Just as a reminder, back in the day when Virtual World Entertainment we could only play in Battletech Pods you had to enter a four digit code to override the shutdown, and the code changed randomly every time.

Just pressing O to override is about as easy as it gets without actually directly saying '**** the lore'.

So no, an override toggle is not a valuable addition to the game. If anything we should go back to the four digit code

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

No Mechwarrior game, ever, has required anything beyond the press of a key to override.

Okay then, then let me actually say it "**** THE LORE". Especially when used for petty arguments against improving the game and possibly even the lore. If you can even call a game mechanic in an old game lore any more than that would just mean that they later altered the mechs for easier access to a function of a mech because in this game which is also battletech, it only takes the press of one button.

And this is about the easiest and laziest attempt at denying people to actually introduce a QoL change to something already in the game.

And **** lore purists and their attempt to sabotage any innovation to battletech games just because it hurts their fragile nostalgia. That'll make any game developers think twice about ever wanting to make future battletech games. Good job.

If you don't care about lore then why on earth are you playing a Battletech game? The entire premise is based on a board game that spawned a lot of bad writing that spawned a lot of poorly designed computer games.

It's nothing but ******* lore!

Every other FPS is that way ->
None of them care about lore, go enjoy yourself

If you care so much about lore then why are you playing one with so little of it? It's an online shooter, gameplay is king and will always be more important in this genre. That is why no online shooters have lore, because it just gets in the way and limits what you can do to make the game fun.

You want lore, play single player games where it's not at odds with the gameplay.

Also, according to your logic, it is lore. Because only needing to push one button has been the case in multiple battletech games, including this one. So actually, it was the battlepods that contradicted lore.

Im pretty sure in 'lore' if I walked my mech off of a height like those in Rubelite Oasis or the rafter in HPG, I would die as my mech crushed its self. (for good reason).

Or how about in lore water actually makes your mech, you know, slow down.

Or how about in lore, clans and IS mechs arent running around (together) in 12 vs 12 groups in a basic arena shooter and standing inside laser tag grids to win games.

I grew up on battletech lore but its never been translated into the MWO games accurately, and certainly has been in a steady state of decline since MW2: Mercenaries. Its the height of silliness to use it as a basis for MWO gameplay.

Exactly. It's an online shooter, so it plays like one and so lore takes the back seat.

So for lore, just play the new Battletech game or wait for MW5. All the previous Mechwarrior games has also done good as they were singleplayer games which suits the lore well.

Also remember not to confuse rules with lore or lore that is only there to justify the rules. As long as the history of the Inner Sphere and the faction is preserved, the lore is there and it is battletech. Don't let a franchise die just because you get nostalgic about the rules and refuse them to innovate and modernize.

Just pondering.

Since tt came first, doesn't that mean mechanics came first? Then all the lore or "bad writing" as you call it?

Hmm

Why do I have to pull the trigger? Can't everything I look at die, and everything that looks at me die, and LRMs that target me part like the ocean for the glory that is I?

Just press O

There is a line between QoL and Laziness Posted Image

New Proposal: All mechs will now be launched from their dropships in a powered-down state. You must hit the 'P' key to begin playing.

Can you imagine the fury of the community if something this inane and stupid were to be released in a patch? Oh wait that's the Clan Laser Nerf PTS never mind.

The Arm Lock Toggle and Throttle Decay options exist for a reason. Some people enjoy playing with certain controls; others prefer unnecessary and extraneous things simplified. It's not about laziness; it's about the 99% of matches when you hit 'O' before your mech hits the ground—and the 1% where you forget, alpha the lead mech of an enemy push on instinct and hit 101% heat, then die in a blaze of gunfire because PGI can't implement a simple QoL feature for six freaking years.

I know you guys are trying to be cute, but I genuinely don't understand why anyone would oppose something that would make the game objectively better for many people.

*shrug*
