Obviously, duration can be debated... but let's say... every week (or whatever duration)... there's a theme of the week.

And during that theme, only certain maps are offered.

For example, this week, we may have... "Hell's Week"

And you get Rubelite, Terra Therma, Frozen City, and um.... well, I can't think of a ruined map at the moment...

The point is, you get the idea.

Ice Week for example... would only get Alpine, Frozen City, Polar, + whatever

now, hear me out...

So there will be a little more consistency in terms of drop preparation, cause your selection is more limited. It will keep some maps fresh since maps would be out of rotation from time to time (so we may actually see terra therma once in a while)

Also, it involves the QP players in a sort of meta-lore... "This week warriors, we are participating in the drop of Steiner Homeworld. We call it, "Urban week"

And you are like, o cool, I am sorta part of it.

"Hell Week" would still have people voting for either Frozen or Rubellite most of the time, because Mordor is a terrible map and changing the voting pool will not change that. If you want maps like that to get picked more, ask PGI to make them less terrible. Trying to force terribleness on people is not a good solution, just fix the terribleness.

I could see it. It's a neat idea.

I do think that players want more personal choice and voting already restricts that choice. I can see where this would restrict those choices even more to certain maps in certain weeks leading to cranky players skipping play in that week altogether.

Some maps are less popular at large for specific reasons. We already have people that would rather YOLO, suicide, or DC to avoid playing on that map as it is. I'd rather see the rarer maps come up more often too, but they need more tweaking to make them more popular, not forcing players to play them.

I actually miss old Terra. I know all the action outside of conquest usually ended up in the middle, but the flanks were way shorter.

Even better, no map or mode selection, random, maybe we wouldn't have to play the same 3-4 maps- mode over and over and over and over and..............................................

Most of PGI's map reworks have certainly ended badly...

Thought that this might have happened for Faction Play with certain planets having a theme.

Why?
Would the absolute best map in the world change the game play from 'Rush to the middle' or 'Nascar'?

Fact is simple.

There are 2 very different camps of people. 1 likes to have choice, to have deterministic outlook over what they can control. 1 on the other hand, are like you, that just want things to be completely beyond their control.

Those 2 don't mix. Right now, PGI lean too heavily toward one side, but shifting it toward the other won't help either. You will be happy, your camp will be happy. But now, you get the other 50% of the population entirely pissed off.

My solution is simply provide a middle ground to both worlds. Camp 1 have some control because they can choose. Camp 2 will win a little because camp 1 can't dictate what's on the rotation that week.

Maybe nobody wins entirely, but nobody loses 100% either. I call that a win/win solution.

The problem with this is that is would be like:

Hell week - nobody plays, matchmaking struggles to find 24 players / Cold week, MM finds matches instantly because lots of people are playing..

Unpopular maps are unpopular for a reason, and playing the same map over and over for a day, let alone a week, would get old fast..

A lot of games I play have "themes" as secondary missions that can and do earn a lot of in-game money and "stuff." Like events that run for a month or so.

I don't think a "forced" theme would ever work. Heck, playing HPG six times in a row, even with voting with a 7,8 and 9x multiplier against it, didn't help my morale.... Or, the endless, HPG, Solaris city, HPG, Solaris city sequences that have run 12 games in a row recently have limited my play even further. Enough.

Random maps and themed events are about all we could do to "balance" the population. Right now, there is no balance.

I agree and really with that they would consider offering up some of the old ones from time to time. Really miss the brawls on old Frozen City and when I really started playing regularly three years ago it was very popular.

Heck we could even use razenwings idea a bit if there was sort of a theme...I'd be all in for throwback map week.

Think your idea has some merit. As much as I would be unhappy for the frequency of Escort or Incursion being increased, and perhaps more Polar, think I could live with themes or events as you describe if it broke up the monotony. If it also meant that maps like Bog and Mining were available to play more frequently without having to choose one or the other.

As well this particular explanation sort of swayed my original knee gut response of self determination which is why I am commenting here instead of to your original post. If there were themes or events that were kind of fun/interesting/challenging that took away my multiplier farming for a bit, I'd be Ok with that as a compromise as I wouldn't want to give up voting entirely.
Very well put and good idea.
