Did they ever comment again about possible engine change after they first did a few years ago?

They are not going to change until MW5 is launched. That is now delayed. No change for the foreseeable future.

Nope. Game will run on crapengine 3 until they either take the servers down, the whales all buy mw5, or you wait until 2025 because by then someone else will have mod-ed mw5 into mwo v2. This year's mech con we get a tentative release date for 2019's mw5 release. My money is on "Soon." So about 5-6 years from now mwo will get a new engine.

Changing the engine is an enormous amount of work and usually not economical even for most games with growing player numbers.
I would not count on any engine change just because PGI gets some experience with unreal. Changing the engine would still be very expensive, but hope dies last of cause.

Cryengine will be updated when community agrees to rebuy all mechs from scratch to pay for porting everything over. A.K.A. MWO2:REVIVAL

Because it costs money. That's why. It's not like they'd be swapping over a few things. They pretty much have to recreate MWO in another engine. So if they had any intention of doing that. They would have to find a way to cut the cost of doing so down. Best way to do that is use MW5 as a base for that. And even then you have to wonder if it would be worth the cost.

If you're going to try to change engines you might as well build a MWO 2 from scratch. Even very large games never attempt that as an "upgrade." F'ing *WoW* never changed its engine.

Imagine how glacially slow its been to create MWO in all of its basic, ultra limited, half baked arena shooter glory, then have them basically redo all of it for the sake of graphics.

Would you like to buy a mech pak?

To be fair, in my experience redoing something takes much less effort than it took the first time, especially if you had to learn lots of new stuff.

For example i'm currently working on a game too and because of all this new stuff to learn and mistakes made it took our team more than 3 years to get it near release. If we would redo the game now with our existing backend, tools, assets and experience, we would probably be finished within a year while still having improved on quality. And i think PGI would be capable to do this with MWO too after finished with MW5.

But a year of work still means an investment of several million dollars, that's why i don't think it would be smart for PGI to put that amount of money into a niche game with stagnating user count.

But who knows what PGI may have up their sleeves... Posted Image

They have definitely not retained the same staff over the course of this period. And if they did, wow, they have not gotten any faster at development at all. Like its almost an achievement in how painfully slow they have maintained new content development.

Theres literally things baked into the game like LBX ammo switching that they dont know how to do because the guy who wrote the code left.

I was being dismissive because PGI would still be unable to move past what they have always done, and would only benefit from a graphic and performance boost, but yea thanks now we know gooder engines dont look gooder, thanks.

I don't know I like the irony of the first thing I hear when I log back in after a crash is "Achieved with Cryengine"
