Perhaps something you think will run your playstyle better, compensate for your current mech's downsides or offer a different playstyle you wanted to give a shot. The choice there is entirely yours.

I honestly don't think I HAVE a playstyle. I'm trying to play again and I'm so goddamn frustrated with everything I cant' stand it. My reticle just seems to bounce all over the place, I cant' land hits at all. I really, REALLY want to do laser vomit but I can't last a single hit. Now I remember why all I did last time was LRMs. This is not a dig at the game, I think I'm just that bad.

Now tell me, how will the grind look like if you discover that the tank you wanted to play is not it after all and the one that would suit you better is locked on a completely different tech tree?

Well that's why I do a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT of research before I commit to anything. And honestly I enjoy the gameplay so much that it never feels like I wasted my time all that much. Granted, DID feel that way after grinding up the American Heavy tanks, but then immediately bounced into another line and was all optimistic and ready for some new tanks to play.

WoT is a steaming pile of grind with a toxic to the extreme piss poor community full of 12 year old militarias getting a hard on their vile fantasy of historic barrel comparison.

I agree on the community in many cases, although I guess I'm just lucky with who I fell in with socially. There's a loooooooooooot of ******** in there, ngl.

this thread, just wow. What the eff are you on about summoners? I love my summoners. Summoners are great, they summon blue lightning bolts onto the enemy like no other. They are the ferraris among cadillacs.

Honestly it's because I think they're so damn cool but I cant' get them to work like at all. They always seem under-gunned even though I know they can carry more weight than say a Linebacker or a Huntsman (yes yes yes Huntsman has more but they come with way fewer DHS so...). I'm trying like hell to make them work but also like this game is just driving me up a wall so I'm just kind of mad in general. Why on EARTH can't I hit anything???!?!?!?!!!

Sounds to me like you need to dial down the mouse sensitivity if your reticle is so wild

I'm trying but it still just jitters all over the place. I'm starting to think I can't run this game on my laptop.

Compared to the other mods available and ignored by WG, XVM was really not that bad. My favourite ones to watch were laser pointer, red ball for arty, autoaim with target lead at ammo racks and arty mode for non-arty. Streamers would openely use them but it would be ignored. Winning.

Precisely why I don't play World of Tanks anymore, and for some years now. I do however, still and prefer to play World of Warships and invest on the ships there, where the 3D models of each ship alone is a work of art worth collecting, play it or not. Yeah no mods other than cosmetic, namely to satisfy the large audience of anime fans there. I remember they removed and made illegal an aim assist mod in the game. Same Wargaming company but the divisions that run each game have different attitudes and philosophies towards game management. Other than their balancing decisions, I do have a deep respect towards the studio at St. Petersburg, which is a major seat of the Russian Navy, past and present. These people do love ships and naval history, they show this passion with the game.

I'd pin retention more on the gameplay + WWII settings. Personally I do not care about the millions of others--WoT's grind is not for me and that's that.

Its well known in the industry, the more you have invested in the game, both time and money spent, the more you are going to stick rooted to it, in some cases despite how bad the game has become. That perfectly describes WoT.

MWO allows you to buy everything, and when you can easily hand out your credit card, what's the challenge in that? In WoT and WoWS, there are things that you cannot buy, and must be earned through effort and success, so when you finally attain them, it gives a remarkable sense of accomplishment and that item itself becomes a badge of honor. In WoT for instance, there is a resistance among players against players who would say, just buy a Tier 8 Premium, so these players can jump tiers directly, even if their skill and experience doesn't meet up with that tier. That's the reason why these games do not have Tier 10 premiums. WoWs have Tier 9 premiums but these are acquired by exchanging a huge amount of in-game XP.

Pay to win and grind is a downside of WoT. But it feels good polished.

MWO occasionally nerf fun. It feels generally cheaper.

Everyone does, but it may take a while to find the one(s) you're better suited for.

Are you perchance trying to play the game from third person view? The reticle is drawn based on LOS from your cockpit, which leads it to jump all over the place in 3PV (and makes 3PV pretty useless except for some limited attempts to peek above ridges).

I'm actually not, I figured out waaaaaaaaaaaaaay long ago that 3rd person in MWO is really not helpful. I really wish they'd fix it so that it's actually useful and not a piece of crap. The angle is weird and you can't zoom out far enough, let alone what it does to your aim.

No I'm in-cockpit and I still fly all over the place. Even lasers I fire can miss completely.

What's your mouse DPI and what did you set sensitivity, acceleration and smoothing to in game options?

I don't know, standard? Which one of those should I screw with to help? I tried moving sensitivity around a bit, but it's still bad. I went down to 0.6 and it was still to bad, I went to 0.2 and it was way too sluggish but still couldnt' keep it in place. One big thing I think is that every time I move the mouse it feels like it over-compensates, and just zips off the target. It's a huge problem. I can't hit the same guy, let alone the same component. it feels like my mech is drunk.

Uncheck the "enhance pointer precision" option in your windows mouse settings, then in the in-game options turn mouse acceleration down to zero (also recommended to do the same with smoothing).
The recommended sensitivity is around 0.2, although it will vary depending on your mouse .I play around 0.35 IIRC.

Don't know really, I had not a problem with the reticule at all, with a few gaming rigs i build over the course of MWO's life, and windows versions
Unplug the mous and put it back in?
What's a bit interesting is that it only does so in MWO I'm guessing?
Ingame acceleration and mouse smoothing should also be off

3rd person view is hampered so we can't peek around corners I guess

Maybe, sounds more like a build in windows feature is on like snap to button or mous smoothing/acceleration .

3PV is horrible because it was intentionally made so to pacify the vast rivers of male nerd rage tears that ensued when PGI announced they were planning to do it.

It could have been used as the basis for the currently non-existent information warfare pillar of this game. But, alas. <shrugs>

Thanks, I'm going to play around with this some then. I think i'd enjoy this game a lot more if I could, you know, hit things.

I did some reading and that's what I heard, yeah. Apparently that's why they have the little camera drones too, to "justify" it. Which is ********, because theoretically you could just aim that drone anywhere, on any axis, to give you a competent 3rd person view camera.

Also, HOLY **** I totally forgot how much people were pissy about 3rd person cameras. Wow. I'm reading some old threads now and I will never understand why someone got that mad over it.
