I know what you are saying but my k/d is twice that of the MLX. if you are getting shot in the Cougar you are playing it wrong. It's a fire support mech, not a frontliner. The damage potential is significantly higher in the cougar. It comes down to pilot preferences. I don't like facetanking in a squishy mech which tends to be what the MLX ends up doing, and without the speed to be a good hit and run mech, it can get wrecked. HP doesn't matter when everyone underestimates the cougar.
The difference between 97 and 81 KPH when being shot isn't going to make a mech miss that much. If you can hit a cougar, you can hit an adder (which also doesnt have great hitboxes. Better but not great).

Neg. They can do decent if under the right circumstances but its not. TDK, Locust, WLF, PIR, ACH, Flea, Kitfox, Adder and even the cougar are all better. and most of them are much less circumstantial. I would understand placing it above the cougar but the cougar can be so much more nasty.
The only 'Mech in that list that is actually better is the Wolfhound.

Feel free to explain that. Personally, my data and ingame experience is the exact opposite by a significantly large factor. You might be confused about personal preference vs data... Either way your experience could be different and nothing i can say could change that. Iv'e stated my piece and experiences. Feel free to do/say as you wish. See you on the battlefield. o7

I'll oblige with my thoughts and experiences, which go beyond QP and into organized play:
LCT can't take a hit at all, can no longer stutter-step, and relies on the enemy being terrible more than its own merits. All of its competent weapons payloads require it to get within a high-risk range near the target and it doesn't have the combination of alpha and DPS to defend itself against the MLX, PIR, or even the ACH. If it still had its quirks it would be much more competitive.
PIR has the same problem as the LCT, but has enough firepower and is fast enough that it has a strong role as a gank 'Mech. But the MLX will out-tank it while offering comparable DPS. PIR is in the top 3 and people go back and forth over whether the PIR is stronger.
ACH is out-DPS'd and out-tanked by the MLX in MG configurations because the MLX has more hitpoints, better hit-boxes, and several different ways in which its MGs offer higher DPS; the ACH has a small niche on big maps using ERLL with those MGs to harass at distances that are difficult to anticipate and respond to, but otherwise the MLX is stronger. Laser configurations for both are pretty lackluster.
KFX is too big and too slow to be a Light. Easy to see, easy to shoot, and not a whole lot of armor for the staring contest Clan lasers enforce. Similar to the Locust, it relies more on the enemy being inattentive and mistakenly prioritizing bigger targets.
ADR, same as KFX, though I will submit that I would never 1v1 a fresh ERPPC Adder in a MLX. That's asking for trouble. But an ERPPC ADR is overly prone to having its team shot out from under it.
FLE, too early to tell, but it's definitely stronger than the Locust; I'd say the FLE-17 imay be in the running to displace something in the top 3, but it's more of a direct counter to the PIR (as in, it seems to reliably kill the PIR 1v1, not that it does the same thing as the PIR) rather than a straight upgrade. Thus far, it's been a brilliant performer and I wish the stats page would show my FLE-17(S) stats because I bet they are ridiculous.
Now, if I were just going by my personal preferences? Locust would be god amongst 'Mechs with the number of drops I've made in one.

You think this annoys me or another light pilot? Well, posting here and boasting that you needed a crutch...conveys a feeling of helplessness.
Let me help you. It is older but still legit. Now, point your finger at the right location, Nightie, will you?
Funny stuff, this gave me a laugh. I'm primarily a light pilot but also enjoy streaking the *** outta lights.
One shotting Fleas in my streakcrow always gives me a chuckle.

So you are optimizing for the best shots and a coordinated unit. That is rarely the scene. The only reason the PIR isn't taken over the MLX is because it isn't allowed. De-arm the MLX and its worthless and its arms ar much larger, easier to hit and slower then the ACH. The Kitfox isn't too big and slow to be a light. You aren't supposed to take it capping. The biggest issue with Comp Play is that they optimize for such a minor part of the game, the builds hardly work in SoloQ, Considering its difficult to find games in any mode other then SoloQ during my times on, I optimize for that. Calling a light that can't compete in SoloQ a top 3 light is rediculous. its one of the more situational mechs because it's mediocre at everything. Give me any of those lights and ill make her sing much better then I could ever make a MLX which is where I drew my analysis. Id love to meet the "elites" that come up with meta that is so highly flawed.

You can run a MG MLX in solo. They work fine for a light mech. And if you are going to play solo then you don't have to worry about weight so you could just take a bigger mech that does what a Cougar does but with more everything. Downside being that you lose a lot of what makes the Cougar do well in solo, which is LPT (low priority target).

You are talking about a 25 toner, if it didn't lose something when seriously hit it would be broken. Now, even if the weaponry is mainly in the arms it is always better to lose said arm than its connected side torso, which causes the loss of the weapons anyway AND loss of heat dissipation and mobility. Shield arms are great, even better if weapons are on the torso and not the arm but even if not, better alive than dead...
TLDR: Locust would be improved if instead of those tiny "arms" it has it had MLX's arms attached. It would survive longer even if at reduced fire-power.

Light mechs - aren't those the things that go 160 kph, turn faster than the network update rate, and ankle hump you so you cannot even depress your guns to shoot them?
Why shouldn't they be vulnerable to one, otherwise bad, weapon system?
