All that said, I think Light mechs are fun and challenging. I think Lights in BATTLETECH are also fun and challenging. I just don't think they are balanced well enough against the bigger mechs.

Yup

Last patch gave 2-5 nerfs to most of the Piranhas. Apparently that didn't widen the gap between the best bigger mechs and the light mechs enough for some people.

Funny thing, I do way more damage and produce way more kills with my Locust and Flea mechs, than I do with my Pirahna's.

And there I was thinking it was eerily quiet on the "PIR OP plz nerf"-frontier... Posted Image

and I guess maybe in lore (lol I don't know any BT lore) lights are not really any threat to anything larger than them.

Even lore doesn't support that, really. The Piranha's original TT writeup especially calls it out as being really unpleasant to pretty much anything it can get behind, and this in the game with back-loaded armor.

Piranhas are game-breakingly OP, especially the MG ones -- I mean come on, twelve ballistic hardpoints? Nothing that small should be that fast and that tanky and have that much DPS. If you get two of them leg-humping you your match is over.

It's gotten to the point, even in the high-tier solo queue, that if I see the other team has Piranhas and we don't, I know we're going to lose, period. Add in lag and rubber-banding and Piranhas are effectively unkillable. Add skill point boosts and they're even worse. Even without quirks of any kind, PGI needs to nerf them in the worst possible way... if not remove them from the game entirely.

There’s just never enough nerfs for you people is there?
The thing just gut kicked in the gut, and it’s still not enough?

Please, as a follow potato, stop asking for nerfs to the mechs you can’t play. There will be a time when you manage to find a niche that you enjoy, and it will be taken from you because some other noob or spud (or Chris or Paul) decides that which you enjoy is “OP” and they will yell and scream until it is hit with the nerf bat, until it too is rendered into dross like so many other mechs and playstyles have been over the years. For the sake of all those not yet nerfed into oblivion, please, just stop.

15-16 energy hard points on a light mech should be unheard of

End of argument

But it’s OK on other classes which have the tonnage to use even bigger and better weapons? Why?

I don’t think the game will let you do a full 16, but a Nova can certain have 16 hard points (I think I tried to do a AMS, 4 MG, and 12 lasers and it gave me an invalid build warning saying I had too many weapons..anyway the Nova certain has the potential.)

Not going to get into a lore or BT argument. I’m just saying that if PGI is allowing a zillion hardpoints on one class I have no problem letting other classes have it as long as there is reasonable balance. The PIR -as it is presented in this game- has lots of drawbacks in exchange for all that firepower, and I am just fine with that.

Setting aside that TT doesn't really have hardpoints until you start talking about ships, Peter Steiner's Jihad-era Fafnir that was the base for the Wrath had 16, or 17 if you count the ECM. The Bane and Stone Rhino have variants with 14-15 weapons as well if that's close enough.

and the point is..?

it could have 59 hardpoints.. it is STILL 20tons of wet-paper-mech with bad agility (on a 20t), with a really crappy field of view (and that IS important, double if you think it's not). I gladly repeat myself:
buy one, drive one. it's cheap, and it's fun.
grass is always greener - until you get oneshotted by somebody with aim ;)

It does allow 16, but AMS counts as a weapon, so you have to pull that off.

You might want to recount. The Piranha only has 15 hardpoints in some of its variants unless you're counting AMS for some reason.

Nova, Gargoyle, Direwolf can equip 16 non-AMS weapons configurations. Nova has a 15 energy hardpoint configuration like the Piranha 2. Gargoyle can equip 16 energy weapons (or 15+1 missile). Direwolf can equip 15 energy hardpoints (+ ballistic to get to 16).

Just beneath that there are a ton of clan configurations with 12-14 weapon hardpoints.

There are plenty of clan mechs that aren't hurting for hardpoints. The Piranha isn't really unique in that regard.

I bought 3 Piranha's yesterday and Im thrilled. Never liked light mechs, never played them much.

But the Piranha with all that hardpoints, it's speed, agility and it's hitboxes is different.

It seems to be a bit too much tbh. Kinda feels like op.

Go play in Group vs players that can aim. Your opinion will likely change quickly.

I’d be fine if all of those were deleted from the game, together with the entire 20-25 tonnage range.
