Conquest, Assault and Escort are pretty much dinnered modes - and domination has this largely pointless secondary objectives, the most interesting non-standard mode is Incursion and it dosnt come up very often/is rarely voted up sufficiently unless the alternative is Escort. Why PGI catches so much flak to be honest, pay model and poorly chosen words concerning their community aside, they seem to prefer avoiding problems instead of fixing or removing stuff that dosnt work. (Sadly I think the poor point payout on CONQ is a unfortunate side effect of base rushes back in the day, where 2-3 lights could rush a enemy base and win before anyone turned around to stop them.)

Which is the point really....
We have Conquest the only mission type where the mission objective can actually bring victory outside an enemy team wipe a non-trivial amount of the time. And it also happens to be apparently one of teh most reviled games mode because it gets in the way of "mech smash"... somethign somethgin something thinking mans shoote....LOL
The rest of the missions? lets see:
Skirmish? TeamDeathmatch Classic
Incursion? Team Deathmatch with a base that will never be really used until one team is wiped out after the one light on your team paying attention gets a power cell
Domination? Team death match in a piss stain that shrinks even the smallest map into a tiny circle because sometime assault pilots can't find thier *** with both hands let alone the enemy so make it as easy as possible, wouldn't want movement and maneuver to matter.
Escort? Team Death match with one team seriously handicapped. But seriously this one hardly matters because the attacking team can lose if they stand in front of their own VIP too long let alone you can't see where you VIP plans to go making defending it a joke.
Assault? Team Deathmatch with tiny bases that will be ignored and are largely pointless anyway.

FP is where objectives matter.

I have rarely, very rarely, benefited from someone "playing the objective".
Where one does benefit is people moving with the team.
As you are in a PB, you have ECM... ECM is FAR more valuable in match score when sticking with the team and playing a proper support role than running around playing an objective.
So you can 'role play' and stick with the team as a 'support mech' and earn more.
Simple really.

Role warfare.
It was pitched and ignored.
A successful light only does damage. (Erroroneously) not actual light roles. Harrassing, scouting, directing indirect fire.
Don't get me started about touted information warfare.

Still, at least the objective modes we have occasionally force people to use different parts of the map.

This.
Spawn points in conquest are such that two are always easy to cap from the get-go, with the idea of forcing a big fight around theta. Don't handicap your team by "ree-ing" around the map standing in squares. There are no respawns in mwo (unless fp), which means removing your opponent's pieces from the board is always the best strategy.

Every mech fights, if you pilot a light your mission is to scout, screen, skirmish and flank.
If you only go for caps, you arent fighting. In other words you are useless.
So better dont complain that you didnt got any points for being useless.
when i light i usually cap 2 bases myself or team gets 3 caps (whichever happens first), and then join the battle. of course sometimes you get into a back capping fight with another light and the rest of the team didnt cap a thing, so you can join the team and loose to cap or cap and buy some time. i usually go for option #3, wait near your last cap for the back capping light and kill him. you usually loose in this case but you get a solo kill.
capping isnt a level one priority but if ignored it can bite you in the booty. i kind of think non-light pilots should be banned from voting conquest because sometimes us lights just want to kill things.

its what makes living legends great. noobs respawn, pros stay alive so they can buy blood asps. it also keeps potatoes out of assault mechs which has its issues in mwo.
