That is absolutely true. My point is the best won't be around to play stock mode and the leftovers and hold out won't be able to say they are better than Emp.

Are you are absolutely sure that Emp as a team will not be competing in MWOWC, when the time comes?

And that alone makes it worth it. I am sick of seeing the same effing meta for two years straight. If PGI wont do any meaningful balance changes, the least they can do is to come up with something like stock-mode to shake things up--which they did.

Except it will. Because no matter how limited the new roster will be, it will be different from that of past two years, which is all I want to see. I am not gonna compete in MWOWC, so I want good entertainment!

And yet in most games you play you're in the back pugshielding with ERL? Sick of seeing it but not sick of playing it, it seems huh? ;)

Different does not equal good entertainment. That is a totally wayward assumption.

Will have to wait and see I guess. Lots of talk right now and some of the best players are saying that they will not participate. Things may change and some may cool down and competitive drive may get to them.

Of course you already realized that there will be a stock mech meta, and it will almost definitely be laser boats.

Yeonne made a list of suspected meta mechs in the 3039 ruleset:

The winners, or closest to, of the stock 'Mech lottery are:

Light: JVN-10F, JR7-F, WLF-1
Medium: CRB-20, HBK (all), KTO-18
Heavy: TDR-5SS, GHR-5H, WHM-6D, ON1-VA, BL-7-KNT-L
Assault: AWS-8Q

Personally I'd rather use the Wolfie -1A instead of -1 because of heat efficiency, but beyond that there's a lot of lasers in there and notice how the three primary IS laser vomit heavies are still in there...

Actually that is where you and your "5 degrees" are once again wrong.

Teams practiced many strats on various maps in many varying mechs. Why? Because many strategies were possible.
Yes they were only whittled down on 'game day' and even then there were still surprises like Proton in a Dragon & a ERL ACH... Such things actually then filtered into QP as guys played mechs used by the pros.

Stock mode will play out in a less interesting manner than the last two years. Telling you that as a comp player, comp shoutcaster and very active member in that area. Privvy to many discussions and thus far, it's down to ~10 viable mechs already and likely cap strats (which are boring as it gets to watch)... That is half of what it was last year before we even start.

You've never played comp so don't sit there and pretend like you have some idea of what goes on or what is involved.

Well now, do you feel better? I hope so. We all have opinions and I hope PGI survives this silliness.... I could go on but there is little point. Good luck !

Sure, but it will not be the usual laser boats I got bored of watching. No Clan mechs for this year, so that's already far different than before.

I watch MWOWC for entertainment. I play MWO to tryhard. Two very different interests. Besides, I want to see different before I judge if it is better entertainment or not. So I support PGI for at least getting stock mode underway.

Heh. Pgi is making comp players use more IS mechs. I'm sure the comp players will do their twitter cry fest campaign to russ and it'll go back to the normal clan meta. Still if any team can win the mwo with IS only mechs I'm out a lot of money as I'll buy every player on that winning team a standard mech pack of their choice IS or Clan. My rules for them to claim it are thus:

1. Must use IS only mechs. At any point a clan mech is used offer is void to all members on the team.

2. Must qualify for mwo wc with IS only mechs.

3. Must use IS mech for semi finals.

4. Must use IS mechs for the finals.

At least we'll see some lrm use but since strikes are allowed I'm betting we see more damage/kills from strikes than a lrm boat.

Sorry to disappoint but you will not see a LRM useage by the top teams unless they feel like trolling.

Didn't get VOIP until years after launch? Check.
Didn't get a very basic command wheel until years after launch? Check.

I kind of like the idea of stock loadouts. It will make it more interesting and I plan to watch more matches because of it but I understand hesitancy.

And, isn't that the real issue? eSports in this genera is boring as all get out.... Watching grass grow is more exciting..... They practiced on the same terrain and maps for a year; in the same meta mechs; using the same tactics; doing the same things; over and over and over.........yeesh........

That would be fun to watch.....

FFS.. Ever watched marathon running, 50km skiing or any other 'real' sport. So exciting right? Packed with action.

If you dont understand what you are seeing, its quite hard to not get bored. No wonder you dont like competitive mwo, if you dont get the game at all in the first place. How thick can people get for reals.

I actually enjoy watching non-top teams fight due to variety. I do not particularly care if Emp decides not to participate this year due to this stock mode announcement--the 2018 champs do not have to prove that they are better than Emp anyway.

Same thing when I tried to watch Motorsport with a lady friend (and no, not of the sheep kind).

Poor individual had absolutely no idea what was going on, thought it was boring and lasted all of about 10mins as it was just "cars going round in circles". I mean the track wasn't a circle... So it was doomed from the start.

My beef with this whle mess is similar. I am not a competitive fellow, but I like to be entertained and I like to see the game advance and I like to learn something from what I am watching.

Stock mode "world championship" does nothing for any of that besides being potentially entertaining, and only then from an abstract art perspective. We have no stock mode in game so as a player anything I observe in the matches is effectively useless to me. I learn nothing. The game is not advanced. No new builds to find novelty value in, no new techniques in using them other than one in which you are intentionally gimping yourself in the actual game (why would I play the game as it exists with stock and era limited builds when that is not a requirement of any mode in the game?).

This whole stock mode WC is perhaps a fun thing to do in a private lobby, but as thee event for showcasing what this game is all about, what its players can do within its framework, and as an enticement to those not yet playing; it is contrary and frankly stupid, so I sure hope it is entertaining because that is its only potential value to this product.

Let the games begin. I guess.

At the rate of complaints, it wouldn't surprise me if PGI chicken out from this change, as well. They are surprisingly backtracking.

Would it make sense for the Tour de France or Giro d'Italia to suddenly demand that every entrant race with a Penny-farthing? Sure it would be different and certainly have some entertainment value but what does it do to the overall sport?

Or having boxing done bare knuckle and no TKOs.

Or having NASCAR ran with Stanley Steamers.

This would certainly change things, it would certainly make things interesting to some degree but what are we giving up to do this?

Not sure, but as a spectator I prefer change and interesting. Posted Image

Perhaps PGI and some of the players can find a happy medium.

Don't understand Lad? Oh, please, this is a silly game with made up physics and everything else that matters....understanding takes about 10 minutes and since there is seriously nothing special going on here, we have an extremely small niche market....

It's suppose to be fun ! So, it's simple....

It's like watching professional baseball, golf or football as well......boring as hell....the same rules, the same playing map, same old same old... Oh, Gosh, Golf.......(sigh) Commentator: "quiet on the tee box please..." as if the viewing audience could be heard..........geesh....

But there is an important difference: It takes real courage and real skill to play those boring sports... Real, like outside the house, out of the basement and actually dressed in real clothing in the sun real..... Dangerously real...

Geesh, you kids are so full of yourselves...
