Admittedly, there is some pretty goofy looking art too, which tends to come from certain, specific artists.

I wish this game were still being made and people still played it. My brother got Mech Commander for Christmas one year and it came with a free Battletech booster pack. he gave the cards to me, but I was too young to really know how to play. Such a shame. I still have a few of the cards from that booster pack somewhere.

I have fond memories of my Morgan Kell assassination deck. It revolved around kitting out an epic mech with massive damage output and then dropping Morgan Kell on it to make runs at the enemy deck that couldn't be blocked.
It wasn't very reliable, but when it worked it was a thing of beauty.

Its funny how time can change the way you look at a game and come back into it. I remember back in 1996 when this game was released, every weekend i would spend my entire allowance on BT CCG cards.. not to play.. but because of the artwork lol. Being that young it was hard to understand the concept of tapping and blocking. Fast forward nineteen years and I find myself playing this game with my friends more so than any other board game we have in our collection. Still have thousands of these cards and a ton of prebuilt faction decks. Is a ton of fun to play with more than two people.. always looking to play with someone new or bring the game to their attention
Cheers

It was my second favorite CCG behind MTG. It had some interesting mechanics but my friends and I would rather play a game of actual Battletech instead

This was what tipped me over to the genre and the lore back in the day... loved to run my wolf deck, and still have my Widowmaker sitting somewhere around!

I kind of wish that Fantasy Flight can pick this up, improve it with better graphics, and make it into a LCG.
I am using the cards now, not for playing, but as a reward for my kids when they get good results from studies. They will draw the cards and collect them in their own personal card folders (aka Mechbays), and we always have a good time chatting about the Mechs they have collected.
"Wow, I got a MadCat Prime!"
"Death from above, death from above, death from above.," draw from the deck.... "Yeeeaaahhhh!!!"
"Daddy, I wish I can get a Daishi one day!"
Haha.
