First I really enjoy the event because I always play uncommon non meta mechs too and I enjoy to dust off forgotten mechs. Also this event makes some issues this game has very obviously.

1. How crappy the most IS mechs really are.

Most of the time I need only 1 game to obtain 500 Dmg if I play serious. Not this time. I needed 2 games or in some cases even 3! Ok not with the obvious mechs that can be seen outside of events but I never thought the difference was so extreme. Even more so if you consider that on the enemy team where mainly only crappy mechs too!

2. The team with the least event mechs won most of the time.

Maybe it's just my little bubble but in my games it was consistent that winning teams fielded more clan or other mechs then the event ones.

3. Players playing the event tend to have more fun then the ones doing QP like usually

What where your experiences with this event?

What you mean is most event mechs where being used stock. Once an IS mech, is upgraded correctly, it can and will complete with its Clans counter parts. It ruffles my feathers when people say Clan mechs are heads and shoulders better then IS.
If people did their research, fitted correctly and didn't act like potatoes. There wouldn't be a problem.

Well they can compete against the non-meta Clan mechs.

Makes me wonder what Clan mech is the Awesome of the Clans.

I like seeing more variety in the mechs. A much more toned down version of this happening every week could be fun. You know, play four matches in a Centurion for 25 MC or something like that. Nobody will really buy the mechs for something like that and run around with unspecced mechs if the reward is too small but it'd give players a reason to dust off some of their old mechs that they do have.

Edit: Probably a better fit would be a free one shot for that chassis. PGI won't feel stingy because they're not giving away MC, they're giving away a pattern that most people weren't going to buy anyways. I suspect that doing this could also boost sales of colours a bit to which would be a positive effect on PGI's backend. For example, with a few certain colours you can rock the N7 stripe on a lot of mechs with the Raider camo. You can try the default red but you're gonna need to spend MC on black and white, two colours that would be necessary to make a lot of other paint jobs pop. Plus the game just plains looks nicer with more paintjobs out there.

. I own most of the mechs in these challenges. If given a 50% off sale, I would probably do this without any MC attached, and frankly, if I cannot do a challenge in one match, it’s probably more cbills over time to play a competitive mech. Events are good. If they have to cut the MC reward per challenge, I would be cool with that if they made them a weekly thing. I believe they run events less often due to player fatigue and to compete with other things that might take up our time on holidays. It’s better for them if they can get twice as many folks on half as often, it makes the community seem bigger and it’s easier on the matchmaker. One thing they do less of with the new system is give fixed rewards. MC is more desirable to us, but it’s more sustainable if they give us a color, or a bad mech, or a week of premium time, or a mechbay. I remember uav events used to give you UAVs, not MC. Giving a mech is a big deal to a player, but what will happen to the economy if they have more events like this one giving 2350mc and 23,500,000 cbills during at 50% off sale? That’s eight new mechs minimum, more like sixteen if we carry extra mechbays enough to wait for a 50% sale for those.

The event confirmed what I had already knew. They most commonly bring a horde of casual players on unbalanced teams.

It does not help the common irresponsible behavior of some and the still flawed match maker.

Hello losing streaks. Enjoy.

Strange, I've had a ton of really good or close games throughout the event...

i enjoyed running a bunch of mechs i hadnt used in years, some more than others. it even let me rebuild some of them with newtech to try and improve on them. some of them even did well. only mech that was a single game run i think was the urbanmech (loyalty urbie). i fully expect to see urbies in mwowc.

Well, consider yourself very fortunate, losing streaks continue to happen to plenty around here, including very good streamers.

Out of mechbays for now ! Posted Image

This event was fun, really fun. It just proved to me how boring and stale the current Meta is. Then again i like playing a different mech almost every drop.

I would have thought it would have been the Warhawk, since they're both adequate PPC boats.

The Warhawk does fill both roles of the stock Awesome (PPC and LRM boat) neatly. But it's only not "meta" (for the most part) because other things are stronger, not that it itself is weak.

The Gargoyle is the dead weight, "why is that on 95% of battlefields when you could use X" you are looking for.

i miss my spl + erml gargles. pgi ruined it with spl nerfs and putting them into the same gh group for some reason. it was one of the best energy brawlers on the clan side.

I found that the only thing that mattered was which ever side had as someone else pointed out, the most stock mechs. If I die early in a match I take a peak at the other people's builds and holy lord are some of them bad and not all of the worst ones were stock. I have a collection of WTF? builds in a folder that impressed me. For example the single LBX-AC2 ANH that a friend saw is a treasure in that collection.

The side with the most potatoes loses. If you're losing match after match, spend a minute looking around at the other people's builds while you're dead and marvel at the ingenuity and genius you see out there.

The most fun I had in this even was doing 500 damage in a 3 MPL +ECM SDR 5D. The second most fun I had was Solo killing a BLR 1G though the CT with my UM with 3 MPL and 3 HMG, the guy over heated in front of me so I rushed in and stood in front of him because he had his back to a wall on Mining and ended up going all the way through his fresh CT before he could go through mine, our fight left me crit in the CT when he woke up and alpha'd me then went back to sleep before death.

You mean the WHK? Both can go about 60 KPH with most builds and both can lay out the ERPPC hurt. Helps that the WHK is the size of a DWF and the AWS is packing some durability quirks and PPC quirks and endo.

I play a lot of these mechs anyway. :) Ohh it did get me to buy an awesome 8Q, and i love it! so after the event i will certainly be playing it.

So far after the first 2 rounds, (still gotta finish the spider and Zeus) 3 have been one and done, with 2 others just a couple points shy. One missed it by all of 4 points. The rest i've done in 2 with tons of damage to spare. The only mech that took me more than 2 matches was locust and i royally suck with locusts.

Over all my match scores and how i've been doing is about the same, typically around 2-4 in score, sometimes dropping to about 6th if i have a really bad match. So really not much of a change other than seeing other people play many of the mechs i like. The top spot typically alludes me, but i'm ok with that..

It did refresh my memory on some mechs though that i really want to get back in.. like my AC2 Jag, or spend more time in my victors and cicadas and catapults!

it also makes me think that i need to find a fun IS only unit that likes to do FW, i think its time.
