When I must win I roll out the 6spl lct 1e. Most the time i'm just lazy in my other mechs and builds but when the other 89 just arn't doing it for me I go to the death bug.

The only build anyone should ever be using is a C-UAC20 Arctic Cheetah.

Well, for me a "tryhard" build is not a build that would let me occasionally produce obscene match scores, but rather a build that would let me consistently perform well regardless of the map, game mode, and factors that are outside of my control (such as team composition on both sides). Right now MCII-B with 2xUAC10+2xUAC5 fits that profile better than any other mech I own.

MAD-IIC 78 Laser vomit:
https://mwo.smurfy-n...ddabc959d99cc09

Deathstrike:
https://mwo.smurfy-n...ffba7c74717c7ec
Got a K/D of 16.5 in season 14 with that build and it is still > 10 after 93 matches.
That this account has "Deathstrike" in its name is pure coincidence Posted Image

Worst rubbish build I ever played was a quad-NARC Timber and some SPL for self-defence :D

LRM80 Supernova. 37th place in assaults matchscore last season, 51st in global. Embrace LRM Renaissance because it wont last long.

So we are defining "try hard" mech as a mech with the best build (as stated in the OP....and whate is a best build? Highest effective PPFLD, one that uses all tonnage and crit slots)? Or a mech that gets you the best chance at a win? Or the mech that gets you the best personal stats team be damned?

Whatever. I play group queue I take what is available and how knows what that might be in a given evening. But to answer the question as I think it was intended: 'a mech that gets you a win or allows you to carry with a higher frequency than others in your totally subjective "i love this thing" sort of way', well then, I gotta go with an IV-4 because even a potatoish player like me can do well with it.

i dont think its neccisary to use all the crit slots. though a good build should have as few unexploited resources as possible. if you have more than 4 or 5 you should probibly do something about it. surplus tonnage can usually be dumped into the engine. you can get rid of slots with upgrades. like i found one of my meta builds had enough slots for ferro, so i did that and bumped my engine up to the next rating. another thing you can do if you can downgrade your engine without loosing heat sinks enough to add additional heat sinks to get your heat numbers in a better place. heat sinks being rather bulky is a great way to waste slots. then again if going to extreme lengths to get rid of extra slots makes your build worse you probibly shouldnt do it.

For me a tryhard build is a build that you know is bad but you just need it to work for reasons. :P

Brawler Scorch usually produces good results, as does a gauss Huntsman.

Ebon Jaguar (Laser Vomit)
Warhammer (Laser Vomit)
Mauler (LRM Boat)
Sleipnir (Heavy Gauss)
Mad Cat II-B (Dakka)
Annihilator (Dakka)
Fafnir (LBX10)

I've been playing purely meta this season (outside of a couple games in lights and mediums for the recent event). HBR-VI lasvomit only so far (will use my MAD2C and Gaussvomit Deathstrike as well). Was curious to see what it would do to my stats to stay out of the lighter classes (lights especially, been trying to get gud but....) and focus on meta heavy/assault clan mechs. So far a KDR of 4.73, W/L 2.42 and 373 AMS in 40 games. Nearly 600 pts dmg and 1.8 kills/match. If you compare that to my previous 5 seasons you'll see what a difference it makes.

The sad part is, as much as it has improved my scores and contribution to team wins, it gets kinda dull. I actually took an MRM Tempest out for a couple games just to derp around a little bit. I'm not sure I'll be able to stay the course and play meta only the rest of the month.

My best mech is the Piranha. I tend not to do as well when playing heavier mechs.

Ah yes, score padding, a righteous endeavour. /s

Four AC2 Rifleman with two Med. Lasers. I click the fire-button fast enough to match the speed of an Ultra Autocannon without the jamming.
