Streaks are the only really legitimate counter to lights who game after game get the most kills. They do this by backstabbing with ECM, stealth and speed. I'm not against them doing this, I'm all for the dynamic, though I 'also' think that they ought to have a competitive counter to their tactics. We shouldn't see Alpha Lance with the most number of kills most of the time, it ought to be spread among the different weights.
I say this as someone who plays streak boats and has done so for about 5 years. The lock on window for fast mechs is difficult to achieve when moving [I usually stand still to get it] already and almost impossible if someone has ECM before and the first nerf a while back made it so you had to maintain a fairly narrow window. Maybe... I learned and adapted to it, though now the impossible locking of a nerfed
Few people play streak boats because their damage potential is low compared to weight, though as a light counter, they are one of the few things that work. They don't get much support, in fact they get a LOT of hate for how useless they are. They're not, in their role, though fairly poor outside of it. Lights are already quite powerful if used well, to further reduce streaks to counter them is only giving them more advantage when they already have the most kills.
Please roll back the nerfing of streaks, add in some 'BETTER' counters to ECM, such as improved lock on times when you have BAP or similar [it's so long and the window is now tiny it's VERY difficult, did nobody even try this!!]
Streaks Only Real Counter To Op Lights.

Increase rewards for doing things that aren't killing and damage-dealing. Assault hunters should be in the minority of light mechs. Their primary role should be support. There are plenty of good support lights, but pilots don't get much out of piloting them, even if they do their job really well. A support Kit Fox with ECM and 3AMS just plain won't get as much as a 6SPLas Locust if both pilots are equally skilled at what they do. That's a problem, considering that the Kit Fox is usually going to be more help to the team overall.

Lights obviously don't have the most kills or have the most damage, since the latter especially is the most influential stat for average match score, and on the Jarl's list, the average match score for light play has to be normalized at a higher rate to be equitable in comparison to the heavier weight classes (all three of which are deliberately normalized downwards in comparison).
I get the rest of your point, but when you open it up with a falsehood, it's hard for people to get behind your reasoning and support your point of view.

The thing about lights is you just gotta shoot them and some weapons are better than others.
Streaks are good but so are er/ppcs, guass/heavy guass, ac20/10/5/2 and other pinpoint front loaded weapons, if you can land a hit.
The duration on regular lasers make them harder to use against lights
Getting the lead when aiming right is the trick, sometimes two or more mech lengths of lead is required.
But when you get the lead right and score a hit with dual say guass or ppc that light mech will get deleted, legged or at the very least cut in half .
You need to stay cool to follow a small fast moving object and lead a shot.
Thou most people panic, mouse....I mean light mech and run for the closest chair
Easiest way is to let the light walk into your crosshair.
That means you have to focus on your cross hair, and when a light crosses the hairs of your crosshair. SHOOT
Their are tricks such as using reverse and counter rotation to get the light in your gun sight.
Its worth your learning as few things are as satisfying as deleting a light mech that tried to back stab you.

This is absolutely wrong. While they ARE a counter, the best counter is PPFLD, in the form of Gauss rifles, Autocannons, and in some cases PPC fire. Lights are lightly armored, hitting them with a single big hit can cripple them and put them down.
Another great counter is LBX autocannons. I know more than one pilot who uses a 4x LBX10 Fafnir, and basically one shots light mechs constantly.
Yes, you need to know how to aim to make these weapons work. But since they're great at more than just killing lights, thats a good trade off.
