QP, that is enough because I don't practice a lot, in Faction Play that would be rude.

I give my all when I drop, but my all just isn't good enough for competitive play. I just don't want tot sink the time into a group to play with regularly.

I do really wish we could have only 2 tiers however. A "high" tier and a "low" tier based on stats. With an optional 'Veteran' toggle for people who have played a lot of matches within their tiers. There should be no overlap between these tiers except for an 'Unlimited' option where everyone can be pitted against everyone.

Maybe a "mid" tier would be good, hell I dunno like I said, I'm not that good. I'm not a potato, but I'm certainly not a 'pro'

I've advocated for modular grouping as well...

I spitball, sometimes people spitball back... at high velocity...

Likewise.
'tis the way of things.

Given we are approaching yet another pull of players from the game with MW5 just around the corner, it would make a lot of sense to allow the match maker more flexibility and 'modular grouping' (I like that phrase.) to allow players to still enjoy the mode should it be quiet.

However I can see that to really make it work and ensure that groups don't get excluded, the group limit would have to be changed to a maximum of 4.
We have to consider that you might just miss out on a match, or that there may not be enough players on to form a larger team so we can't have a 5+ player group not able to play because there are only 4 players on the other side.
That said, I can also see a few benefits to limiting the group size to a lance.

Yea, its not like we enjoy dropping with friends or anything. Half the time I do FP drops my group is half full of newer guys, I should totally be punished for being a "stat hunter" because I wanna drop in a large group of people I know aren't idiots.

This is something I wish I could do in FP. No serious unit should want me ; not because I am a lemming with pitbull instincts. Rather because I am in peak season for my job. Mornings and evenings plus time spent care-taking about 4-6 acres. Weekends involve attendance at car shows, drag racing,Sunday School and Church.

The only thing you had to do in case of trying FP is to look for a group to drop with.

Everybody, really everybody can participate in a productive way in FP by only joining a group which is playing at this moment. Just join them, hear what the Caller is saying and try to execute his orders. (go A, wait, kill target)

Thats it. At this point you would be a valuable part of FP.

It's a very bad idea indeed.
It punishes people for playing the way it's meant to be played and rewarding those who come up with xyz reason they can't/won't.

It did... one of the reasons I'm not playing as much anymore... other teammates tend to frown on team damage...

[IDI] was the living embodiment of the opening lines of Twenty One Pilot's "Tear in My Heart":

"Sometimes you gotta bleed to know
That you’re alive and have a soul
But it takes someone to come around
To show you how"
