Additionally, The Commonwealth has some great mech manufacturers, most notably Defiance Industries (boo) and Coventry Metal Works (huzzah). Smaller ones that exist in 3049 include Bowie Industries, Norse-Storm Technologies Inc, Trellshire Heavy Industries, and Tharhes Industries. This page is pretty useful.

The Lyran Commonwealth has assembly lines making four of the confirmed mechs in MWO.

Atlas (Defiance Industries on Hesperus II)
  • Defiance was the only one producing the Atlas when they started the line in 3012, so the Lyran Commonwealth has better access to them than other successors
  • Note that the AS7-D (the standard model) is made by Defiance, while the AS7-K (the founders version) is made by Yori Mech Works in the evil Draconis Combine)
Stalker (Trellshire Industries on Twycross)
  • Twycross and most of Trellshire's factories get captured by the Clans, but they're still ours in 3049!
Hunchback (Coventry Metal Works on Coventry, Norse-Storm on Loxley)
  • Admittedly, the Hunchback in produced just about everywhere, but the specific model apparently in MWO is made on Coventry
Commando (Coventry Metal Works on Coventry)
  • Produced for over 600 years. Perhaps its somewhat successful.

well, in the 'modern' era the Hunchback is produced by Norse-Storm on Loxley... the stealth armor / gauss rifle and duel MML 9 variants are both excellent. also, Griffins still guard the throne on Tharkad... there is a great illustration of it on the cover of Handbook: House Steiner.

honestly, we may not have the Zeus, but we still made out extremely well in terms of faction-preferred mechs. the Atlas is a staple of the LCAF, as is the Commando. the Hunchie and Stalker are Lyran favs as well.

i'm rather looking forward to using all the above. B)

From a gameplay perspective I do not see much need for releasing the Zeus mech next as the Awesome or Stalker models offer all a Zeus could possibly offer, even if the latter is regarded as looking much nicer than the other aforementioned mech designs. I would surely prefer a jump capable assault mech instead (such as the Victor, the Highlander or the Marauder II) to spice up MWO gameplay.

Once IS mechs, that support all different gameplay approaches/strategies, have been implemented in MWO I would also like to see the Zeus being made available, but until then, personally, I would pick mechs with significantly different characteristics and allowing for new mech combat styles over those that are emotionally linked to a faction and seen as iconic for members of a specific House.

I managed to take the AWS and turn it into a zeus with a LRM15, ER PPC and ERLL and upgraded the engine to a bigger XL for zeus speed. ;)

Yeah, that's pretty much the -9S config. Not a bad machine, especially when we'll have to wait until 3060 to get the absolutely AMAZING -9T.

Even though they're legally allowed to use that stuff, the original art isn't likely to show up again in new products (as opposed to the Reseen art, which will). It's a decision by CGL not to rely on out-of-house art assets anymore so as to avoid another Unseen fiasco in the future. That's also why several mechs from TRO:3055 got a redesign in the reprint of that book.
The mechs and their stats, of course, have always been fair game, the unseen thing is all about art.

Zeus, as well as other mechs, will introduce later. This should be clear about it.

Oh yes how I love the Zeus. Such a strong fighter and fairly quick for its size.

You'll have to get used to Marys and Snakes in Zeus' and Commandos, as well as Elsies and Liaos in Dragons and such. There are no faction-exclusive 'Mechs in MWO.

Correct there are no faction specific mechs, but there are mechs that are more predominant dependent on which house you are in. Which would mean they should be cheaper/more expensive to fix or modify depending on what mech and house you are in. This makes salvage a bit more relevant.

Hmm, the Atlas is fairly common through out the inner sphere but not heaviely produced.
The main Line Steiner Assault Mech is indeed the Zeus and / or the maybe the Banshee.
And according to INN the moderniced and updated Banshee has recently been announced by Defiance Industries.

I agree that the Zeus should be the Steiner 'totem' mech, but don't forget the Hauptmann and the Fafnir. Both solid Steiner designs that extroll the Steiner tactic of "Walking a big gun close enough to where you can't miss". The Fafnir even more so. And Nondi Steiner seemed to be quite fond of the Hauptmann I remember, before Peter erased her cockpit from existence with...that's right gents, the Fafnir.

The Fafnir is post clan invasion though... and the Hauptmann too I believe. So then I say it falls on the Zeus or Banshee.

The Hauptmann and all other IS omni 'mechs are post clan invasion adaptions of clan omni 'mech technology and designs. It'll be nice to get my hands on the Sunder when I get the chance.

Where the F... is my Timber Wolf(MadCat)!? Is a better question, since the clan invasion did start in August of 3049 after all...

I hope the designers give an option for pre-clan battles once they introduce the clans. Still want my BattleMaster/Stinger/Wasp.
