I'd almost say the same except i've never bought the fish with mc or c-bills. i haven't played in months but the last time I ran an 'OP' clan light I used the trial ach and it felt like god mode after years of expecting death with the xl st loss. I still don't play clan lights much except for when I'm really bored or want to run a whatever build. I still prefer my is light death traps.

Yes my Machinegun Cheetah does destroy mechs way more than my Pirahna's...simply because I can JJ and gun. Makes another way to dodge being hit also can sneak up on your prey easier.

Piranah in general isint an op light mech. BUT the micro pulse boat piranah needs to get a nerf bat on how quickly it can delete sections of armor

If you remove 20-25t mechs from the game, then 30t will be your No1 nemesis. With all lights deleted, you will suffer from Assassins, Vulcans, Vipers, Cicadas, Arctic Wolves (all 40t mechs are awesome IMO :} ). With these deleted there will be "OP, plz nerf" Phoenix Hawks, Uziels (6xMPL UZL-6P <3 ), Wolverine WVR-7D (yeah, with MASC), kiting Fridges, Shadow Cats, and suddenly scary Black Lanners and Linebackers.

My issue with the 20-25 tonners is not that they are so OP. I dislike their scaling - with proper volumetric scaling, a humanoid 20 ton mech should be as tall as the shoulder of something like the Pheonix Hawk. I dislike their movement - they are still 20 ton machines, which is like a medium WWII tank, but completely lack invertia, have infinite friction with the ground so they can accelerate to 150 km/h in 1 second, and somehow pull a near instant 90 degrees turn while keeping straight up, completely defying all centrifugal effects. This is not a 20 ton mech - it is an ironman suit.
It is not that light mechs kill me in particular (I get killed by all classes) or that I play LRM boats (none) or assults (very few above 80 tons). I just don’t like their look, feel, and playstyle. My opinion, YMMV.

Nova, Gargoyle can easily have 16 hardpoints and they've been around for ages, yet nobody cryed how OP they are ...
A DireWolf can have 20 hardpoints, with like 10 times the tonnage for weapons compared to the Piranha.

And if you think 16 is a lot, apparently you've never played original Battletech or any previous MW games.

The problem with Light mechs isn't their size or firepower , it's their acceleration/deceleration which takes just milliseconds. Can you imagine your going over 140kph and you break to stop and you stop in less then a second, That would probably hurt your neck or other parts of your body like your eyes. Another thing is the game's physics , We can't have a lightmech like a flea/locust/piranha stop a 100 ton mech with it's "Tiny" mass.

The problem here is that lights (some of them) have too much poking speed, if they just reduce the acceleration/deceleration speed it would make a big difference and make it so tiny mechs are more fragile to collision damage. I remember in MW4 if you had a medium/heavy mech jumpjet land on a flea you would totally damage the flea if not destroying it.

Next thing to learn is to play PIR-3 which only has one energy slot less than the PIR-2 but still got structure quirks and more agility.

Whoops i actually intended to mean the 3 not the 2.

Right now my stats on the PIR i own on my ALT all the W/L are around 1.5

PIR-1 K/D: 3.13
PIR-3 K/D: 2.42
Cipher K/D: 2.32

Welp, if we go by the most recent patch, PGI apparently concluded the things were overperforming, since after all, they did just nerf em. They found them to be “too reliable”. Gotta love PGI’s “data”.

So the reliability problems are fixed then?

I find shooting them before they get into range enough most times.

I mean they gotta get pretty close wouldn't ya say.

Except the 5 med lasor versions of course

Apparently they needed to be less reliable. I suspect all that this nerfing will do is increase the frequency of Fleas and decrease the number of Piranhas running around. Guess we’ll see a “reliability” nerf to the the Fleas in a few months. The circle of life around here.

The reliable part of the notes was something I found odd. It mentions glass cannon which is true, but the other thing I always found with the mech is that it was very situational which means less than reliable. Sure you can get good matches in it but it was also completely possible to get low scores for numerous common reasons. Even other lights like a Wolfhound are more reliable, might not get as many high scores but gets a lot less low scores. And some of the better bigger mechs are definitely more reliable in qp, a Mad Cat MKII B can average enough damage that if a light does it in a couple of matches it gets called op.

That's because they don't know how to balance their own game, or even whose opinions to listen to. The developers quite literally said that a bunch of people came up to them during Mech Conn and complained about the Piranha, and that was the straw that broke the camel's back and caused them to nerf the 'Mech. The thing is that as mentioned above and numerous times, the Piranha is an all or nothing 'Mech. As you pointed out, that's the antithesis of reliable. The mind boggles. I suppose 'Mech Dads win out again, and by win I of course mean they will just be farmed by some other variant now because let's face it, there should be a T6 division for those pilchards.

Great. There goes the Wolfhound.
Nice job. ;)

As to the MKII. If Chris’s “data” has not yet illustrated to him that the MKII is over performing ( or merely a top performer in its class, or an overly reliable performer, or whatever the hell criteria he uses to decide a mech needs a good wack with the nerf bat) by now, it never will. MKII (B and Deathstrike mostly) has been thee most prominant and dominant mech in my games since the thing dropped and it still is. And yet, I hope he doesn’t nerf it, and instead will continue the recent trend of giving other assaults some quirk love (I’d like the Kodiaks, all of them but especially the non-3s to get some love!).

One thing that aggravates the problem is that most of the time in solo-QP the MM doesn't separate Tiers so you have T1s/T2s in PIRs FLEs, and stealth COMs and LCTs matched against low-Tier/new players much of the time.

Another factor is the nerf to the lock-on mechanic because of LRM spam which negatively affects Streaks as a counter.

Roughly half the matches in solo-QP I played yesterday were carried by Lights, with PIRs and stealth FLEs/LCTs/COMs also being prevalent in that regard. I saw Lights kill over half a team a number of times.

I'm thinking I might take a break from MWO as I'm stuck playing mostly assaults and heavies due to FPS issues making it so I can't play lights (or even faster mediums) effectively.

I bought 3 Piranha's yesterday and Im thrilled. Never liked light mechs, never played them much.

But the Piranha with all that hardpoints, it's speed, agility and it's hitboxes is different.

It seems to be a bit too much tbh. Kinda feels like op.

This is 100% not derogatory; you are currently at the bottom 45% of the player base. At that level people dont know how to deal with the PIR let alone hit it reliably. I do encourage you to use the mech and as you climb in the ranks you'll notice that it will get harder and harder to pilot well.

And when that happens, I do hope you make another PIR post.
