I would love to have an option to have override on by default. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten my head ventilated because I was riding the heat line and just went a smidge over 100%, thinking override was on, surprise, it wasn't. Then all I can do is watch as my enemy lines up the kill blow.

I have the exact opposite issue. I hit override early on and then forget about it, and when my heat goes over 100% I hit it again, and shut down as the result.

like many others, I don't like the current heat mechanism. doesn't reflect tabletop-rules and fluff and so on..

that being said, IN THE CURRENT SITUATION, I'd very much like a toggle or setting for that; pressing "o" in 98 of 100 games right at the start; and I'm cursing in those 2 others on behalf of me forgetting to do it.

can't be too hard to code.. outside pgi, that is.

Add me to the list...Override toggle as an option in the menu. Let's be Pro-Choice on this topic.

Why do I have to pull the trigger? Can't everything I look at die, and everything that looks at me die, and LRMs that target me part like the ocean for the glory that is I?

Just press O

A separate "turn the override on" key would be so much better than the current on/off toggle.

This is silly. Two words = Trigger Discipline

If you seriously have to press 'O' even before you drop, maybe rethink your build. Or, rethink how you use your build.

Those two things are not mutually exclusive. It's not that pressing O means we don't still need trigger discipline. Hence why it's QoL and not laziness. No matter how good my trigger discipline gets, pressing O is still better than not pressing it.

No.

Its an issue of when the line does get pushed, ensuring that the choice of taking minor internal damage vs several mechs getting free shots at you for seconds is not automatically made for you by a shutdown. I think most anyone being reasonable can add up the damage of one vs the other and choose to pick the lesser of the evils.

If you want to use 'Trigger discipline' to describe it then you need to acknowledge that many firearms do not have a safety other than the one ascertaining that its being gripped by someone who has the intention of shooting. Because the last thing you want in some situations is needing to be able to pull the trigger to fire but realizing its the one time you forgot to turn off the safety.

Its getting stopped by a safety that many players do not want thats the issue, not play styles. If I had to manually turn off auto arm centering every match I'd complain about that too, its a glaring quality of life issue, not of player issue.

Hmm, actually in this case laziness is not adding QoL options to set override on by default. MWO in general needs QoL and NPE ****, which is the basis of many games that try to get a large playerbase but here it's mostly ignored (only recently we got ability to save/load loadouts).

I'm not against giving you guys the ability to have override on by default.

One word of caution though, the "minor damage" is more severe than you think. I'm not entirely sure how the damage calculations work, but I have carefully observed how much damage people are taking when they go over the line with override. It's not uncommon to lose 5% health to your internal structure. That may not sound like much, but In a larger mech like a Highlander, that translates to about 50 damage. Inflicting 2 Heavy Gauss shots on your internal structure is a pretty big deal. Even if only a little of that ticks to your CT you've just blown about 1/3 of your CT internals.

Maybe you don't do this, but I see an awful lot of guys push their override for no good reason that I can tell. And they often wind up paying for it later in the match.

And can we get rid of the warning? Or maybe just a smaller one? Hate that it takes up almost half my view screen.

It's less about trigger discipline and more about maximizing your heat bar. It's the difference between being able to alpha twice in a row or three. That's a 50% increase in your outgoing damage with no repercussions if you have override on and slam the coolant key right after your third shot.

Just as a reminder, back in the day when Virtual World Entertainment we could only play in Battletech Pods you had to enter a four digit code to override the shutdown, and the code changed randomly every time.

Just pressing O to override is about as easy as it gets without actually directly saying '**** the lore'.

So no, an override toggle is not a valuable addition to the game. If anything we should go back to the four digit code

and of course a meaningful heat scale too while we're at it!

Okay then, then let me actually say it "**** THE LORE". Especially when used for petty arguments against improving the game and possibly even the lore. If you can even call a game mechanic in an old game lore any more than that would just mean that they later altered the mechs for easier access to a function of a mech because in this game which is also battletech, it only takes the press of one button.

And this is about the easiest and laziest attempt at denying people to actually introduce a QoL change to something already in the game.

And **** lore purists and their attempt to sabotage any innovation to battletech games just because it hurts their fragile nostalgia. That'll make any game developers think twice about ever wanting to make future battletech games. Good job.
