You really should add into your comment mileage may vary, as I had plenty of matches were I was one of two mechs running for the event as we both outdamage most the team mine as "near" stock the other was completely stock.

Example the Zeus I was piloting the only change besides tweaking armor values was replacing the LRM with an MRM 40 and its ammo. Yet in a match with a Deathstrike, a Dual HG Anni, and MK II-B with me in Charlie lance somehow I did the most damage at 359 while the other 3 barely broke 100 damage.

Its really comes down to what Potatoes the matchmaker drops you with; even after they did make some improvements on MM you are likely to find yourself dropped with people who, to put it nicely, would fail even driving a Tractor in the battletech universe. (Lets see who gets the reference)

I had some unexpectedly fun games. I took my Spider SDR-5D out, replaced it's 2 ERLL config with a SNPPC + 2 MPL for the challenge, and actually had a rocking game where I got like 500 damage, and 4 kills. It was pretty great, we were down like 3 mechs, it was like 3 of us vs 6 enemies... and I just went like super sayian, blasting mechs (they must have already had crit CT's) and taking out 3 of them. It was great.

Phoenix hawk played pretty fun as well, though I had to work very hard to get damage in the game I played, I still ended up with a few kills in the 2 games it took to get my 500 damage.

Only mech I didn't really enjoy was the Vindicator. I got the "meta" one with the MRM 40 + HMG's, and it just played like a ******** IVFour.

I learned the surprising truth that I have zero interest in buying new mechs even when a 50 MC bribe is offered as encouragement and I have pleanty of c-bills to make the purchase. I think it is a mix of knowing that whatever I buy PGI will nerf it within weeks, added to the reality of the grind, which post skills tree, I find utterly unfun. Probably a bit of not liking the models on some of the newer mechs has something to do with it too (I just can’t bring myself to buy a Javlin because it is so damn ugly even if it is an awesome SRM boat; just can’t).

It’s nice to learn new things I guess.

Run all the trial mechs and did well with them in the event most times 2 matches needed to get 500 damage .
Even bought some mechs did nothing to them run till i got the 500 damage and sold them off they were standard.
So i know out of experience that i can be done without great afford.
When new to this game i see the difficulty yes it will be hard to get those 500 damage in 2 a 3 games but in 5 should be possible.

last iteration of the event was kind of frustrating, not because the mechs, but because of how combat avoident everyone got. like i was getting to the front in a 40kph highlander first while squirrels are still in the drop zone is something that shouldnt ever happen.

It’s funny, because I wound up with a 500+ damage, 4 kill match in my Spider 5D. I’m starting to think it might not actually be a truly terrible mech for potatoing around in QP. Very fast, very jumpy, very agile, surprisingly tanky, and can run ECM/stealth. It’s undergunned so you gotta work hard for your damage, but otherwise it’s a fun mech.

And yeah, the Vindicator is an impoverished man’s IV4; that’s its thing.

I learned that Grasshoppers love to soak up MRM damage to their CT. In both my MRM (with laser backup, so that did add to the damage) Cyclops and Kintaro I came across a near fresh one. Both of us traded at the same time. They turned my CT orange. Their CT went from near full to gone. Yeah, the side torsos blinks a bit. After that they were running for their lives.

I was in a lot of matches where the result was 12-0 or 11-1 this weekend. I'm going to blame the event for that.

I enjoy this event very much. It is good too see so many non meta mechs, both with you and against you. Sure, those that bring their hellbringers and stormcrows and madcats mop the floor with IS mechs that bring 3 lasers and still overheat because they run with single heat sinks and a slow heavy std engines.

I run the event mechs that I buy (and sell back most of them) with only load out tweaking from my spare parts and without any upgrades. Single heat sinks are by far the most limiting factor, especially if you keep the std engine that leaves very few tons for weapons AND cooling. It is another way to limit laser vomit that is much better than ghost heat. It does not matter if you have 7 laser hard points when you can't sustain even 4 medium lasers.

I did not play this game 4 years ago, but if this is how it was, then the game used to be so much more fun when mechs were much more resource limited.

I learnt that's very very evil dev mounted an XL engine on the trial mech enforcer , and just for laughs put ammo in the head and chest . A very big head and chest .

I agree. IS is severely underpowered. Bring back mega quirks.

I learned my rage has levels that can be gauged by what chassis MWO makes me use for a event. (Jenner = over 9000)

I learned Kintaro is still absurdly oversized.

I learned I still don't like ppcs.

IS mechs suck? Stock, in 3025 trim? Sure. Modded to modern spec, they play just fine.

I played 8-9 games on Sunday, lost one or two, i think, but didn't slow myself down by whipping out a Thunderbolt -7M or my Ceasar Cataphract.

I did my own score tracking for a few drops. Since I had some of the mechs already those ones were pretty easy while the others were pit more hassle. Oddly the first match with the mech seemed to be the best. My results:

phoenix hawk 6x ml build I did two matches 473 and 336 end score. Battlemaster skimped. Javlin skipped. Zeues lrm 10x4 was four matches 265,100,89 and 581 scores. Jager ac 10 ml build was two matches 316 and 428 scores. Stalker lfe ssrm6 x2 4xml 2x lrm10 was one match at 980 end score. Vindicator took five matches heavy ppc er ml build 90,89,300,161 and 110 scores.

Adding my vote to say that yes, MWO was way more fun with 3025 -3039 era tech

This event was fun, really fun. It just proved to me how boring and stale the current Meta is. Then again i like playing a different mech almost every drop.

I generally do better in "crap" mechs. Not sure why that is. I almost never play jenners. For this event, I was almost godlike in them. I have to believe it's NOT because I'm actually godlike in them...

Only thing I like IS for is missiles I have realizes, MRM or LRM boats for destroying potoatoes, and that is it.

Otherwise Clan is better in every way and I cant imagine why Id ever take my old dusty Banshee over my Executioner, or any IS medium over my linebacker, or any IS heavy over my HBR.
