I have been interested in starting Faction Warfare. After scouring the forum on building drop decks, why you shouldn't solo drop, and just join a unit already. I noticed there is no one stop shop or thread a new player can go to that would get them up and running. There isn't even a manual on how to succeed in the different game types. Every thread I have read has been written by someone that either passionately loves FW or hates it. Surely someone has written a complete thread on the basics, and why isn't that thread pinned?

Ok, thanks for that but there is not much how-to info in that thread. What someone needs to do. Is write a formal thread.
. How to build a drop deck
. How to start a match
. Why units win
. Comms
. Tactics
All in a pinned thread here in this sub forum

I agree it's inadequate.

I'm sure I've guides to FP by players before, but unfortunately, I don't have the links for them.

Keep in mind that "finding a group to drop with" is not the same as "joining a unit". Hop on by HHOD's teamspeak at ts3.hhod.com:7345 sometime - we can run you through some of the basic stuff and help you with your builds. (and if you want some proper training, you're always welcome to join with us)

. How to build a drop deck
There's no magic to it: you select four mechs up to a given tonnage limit. The specific mechs and builds will depend on what map and mode you're dropping onto, for example people take colder builds to Terra Therma while using hotter on Frozen City. Generally players tend to have around 12-20 different mechs set up to use in FP

Quote

. How to start a match
"Fight now". If you're in a group, then the group leader (with the crown, sometimes known as "hat") has to select Invasion or Scouting as the mode, all members of the group have to change their status to Ready (note: browsing store, inventory or mechlab unreadies you) and then the group leader has to launch your group by clicking the button above the list of group members.

Quote

. Why units win
Teamwork, coordinating their builds and agreeing to focus on the same tactics.

Quote

. Comms
Same as in the rest of the game.

Quote

. Tactics
Depend on the map, mode and opposition. If you're not in a group, do not expect pugs to follow any tactics whatsoever.

My guess from about 2000 miles away is that I wasn´t high on somebody´s priority list to do such a charitable thing to their own customers .

Yeah, there are plenty of streamer videos where the points asked by Joe have been explained.
It's just difficult to find them again on the internetz, so why is PGI not making a sticky thread with well explained streamer's videos about faction play. Or why is not Mr NGNTV doing such videos? Isn't he even employed by PGI? So why is he not doing FP videos?

I guess I could re-write and compile my thread as a step-by-step guide.

Because Mr NGNTV rarely, if ever, play FP.

You are much better of by watching https://www.twitch.tv/yondutheravager , he is very good FP streamer, does both clan and IS. Do not be fooled by his tier ranking, he almost never play QP.

Both Ash and Xavier stream also in respectively the Oceanic and Western? US timezones. Both also focus on FP content.

Well, who cares if he is a QP player? He is employed by PGI and is actively streaming this game, probably because it is part of his job. Ok, eventhough I don't know his job description at all, I don't wanna make kind of false-accusations. I just think that it would be good if a kind player who can describe things good would do some tutorials about faction play...

And about Yondu:
I know him (and his pro and cons) but he is not one of the streamers I would have in mind to do something like tutorial videos about faction play Posted Image

There are lot of various guides to help you in gettig good in fw. But the best move from your side: to join mercs career. And then join any winning side of any given conflict.

I semi-started to do one of my own and someone that plays a lot of Faction Warfare should.

I do not have a great PC and someone with a better one could do a better job. I used to have a fair amount of videos but I deleted them.

But here is/was my idea and I think it is 100% doable. Just record a lot of games. Then find moments when players are doing things right as a team, make a clip of it and explain why they are moving like they are moving (Conga line).

And show when players are doing the wrong thing. And compare them using audio or text. If I could almost do it, then 100 pluses players should really be able to do it.

This is how you take down a gate on this map. And this is how you do not do it.

And a better version could be added when possible. Find 24 players, put them into a match and then record it as a spectator.

And/or have them show what to do. "Now, team A will show you where to move on this map".

I did this with Madden NFL and I'm sure a lot of players could do it for MWO.

Stop saying what should be done and do it yourself.

There use to be a power point on the net made by MS on how to play Faction Warfare. They gave it out to anyone who asked, and it has everything you are looking for in it such as basic strats, drop decks, and so on.

Sadly though I lost the url to it and I am sure it is very out of date.

This is the only tutorial url I can find but its not specific to FW.

Here is something from 2015 that I also had found in my folder of urls.

I've put together a Few Suggestion. Might help you with some of the more abstract stuff.
